Team Projects: New BETA Feature Announcement

Title: Progressive Project Loading for Premiere Pro in Team Projects

Date: August 2021

Now available in the Beta builds of Premiere Pro.

Problem Statement and Intent

Large Team Projects can take a long time to load. Editors want to get to creating as soon as possible. To help deliver on that need we are introducing Progressive Project Loading for Team Projects in Premiere Pro. In our testing we have seen up to 20X reduction in the time it takes to get to the EDIT Workspace with our new solution.

The Solution

Previously, the EDIT Workspace would not display itself until ALL ASSETS in the Project had been loaded (or attempted to be loaded in the case of media that required relinking). Based on the size of the project this can take a long time. A key improvement with our new solution is to display the EDIT Workspace almost immediately. Instead of waiting for all assets to load, we do a quick pass to collect just the list of all assets (no loading performed yet) so we can populate the Project Panel. After this initial list creation, the EDIT Workspace appears and editing can begin.

During this time, Team Projects prioritizes items to load in the background. This is controlled by the user based on which BINs are open in the Project Panel. Those assets and sequences in an OPEN BIN are moved to the front of the queue for loading into the project. This is a dynamic operation and as the user opens additional BINS those items will also be prioritized.

After all prioritized items are loaded, all non-prioritized items will then load in the background.

Next Steps

We have additional plans to improve the project loading experience. For instance, we are now working on a method to prioritize sequences (and their dependencies) during project load. This expands the BIN-based prioritization model and will result in faster sequence loading times. Stay tuned for additional announcements coming soon.

Your Feedback Is Important To Us

We would really like to hear what you think about this feature. How does it work for you and your teams? Does it provide time savings for you? Has it introduced any problems for your workflows? What additional improvements and optimizations would you like to see? Your input helps drive our priorities so we can continue to improve our solutions and deliver the best experience for your creative needs.

Thank you from the entire Team Projects Team!

Michael,

Thanks for adding this in, and for posting the information about it. Long load times are of course why so many went to Productions mode. And getting this working more speedily TP mode is certainly a useful thing!
