Why is it important that the Co-Presidents of Sony Pictures Television have taken jobs with Apple?
Netflix and amazon have made some significant inroads with delivering award-winning Internet movies. Apple looked to a pair of award winners, to help them with developing significant motion picture content.
The more motion picture production which flows through the web content pipeline, the more jobs are created and the more facilities, gear, and educational resources are developed.
North America is already the world’s leader in media content production. That service sector industry, for North American audiences, cannot be manufactured in Asia—it’s home grown, here.
The more the world demands North American creative content, the more everyone thrives.

No question, streaming has arrived. Apart from my husband's "can't live without it" sports packages, we rarely use our Direct TV service anymore. 80% of our favorite programming comes from the Roku stick -- Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, and others....

Not the full $1.14T (I like to share the wealth).
In addition to media+entertainment (M&E) consulting that market is fusing into hospitality as well. So, yes, our services are in demand. (…and that's why I have all sorts of that industry biz data, like that).
But while we're at it, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics is projecting M&E job growth at 27,400 in the US alone. (So, I guess I have to share my $1T+ with a bunch of newbies!)

I wonder how all that money is split up though.
A lot of "American" productions are shot in Canada or Australia or Europe. For example, Game of Thrones is an American HBO production but it's almost all shot in Europe and North Africa. Editing and special effects happens all over the place.
I'm certainly not saying that this is a bad thing--I have friends in Canada, Europe and here in Australia who earn the bulk of their income working on "American" films and TV.
The growth in creative industries can only be good for people all over the world.

It's true that media production is an extremely competitive industry and it's true that motion picture production is tallied by the US Dept of Commerce throughout North America.
There are statewide tax credits and other incentives involved in attracting these things. Then there's climate. If a production wants to shoot in Toronto in January, the production company's insurer could get worried an it gets pushed to Orlando. Then there's just sound stage availability Pinewood (known for James Bond movies) owns great facilities in Georgia and Ontario but if they're booked and there are financial incentives for their European locations, it can get pushed there instead.
