I am new to 3D sampler. Previoulsy I used photoshop filter to produce normal maps and bump maps for textures I create and use in 3D Studio Max / Vray archtectural renderings. Now that capabilit is gone from pshop and I am trying to learn how to do it in 3D sampler.
I have a photo of a wood beam. 2163px H x 142px W. I want to generate normal map form it. When I bring it into 3D sampler regardless of choosing which "Image Creation Template" I use, the output results are alway a square image. IOW the normal map that is auto generated is a square and I need it to be 2163px x 142px to match my diffuse wood beam photo/texture map.
I looked thru tutorials and docs but I cannot seem to find how to achieve that.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Hi,
Setting custom pixel size isn't available in 3D Sampler.
But you can work with non-square textures, like you can see on this screenshot you can set the pixel ratio above the 2D view (just click on the lock to unlock the "keep ratio" and set it as you wish). And make it match in 3D view setting the tilling.
This will not be exactly the size that you were looking for but this will help you getting close to it.
And make sure when exporting that it is set correctly in the export window:

Thanks for your reply Lory. I will try what you sugges. It seems like an unfortunate lack of this basic capabily, maybe it will be included in furture releases?
Creating diffuse mapsmfrom photos and having the normal map match the diffuse map is a pretty common workflow in 3D cg. Esp in arch viz.

Indeed! This is a convenient feature and I'll share it with the development team.
Happy holidays!

Hi Lory,
I hope you may still be folowing this thread. Is the new release of 3D Sampler capable of what I describe above in this thread?
"I have a photo of a wood beam. 2163px H x 142px W. I want to generate normal map form it. Thanks in advance for any follow up!
