HELP ME is not a good topic

The worst possible forum topics on the planet.

  • CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME
  • I NEED HELP
  • PLEASE HELP
  • HELP ME
  • HELP

Why?  Because they don't say what you need help with.

I just did a Google search for "Can somebody help me" with a return of about 14 million results.

Please use a brief but descriptive topic in your posts.  It makes a world of difference in the replies you receive.

A true story.

One hot summer day, driving on a busy blvd in the California southland, a frail, elderly man was standing on the center concrete divider.  My husband and I were waiting in the left hand turn lane for the signal to change.  The man frantically tapped on our car window and said "Please, please help me."

Fearing he was in medical distress, I asked him how we could help. He said, "I'm lost and I need to get home."

Long story short, he had Alheizmer's Disease.  But he was finally able to tell us what was familiar to him.  It was a retirement hotel on Ocean Blvd. in Santa Monica adjacent to the beach.

I asked 3 men sitting on the porch of the hotel if they knew our passenger and they said "Yes, that's Jack. He was a former resident but he hasn't lived here for 3 years."  They also said they would make sure he got home OK.

I said a great sigh of relief, thanked them and handed him over.

My husband said, "Don't ever do that again."

I said, "Why not? There but for the grace us of all...  If we can't help one another, what's the point?"

He said, "OK, but don't DO THAT again."
