My team and I are using After Effects with Team Projects and since the latest update (v. 16.1.1), almost every time we open our main project, this error shows up: After Effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! {no current context}.
Every compositions inside the project seems to be broken, as our layers are either missing or misplaced. The animations are all messed up also.
For example, this composition should look like this:
But instead, it looks like this:
Now, the only way we found to overcome this problem is to close and open back the project, but it doesn't work very often and it's kind of random as of when it actually works.
If you're running with the latest version of Premiere, and the Team Project contains both AE and Premiere elements, then you would need to stick with compatible versions of AE and Premiere.
We think we may have identified the problem, which appears to be an issue with how AE 16.1 loads Team Projects that contain certain PSD files. I've DM'ed you instructions about how to set a debug flag that will hopefully disable the optimization that's causing the issue. Please let me know if it works for you.

I have not seen that problem before. It's especially odd that closing and re-opening the project would produce different results. I will reach out via DM to see if we can gather any additional data about what might be triggering the issue.

I have the exact same problem. Team project that's worked fine forever will no longer open in AE, it immediately crashes. It'll still open in Premiere but not in After Effects (and seeing as the comps are the most important part, I'm in big trouble). Got my boss and clients asking when they can see the new videos. I really hope you guys have got a fix?
The biggest problem I have is that now I tried to open in the latest AE, when I try to open it in the last version it says it won't because it's been opened in a newer version now, so I'm totally screwed.

I'm sorry to hear you are also running into problems. The original issue didn't involve a crash, though, so this might be something different. If possible, can you DM me your crash logs?
As a temporary workaround, you should be able to roll back to a previous version of the Team Project, before it was edited in a newer version of AE:
1. In the version of AE that was working, do not open the Team Project directly. Instead, using the default AE project, or any standalone AE project, open the Media Browser and find the Team Project you want to roll back.
2. Click on the "Auto-Saves" tab for that Team Project in the Media Browser, and use the slider on the right to find an auto-save that was not opened in the new version of AE.
3. With that older auto-save in view, right click on the Team Project name in the left side of the Media Browser and choose "Make auto-save (xxx) the latest...". When you next open the Team Project, it should be restored to that earlier state that does not contain any incompatible data.

I will give this a go Peter. I will also send the latest crash log I can find on my machine, along with a couple of screenshots of what happens during the crash. I really appreciate you getting back to me, I'm in a major panic!

Hey Peter, is there a way I can do this without it replacing the Team Project I'm having a problem with. And should I attempt this within a newly created Team Project, or just a regular project? (The Team Project is a mixture of AE and Premiere, so don't want that to get broken up).

We're working on a fix as well.

Can you please share this fix with the rest of us?
My team is experiencing hundreds upon hundreds of verification errors upon upgrading to the latest After Effects version. Usually we can just click through the few dozen errors when we open it up, but sometimes it crashes AE entirely.
Thank you.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing this as well. A fix will be in the next AE maintenance release, coming soon. In the meantime, I will DM you instructions (which involve setting debug flags).

Hi Peter
Please send me the fix too, or share here?
The latest update has made no difference to my struggle with this issue.
Everytime i open AE, from dock, applications or project file, i get variations of the internal verification error.
Many thanks,

The original question was about this error being reported in Team Projects. To the best of my knowledge, the Team Projects bug in question was fixed in AE 16.1.2 (the latest version). It sounds like you are seeing this error message with a standalone project file (.aep), though. Is that the case? If so, there's going to be a different underlying cause, possibly a damaged .aep file, and I suggest trying the After Effects forum, or contacting Adobe Tech Support directly.

Thanks for the reply, Peter.
I may have explained that badly and chosen the wrong thread to post. The issue is still about the same error though.
My issue is NOT .aep related. I get the very same After Effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! {no current context}
error when i open AE, regardless of how i open it.
If i load a new script, error.
If i change audio output settings, error...
Any suggestions for fix are appreciated.
Thanks a bunch!

I'm afraid I don't know After Effects that deeply, beyond the parts that integrate with Team Projects. I'm asking around, though, and I'll let you know if I get any good suggestions.
Do you have a preference set to make AE open the last project when it launches? If so, there may be a problem with that specific project file. One way to work around that would be to reset your AE preferences by holding down Command+Option+Shift when launching AE (Ctrl+Option+Shift on Windows): Setting preferences in After Effects. You could also try launching with Caps Lock enabled, in case the error is being triggered by rendering.

i know i am 2 years late on this subject but i have the exact same problem with AE and it started today late in the day. I am using the latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud on all programs but the difference with the previous users is that i am not using teams or Premiere. So far i have not found any problems with my files or my compositions but i get this notification every time i open an existing project. My projects have psd, ai and videos. I use an iMac 2017 27" with a Radeon Pro 580 8 GB and 24GB memory

Hi,
since the issue you're encountering is not specific to a 'team project', I'd suggest you re-post it in the After Effects community - After Effects Community
Best,
Udo

Hi David,
Have you used any script here?
If yes, can you share it here so that we can have a look.

I just got this issue today and it looks like it was happening to me because it was trying to load animation effects/presets window at launch. I made a different window active, saved and closed, and then it opened without that error message.
