Around one in five people in the West suffer from gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD), or acid reflux, where acid from the stomach escapes into the oesophagus – the pipe that carries food from the mouth – causing a burning sensation.
Scientists have discovered a new link between common acid reflux medications and dementia. A recent study found that people who took drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for more than 4.4 years had a 33% higher risk of cognitive decline and dementia. In addition, long-term use has been linked in previous studies to a higher risk of stroke, bone fractures and chronic kidney disease.
My mom always said "fight fire with fire." Stir 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar into a glass of water. Drink it before meals.
For occasional acid reflux (heart burn), most doctors recommend chewable TUMS Antacid tablets containing Calcium Carbonate USP (1000 Mg) which also promotes healthy bones & teeth. If you're taking other medications, always check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

Also helps if after you eat meals, you don't lie down and then fall sleep. Digest sitting up or do an activity. Don't eat right before you go to bed. You need some time to digest properly. Also I find that if you wear something like underwear or pants that are too tight for your waist, that also promotes acid reflux.

That's why it is a good idea to have the main meal in the middle part of the day, and not in the early evening, as a lot of Western countries do.
