Substance Environments 3ds Max 2022 VRay crash

Using 3ds Max 2022 with Substance 2.4.4, VRay 5.1.2.

When trying to use the Substance Environments with VRay, it crashes randomly when you change settings of the Substance. Doesn't matter if it is put into the Environment Map slot of the Environment and Effects dialog, or in a VRay dome light. Seems a little more stable if not using the GPU, but at some point changing the settings doesn't change anything, and shortly after it'll crash. If changing the settings during interactive rendering, it'll crash pretty quick. Lasts a little longer if I stop the interactive rendering, change a setting, then restart the rendering. But that only goes so far and crashes soon as well.

Is there a better more stable method one should use to be able to use these environments?

Placing a Substance Environment (using Substance 2 node in 3ds Max 2022) crashes max instantly, both with Arnold and Corona (and without rendering, so render engine probably doesn't matter)
