Error when numbering pages

Does anyone know the answer to the above problem:

I keep receiving a message when trying to number pages through Header and Footer: "An error was encountered while retrieving page content. " I created a document from word and powerpoint and keep getting this message.

"I keep receiving a message when trying to number pages through Header and Footer: An error was encountered while retrieving page content.  I created a document from word and powerpoint and keep getting this message."
