Thank you for taking the initiative to support women who may need to travel to different states to exercise their rights to control their own reproductive choices. Adobe has always been a technology leader and I am grateful you are stepping up to address a grievous wrong. I've always been a loyal Adobe user and will continue to do so.

Since the ruling and even before it, corporations have stepped up to help cover  expenses for employees who must travel out of state to receive proper healthcare services.  Among them Redit, Tesla, Condé Nast, Google, Warner Bros, Disney, Meta, Starbucks, Johnson & Johnson, Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Levi Strauss, Uber, Lyft, Zillow and many others.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/24/business/abortion-companies-travel-expenses.html

Adobe, which had previously said its health care policy covered travel expenses for abortions, said: “We have and will always prioritize inclusive benefits to create a world-class culture for our employees.”

Safe-harbor states like California, Oregon, Washington, Maryland, New York and Massachusetts have already begun ramping-up to accommodate the expected influx of patients traveling from red states.

There is a proposal to issue federal travel vouchers and child care assistance to women who need to go out-of-state.  Another proposal could establish safe-harbor clinics on federal owned lands.

A small group of Democrats are also proposing a bill called the Health and Location Data Protection Act  -- a $1 billion federal push to keep women's medical and reproductive healthcare data private in a post-Roe world.

There's much work ahead.  And the minority wackadoodles can pound sand. 😬

Vote blue in 2022!

You guys. I'm pro-choice but Roe was always on shaky constitutional grounds (so is Obergefell). It was passed by an activist court and has always been vuinerable. All the court did is to say that the federal government has no place in it and that they're handing it back to the states where it belongs and where it always was before. Nobody is banning abortion. Before Roe, it was illegal in my state, and people just drove across the state line to do this.

And as for la Libération, hate to tell them but France has a 14-week abortion ban. A total BAN nationwide. That is not what we're doing here.  And before 2021 it was 10 weeks. They only extended it to 12 weeks last year and only very recently to 14 weeks. Frenchwomen have to travel ABROAD to get abortions. And they do so. And here we are losing it because we have to drive to another state, which is how it always was before.  I went to school in France briefly and worked for Air France for 11 years and went there al the time so I am sorry but  have to laugh sometimes. And what a disgusting not to mention inaccurate and over the top illustration. EW. Now everybody just breathe. I'm sure there are actual causes you can devote yourselves to if you need one so badly.

Several states have trigger laws that will ban elective abortion entirely, many without any exceptions for sexual assault resulting in conception or incest.

I don't want to discuss the delay but just to specify that it is not "French", it is the one recommended by the EU which has been applied in order to harmonize.

If you know France well you should know two things:
- the law provides for so many exceptions (vaguely defined) that in practice the delay is not often a problem. 😉
- in public hospitals it is completely free, for all, without exception. Even for uninsured foreigners.

"And what a disgusting not to mention inaccurate and over the top illustration."

This is the principle of the caricature.

🙂

We also have exceptions here. And as I said, I'm personally pro-choice. All I'm saying is that this stupid hysteria with these idiot women at protests looking like a bunch of escaped mental patients, acting like it's the Handmaid's Tale, are not helping. It just makes us look bad. There are just too many nitwits on both sides of this issue. I'm just as put off by the Republicans who rhapsodize about the Bible and "murdering babies" etc.  All the Supreme Court did is to say that this issue does not belong with the federal government and handed it back to the states. This "right" simply is not in the Constituition and never was. This is how it always was before Roe, and women simply drove to another state. I personally know women who did that. And nobody acted like they were living under Sharia law or something for petes sake.

But now they're acting like a woman would have to fly to the planet Venus to get an abortion and it is just not true. I just think there are too many people who seem to need a cause, a reason to be irate and protest and block traffic and feel like they've "Made a Difference."  All I'm saying is that this is not a very good one. And I'm also saying that Miss Coco has a very flawed understanding of our Constitution (and so, apparently, do a lot of Americans). In addition to that, though, I hope you can understand why seeing our flag desecrated in this repulsive manner by a foreigner is especially repugnant to me.

Yes, just what I was saying.These people are not "family-friendly," and keep in mind they were all in public where children could see. An admission that the "demonstrators" are unsuitable for viewing. I'll take it. So you agree that they make us look bad.

quoteThis "right" simply is not in the Constituition and never was.

By @Leslie Moak Murray

==========

Neither is inter-racial marriage (14th amendment) or women's right to vote (19th amendment).

The founding fathers drafted the Constitution as a framework to a new government for the benefit of the people; not a weapon to be used against the people.  Anyone who suggests that the Constitution is immutable (as Clarence Thomas did), spits in the face of the founding fathers and on 235 years of civil, social & human rights reforms.

Roe v Wade was ruled on in 1973 by an overwhelming majority of conservatives & liberals based on our civil right to privacy afforded by the 14th amendment.  Both Nixon & Reagan (staunch conservatives of the day) supported legalized abortion because it was the right thing to do to.

No woman should have to cross borders to obtain clean, safe reproductive healthcare services.  Sadly, in the wake of recent events, too many Planned Parenthood clinics have had to shut their doors thus depriving women in rural areas from even minimal access to PAP tests and pre-natal healthcare.  This is lunacy.

Thomas and his co-horts (Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, Barrett, et al) are pandering to the micro-christo-faccist Taliban cults they identify with.  These same people would have you believe that children's lives matter, yet they vehemently oppose gun restrictions that would make it impossible for angry young men to legally buy assault rifles with high capacity magazines and commit atrocious mass shootings  -- EVERY WEEK!!!

The current Supreme Court is not impartial.  It's operating in Fantasyland or maybe Frontierland.  I can't decide which is worse.  In any case, they clearly have no idea how to cope with Todayland  much less reach Tomorrowland.

But interracial marriage IS in the constitution now. Roe never was. It was erroneously construed to fall under the "privacy" wording of the already-extant 14th Amendment. Nobody is banning abortion. You just drive to another state like we did before 1973. And to call mainstream Christians "fascist Taliban" is just over the top. And actually fascism comes from the Left, and we are living it right now. It's corporations in bed with the federal government (Pfizer, Moderna, Google, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram etc not to mention most of the "news" media who take their marching orders from the DNC). Hitler was a vegan, pro-abortion, and had National Healthcare you know. And I'll just repeat here that I personally am a pro-choice Classical Liberal. But those Democrats right now? Those are not Democrats, not anymore. We should all be very sccared right now, just not for the reasons you might think.

Inter-racial marriage is NOT in the Constitution. Loving v. Virginia was decided on the same basis as Roe v. Wade.

n 1967, the United States Supreme Court (the Warren Court) unanimously ruled in Loving v. Virginia that anti-miscegenation laws are unconstitutional. After Loving, the remaining state anti-miscegenation laws were repealed; the last state to repeal its laws against interracial marriage was Alabama in 2000. And it is absurd that any of you would even imply that this would ever be overturned.

===========

Based on last week's rulings  the court  made it clear that ANY ruling since 1787 can be overturned if it suits their agenda.  Roberts' hands are tied.  He's lost control of what is now a court gone rogue.

  • Look out reproductive rights; hello increased infant & maternal mortality.
  • LGBTQ rights?  Fuggetaboutit!
  • Same-s*x marriage, hasta la vista baby.
  • Toodle-oo equal representation & voting rights; say hello to gerrymandering, redistricting and State Secretaries tossing out legal ballots for no reason.
  • Interracial marriage is up for grabs, too because everything is on the line. What's good for the goose is good for the gander...

===========

"Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian ultranationalist political ideology and movement, characterized by dictatorial power, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy (white  men), subordination of individual interests for the good of the nation, and strong regimentation of society and the economy."

============

I think we can all agree that we are living in perilous times but it's not the liberals who created this climate of mass distrust, prejudice, hate, lies and fear mongering. We all know where that comes from  -- fueled in spades by initials DJT.

Fortunately, there are some sane liberals and conservatives among us who are joining together to calm the storms and reverse this toxic climate before it destroys us all.

If enough rational people pull together & vote for qualified candidates in the 2022 midterms, we can affect positive changes.  But unless that happens, I fear we're doomed to curse the darkness the way Iran has since 1979.

Trump wasn't a "flashlight in a dark room", he was a bull in a china shop. All of his SCOTUS picks were recommendations from the Federalist Society, who wanted a court hostile to social justice and friendly to corporations. They got exactly what they wanted.

If you consider that a cartoon desecrates your flag, it is probably because you are at the same level of tolerance as the Islamists and the Kouachi brothers who massacred the editorial staff of Charlie Hebdo with Kalashnikovs for the same reason.
