Backup must be done before data is lost. Are you sure it is lost? What operating system are you using? We can try to help, but be prepared that it is too late.

As Silkrooster said, you must back up first. However, if you need to back up, get yourself a Western Digital external flash drive (a Passport drive). These come in all sizes, from 64 kb to 500 gb. I have a 250 gb drive and it's a life saver. I not only back up files and folders, but there's space enough on it to make it a working drive. These connnect via USB ports. That slows 'em down, but they're really worth their price (very cheap). These are plug and play devices. No installation of software is needed. There is some transfer software available, but I just drag a file or a folder from my main, internal drive to the passport. It's that easy.
I'd suggest that you shop at Newegg.com. They have the best prices on nearly everything. They are everything computer components. They also have complete rigs at very fair prices.
