Adobe Premiere 2024 (All Versions)
Mac Studio 2023 Running Sonoma 14.4.1
To Reproduce this issue, you must be in a Team Project with multiple users. Once there are a few sequences in the project, either by clicking on another users sequence or just being in the project long enough, these "Update/Copy Loops" will make themselves apprent.
This issue has gone from kind of annoying but workable to unbearable
So our team uses Team Projects. We have been using them since the feature/setup first debuted as we are a multi person team who often work on the same projects together. We would each work on a sequence of our own, and share our changes, and then combine things into another sequence as we progressed or copy clips from one sequence user is in into another users sequence. Premiere Team Projects used to have no problems with this. Nowadays though, there is this issue where if you have someone elses sequence open, they or you can no longer edit into it or do anything with it. That was fine at first, we got used to it by duplicating a sequence and renaming it, but now whenever it happens, Premiere Team Projects just get stuck in these endless death loops of "Updating" and duplicating the same sequence over and over the moment you or someone else opens a sequence someone else is in. It is incredibly annoying and really hampers efficiency. Sometimes these death loops start happening, even when nobody has anyone elses sequence open. You can open up a project, hit the update button, and then all the sudden you're stuck updating over and over again as sequences start duplicating themselves like crazy over in the Media Window/Workspace. This has become awful! It's excruciating! Team Projects never used to have this issue. I dont know why it has become such a huge problem recently, but it never used to be this bad. Would love it if this stopped happening so frequently.

Hi @MilesHigh007,
Sorry for your troubles, there are several edge cases that let you get into a continous duplication loop.
But most of the time you can get out of it, when all but one collaborator closes the project and the collaborator then searches and deletes any erroneously duplicated sequence and then 'Publishes' changes. The duplicates usually have "Copy ([user name] 04/09/24)" appended to the sequence name. Other collaborator should do the same in case they're still seeing the duplication message after re-opeing and updating the project.
I'll also follow up via email.
Best,
Udo

Ugh- I keep having the same annoying team project death loop! Closing the project and deleting duplicates does not help. It just enters the loop 20 minutes later. And we are not even opening any of the same sequences or media. Never had this issue v23. v24.4.1 on Mac Pro Ventura13.6.6

Hi @ds_aliengirl,
are all collaborators on the same version (v24.4.1)?
Besides resolving the duplicated sequences on each collaborators machine, you could create a copy of the project via 'File > Save As...', then remove the erroneous duplications and invite the collaborators.
Best,
Udo

@Udo Pawlik yeah, that's what I ended up doing a week ago and also 10 days before that, and so on. But it's pretty disruptive and time-consuming to create new copies of the project constantly. I only have one other collaborator who is using the same version (v24.4.1). Just about ready to throw in the towel with team projects at this point. Unless you have a better fix?

So, is team project functionality simply broken? it's pretty messed up that this version was released in such a dismal state.

@ds_aliengirl
Sorry for your troubles. It would be most important to find out how you got int o the conflict state. The issue could be that we don't properly lock down a sequence, or some automated task like transcription, a third party plugin can be a culprit, etc.
Can you invite me to the Team Project the next time it is in that constant duplication state?
Best,
Udo

@Udo_Pawlik - There will not be another confilct state as I've abandoned the team project. If team projects are ever improved enough to be a professional editing tool, I'll try again. But honestly, I'm not too hopeful.

We have also almost entirely abandonded the Team Projects for Productions as this Death Looping issue (as we call it) in the Team Projects has become so bad.

My team has also been using Team Projects from the beginning and this issue has us jumping ship. There was no real issue with Team Projects until the 2024 update and now it has hindered productivity to an almost unworkable level. We stayed in older builds for as long as we could, but certain files weren't readable in that version, so we had to slowly start moving projects over to 2024, hoping that by the time we had to fully convert, these issues would have been resolved. This is a massive upset.

We started having this happen much more frequently. We were staying with Premiere 23 for a variety of reasons, but now with our group wide update to 2024, we've been having sequences that don't show folks are editing, other sequences that show somebody is editing when they are not, and constant duplication loops. Sure, creating a copy of the Team Project and reinviting collaborators seems to fix it for a bit, but then we start getting duplicated seuqnces again.
Just today, when one of my editors opened up a fresh copy of the project they had never been in, Premiere immediately asked them to publish changes. It was several sequnces they had never opened? Clearly some medadata is being updated or something is falsely causing Premiere to believe certain client machines or Adobe users are modifying seuqnces and assets they are not. Sometimes when we publish changes, there are vast lists of clips that are publishing yet were untouched- think camera originals, audio, music in sequences the editor did not touch. We're not using any plugins or anything beyond a base install of Premiere.

My understanding (after comparing notes with other editors) is that team projects are only usable for SMALL projects. There is some kind of low threshold for the number of files and sequences that team projects can handle, and once you surpass that, the death loop will never stop. For this reason, I've abandoned using team projects entirely. Larger/ full length films are exactly the type of scenarious that can benefit from the use of team projects, but they are precisely the type of projects that are not supported.
