Team Projects - Multiple Issues - Auto Save, Share Changes, Project Loading

New Here ,
May 19, 2022 May 19, 2022

Hey gang! I am managing an (admittedly humongous) team project with three editors. I frequently encounter (in no particular order) the problems below. I am honestly unsure, if I am encountering bugs or simply limitations of what Team Projects can handle. I would appreciate any thoughts/advice/troubleshooting ideas. Thanks in advance!

Problem (s):

1) Project loading time varies between 5 and 35 minutes with no discernible pattern. Most often it chokes on "Loading Team Project asset list decription" but variously on other steps as well.

2) Auto Saving often fails, prompting me to close and reopen the project in order to save my progress. In one case this has led to data loss because when it occurs sharing or getting changes is also impossible., so I have to manually copy my changes to a local project.

3) Sharing / receiving changes frequently fails, even when auto saving works. In these cases, the program may hang or crash when attempting either operation. Most often one of the steps simply never completes. When it works, getting changes sometimes takes 10-15 minutes.

4) Conflict resolution frequently fails, sometimes leads to crashing, and, even when not choosing to make a copy, sometimes creates huge numbers of duplicate media and nested sequences (which are not easily consolidated, as opposed to media files).

About the project: The project is extremely large and might, admittedly, be too big for Team Projects. We have some 650 hours of footage with 14.5k assets and several hundred timelines. All footage has proxies attached. Online media files are on my system, the other editors are using proxies only.

Thoughts: Especially the combination of issues 1 and 2 can easily cut my working days in half - when I have to reopen a proejct 3 to 4 times in order to get it to save my work and each time if have to laod the project it takes 30 minutes or more that adds up quickly.

There is no discernible pattern to the issues - just this morning everything workd fine for me (load times were long but manageable at 15ish minutes). Now I've been trying to edit for almost two hours and cannot get the project to function.

The other editors are complaining of similar issues, although it doesn't seem to be as bad for them.

Troubleshooting steps taken: Cleared Cache, cleared prefs, disabled import workspace from projects on load, reinstalled and updated PP, disabled third party plugins. Cannot split up the project at this point (for organizational reasons).

Hi, Sorry for your troubles with Team Projects, it seems you may be running into a mixed bag of limitations and bugs, but it's difficult to diagnose without having a closer look at your project - I will follow up with you via E-mail.

In general, though Team Projects has gotten better with handling large Project, we're working on further improvements in that area. We usually recommend to split up a large Team Project into Linked Team Projects (Creating a linked Team Project) that contain only the relevant assets for a specific segments that are being worked on.
The overall size (# of assets) and the number of sequences (particular complex sequences with heavy usage of color correction or warp stabilizer) can have a negative performance impact as we have to scan the entire project for changes when a new piece of media comes online.

Best,
Udo
