Beginner Q: Switching between alternate a's

Hi,

I'm working on a font, that has an alternate 'a'. The second version isn't a swash-character or anything, it's just a different design.

Does open type have a feature to switch between these two, and at the same time changing related characters (ä,á, etc.)?

I had trouble finding info about this ...

Kind regards,
Jimmi

That would be either stylistic alternates ('salt') or stylistic sets ('ss01' etcetera).

Look at the OpenType feature tag registry, which is an appendix to the OpenType specification, for descriptions of these features.

That's just what I was looking for...

I knew it would be there somewhere, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Kind regards
