When I'm away from the computer for an hour, my workspace simply disappears. All I can see are the pallets and toolbars. My screensaver takes the place of workspace. What's going on?

Have you tried turning off your screensaver?

I don't use one anymore.  After being idle for a while, my screen just goes dark.

What system?, PC or Mac? I am having similar issues and trying to nail down if it is HW or SW. My system also locked me out after a short time out so also trying to nail down what is the trigger...

If I have an app open I cannot access as all aspects via toolbar and even the hard drive have disappeared so the only way out is to shut down via the startup button! Does this sound familiar?

You posted your question in the non-technical Lounge forum, which is where you can connect with your peers for conversations that don't directly relate to product help and support. Let us know what application you are asking about (for example, Photoshop, Premiere, Captivate), and we’ll move your question to the appropriate forum so that you can get the answer you are looking for.

Sounds like you have the Application Frame closed in your App. Go to  Window --> Application Frame and make sure it is checked.
