Should I get an associates degree or a bachelors degree in graphic design?

The bachelors degree may give you more standing out of the gate as it indicates more studies and work went into it than an associates degree. It may make the difference in moving up from a jr. graphic designer to a sr. graphic designer more quickly as you prove yourself in the workplace. A solid portfolio though will be the most helpful, regardless of degree.

If cost is a factor look for accredited online programs that you can take advantage of to get the general credits out of the way, or a local community college program. Make sure your credits are transferable so that if you choose to finish your degree at a university you won't have to retake courses.

Nancy, reading through some of the requirements for those positions, had me thinking of the myriad of posts you see on sites like Quora and Reddit asking things like 'What program should I use to become a Graphic Designer?  Photoshop or Illustrator?'   I am absolutely going to point people to those employment adds in future, and inject a strong dose of reality into their aspirations.
