A friend went on a cruise recently. He sent me footage on an SD card ( mp4, 6 gig ) in mail. He shot ( basically) a personal documentary of his time on cruise, using a pocket point and shoot camera. He included still images, titles and lots of narration ( camera mic built into camera), which he edited in PPro.
So, for two and 1/2 hours I can watch what is was like to be on this 'cruise'. It is very impressive. And funny, cause he says things like, " I have no idea what that stuff is growing on the wall here in Central Park." It is so natural and honest and fun to watch ! Way better than anything on TV right now. For that matter, it's way better than what's on TV most of the time.
I've watched about 40 min so far... I put into an editing program and just watch full screen ( it's 720p, 30 fps) as I feel like watching it...
Now, the great thing about adobe is that you can share stuff. Make it and share it. But you can also work with other people on a joint project ( also by sending stuff via mail to each other in a good editing codec ).
Once you get up to about 6 gig the idea of sending stuff via internet is retarded. Most people just don't have the upload and download speeds to do that, since just mailing the stuff is faster and so on.
But whatever, these are two things worth thinking about.
A) share stuff and have fun
B) share stuff and work on projects together.
How cool is that ?? !!!
Here's some Vikings on parade ( following some oriental seafarers ) in an onboard festival.
This is really ON a BOAT ! ( OR SHIP AS THEY ARE RIGHTLY CALLED ). Amazing !

In the video of the parade, the young woman (wearing a braided red wig?) saw me recording, and stuck her tongue out at me as she walked past... made me chuckle, and I'm sure she sometimes gets bored, doing the same thing every week

I am strictly a home video producer, on DVD... which PPro/Encore does very well
This time, going to warm weather Vacation 2019 where I would be wearing cargo shorts with big pockets, I took my Canon 500 that fits in a pocket
I had never used the 500 before (bought it for my wife to be a purse camera, but it's easy for her to just use her cell phone) and found out that the wind filter my Canon 510 has is not present in the smaller camera... so recording outside on anything other than a completely calm day had wind disruption noise
Oh well... I was only recording to show my wife what she missed when she decided she couldn't fly from Portland OR to Miami, so I was on the couch to tell her the words she was missing due to the wind noise interfering with my narration

Cruises are awesome holidays. My wife and I have been on five of them now. Four in the Caribbean and one in the mediterranean. Looking forward to the next one!

I'm really enjoying what John shot and narrated. He did a great job. To be able to put into PPro ( or in my case resolve ) and scrub through it, go back and forward in timeline, all that stuff ( plus adjust sound master gain as needed ) is really cool.
If people share this stuff in the NLE they can actually collaborate and add value ( re-edit with a 'team' ) and so on... so I think it's great.
I'm now a little past the halfway point of the video John made and still loving it.

davinci resolve 15 generated SMPTE color bars has a bug in 720p timelines... what you GET is the black box inside the real color bars you're supposed to be getting...
I wasted so much time trying to calibrate a monitor using this bug I am afraid to tell you because you would know how much of an idiot I am then.
Like, you would wonder, "Do you really think anyone would design a color bar without red and blue ?? " And no Pluge ?
I wish there was a way to let my CS6 generate bars and stick that into other NLE's and vica-versa ...
Anyway, I only had 720 stuff on the PIG and on the laptop only one short 1080p thing so I was using 720 to calibrate. What a waste of time that was...

Watching John's video … ( almost done unfortunately cause it's been really fun to watch ) … he's now back in Miami Port and visiting some Miami Zoo ( after visiting various islands in Caribbean ). His narration continues to crack me up.
Basically he says ( paraphrased ), " This lion is looking across a giant moat he can't get across at people like me. He wishes someone would come over and play with him. Unfortunately his idea of play would probably be fatal to a human. "
hehe...

maybe he said tiger instead of lion ??

If I said Lion I meant Tiger... and a fun tidbit about this particular Sumatran Tiger is that while Tigers in general like water, this one doesn't like to get his face wet so the BACKS into the pool for a soak
As soon as I take some pics, I'll show what I've been doing since returning

Before I flew to Miami to go on a cruise, I had started the framing to convert an open area where the former owner had a (deceased) hot tub into a planting & hobby room for my wife... she started calling it a greenhouse, now says it is her "She Shed"
When I returned the job continued with siding (Hardie concrete panels that are HEAVY and impervious to weather) and now at the stage of putting clear polycarbonate panels on the new roof that goes from the old hot tub roof to the wall next to the back deck we added to the house... note the full size panel I am about to cut down from 8' to the 6' of the new roof
Door frames are in, will hang the doors when we're through putting 1x6 paneling on the inside and trim on the outside
Room is "about" 15x15 so plenty of room for her plants

The First Giraffe...
This little girl sees her first Giraffe at Miami Zoo, shot by John, and feeds it a leaf ( supervised by... and leaf is provided by Zoo people … cause Giraffe's love to eat this leaf and it's good for them ).
So Giraffe meets girl for first time and girl meets Giraffe for first time... and the girl gives a present ( food ) to the Giraffe.
How cool is that ???
END OF JOHN'S DOCUMENTARY..
