Please help with a hidden font problem.

Basically, I am having conflict issues with Berthold Akzidenz-Grotesk font. I have removed it from Suitcase and from the system folder on the Mac in OS 10.5.7. However it will still show up as being open in all Adobe programs. I guess it is installed somewhere within an Adobe program but I cannot find it. Any help would be appreciated.

Adobe software has never installed any Berthold fonts with any of its software. I suspect that you have font cache problems on your Mac. There are tools available for cleaning and fixing that cache.

Thanks for the quick response Dov. I will look into that. But why does the font not show up in other programs such as Quark?

thanks,

Scott

Don't know why they don't appear in QuarkXPress, but your providing this information provides me with the basis for a further suggestion.

Exit all Adobe applications. Then look for and delete all files on your disk drives with the name of the form AdobeFnt##.lst where ## is a two digit number. Adobe does cache font information and perhaps those phantom fonts are still being reported in the Adobe cache. Those cache files will be automatically generated next time you run the appropriate Adobe applications with the only side affect being a longer start-up time during that first application invocation.

Let us know if this helps?

Okay Dov,

First I tried deleting all of the "AdobeFnt.lst files. Restarted and still same problem.

Next I downloaded "AppleJack" and ran that to clean all of the caches. Restarted and still the same problem.

Help!!

Thanks,

Scott

Guess you now have to actually go looking for files matching the names of the font  files you thought you previously deleted and see where else copies may be "hidden."

However, Adobe programs do have a couple of font folders available only to them. Perhaps someone installed the fonts there? They can be found in:

your account/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts

or: Hard Drive/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts

Try checking those folders
