Stager and previs for photographers

Hello there! I'm an animator in the video games industry and photographer for fun. I recently found stager while trying to previs some of my photography ideas in 3d. However, there is a bit of a disconnect between how popular photography lights and modifiers work and how I can replicate those effects in Stager. If, for example, I could bring a 5' octobox into a scene with a 1000w bulb and 2 x 1stop baffled diffusion, I would have a very good idea of how the light is behving in 3d and the real world. Would it be possible to have a feature like this in the furture, or create those lights/assets in Substance 3D? I'm a bit of a noob. Any help/thoughts appreciated.

Eric

Hi @ericrwebb! Stager has some environment lights that simulate various studio lighting scenarios such as 3 point lighting and front key rear panels. There are also some other fun light environments such as canopus ground and wood studios windows that add in colored lights and realistic reflections. The Adobe Substance 3D asset website has some more environment lighting too.

Thanks a lot for your replies! I've been looking at the light volumes and trying to wrap my head around them. Is there a way to know the relative size of the light coming from the volume to the subject?

Hello, you can try the adobe substance assets lights. There is a lot of lights who could be useful. Or you can test lights in stager and setup your scene. If you need help to do this you can ask me, and i'll be happy to help.
