When you update Win10 to version 1803 you may lose file sharing on a home network

If so, go to https://winaero.com/blog/network-computers-not-visible-windows-10-version-1803/

ADDED NOTE - do not install anything, follow the manual instructions to change the setting

CAUTION:   Norton Internet Security cautions that the link leads to a download of "tools" that contain malicious software and will delete the .exe after it's downloaded.  If you go around these warnings and go forward with the loading onto a windows machine you are going down a rabbit hole that you really probably don't want to go down. If it is installed and you then try to do an uninstall, you must be very careful to continue with the install even though the uninstall window appears to have the uninstall button grayed out and trys to lead you to call a phone or otherwise lead you down the "garden path".  BE AFRAID, VERY AFRAID!

I did not install anything, I followed the manual instructions on the page

Win key + R

type services.msc and press enter

scroll down to Function Discovery Resource Publication and double click

change Manual to Automatic

click Start to run the process then click OK

Did this on both computers (wife and mine) and file sharing works again

affects homegroups esp printers and can add delay time to system start up but if you are ok with that then go ahead and set it to auto
