** I HAVE UPDATED THIS POST WITH A PHOTO SHOWING THE COMPARISON ! *****

*** ----> So I've been testing EXPORTS from Adobe 3D Modeler.

I exported a simple combo of squares, round objects and exported them from Substance Modeler

as an .OBJ file. I bring them into Stager, and no matter what I do, the object look so so bad.  The lighting is bad, the material applied is bad.

So I remember watching somebody export a .FBX format from Modeler.... so I try that

and BINGO.... the surface of the object in Stager is amazing.... the materials look so good too !

........ so what is the problem ? .... is .OBJ a bad way to export from Modeler ?

and... WHY doesn't Adobe have a video on exporting different formats and WHICH format is the best

for exports from Modeler into Stager ? .... Adobe really needs wake up on little things like this.

So much wasted time trying to figure out things that they ( paid employees ) should be on and addressing in ways of education via website, or YouTube tutorials.

Hi @Animation Guy!

It looks like the model might have been exported from Modeler with a high poly count. Does this error occur when exporting at a lower setting?

We are not able to diagnose working files directly on the forum website. Can you email the Stager scene file and log file that you are seeing this issue in to Substance3d-bugs@adobe.com so we can investigate. If the file is under 20 MB you can attach it directly to the email.  If it's larger, you can send via a file transfer link like Creative Cloud assets, Dropbox, We Share, One Drive, Google Drive, or similar.

Hello,

So I just completed my test.  The original file was exported to .ojb format and it had a high count as you surmised.

It was 733,606 polygon count.  I then just now dropped the poly count to 114,625, exported it from Modeler and then imported it into Stager... and looked at the model, and also rotated it. It looks just as bad.

That said ****.... when exporting from Modeler, what is THE BEST format to export with ?  FBX seems to be amazing.

** So to continue my test - I then shut everything down, started Modeler again, and used my test model.  I now exported it as .GLTF format ( which has the higher poly count of 733,606 ) I then loaded this in stager, and it looks awaesome !

So it seems .OBJ is NOT the best option to ever be exporting for use in Stager.  Oh and please fix Modeler, it has NO option to open recent, and it has NO WARNING when you close a project to save changes !  Where Stager has this alert ! save or not to save. This needs to be fixed in the next version.
