@danielb94023111 Don't you see a plus icon at the right-lower corner of the text box? It tells you more texts are hidden below the text box. This is most likely caused by a large leading (the space between multiple lines of type) value inherited from another document or another type layer. To fix this, set the value smaller, or just execute "Reset Character" command in the Character panel context menu.
The "Reset Character" command is good command to remember. It is a handy tool to reset all the settings in Character panel to the defaults. You can resolve the issue like this quickly. I hope this helos.

Oh, I see. If you are using Zhuyin Traditional Chinese IME (input method/input source/keyboard), we are aware of the issue with the IME and working on the fix. In the meantime, you can use other IME such as Pinyin Traditional or others available on Mac. Or, delete all the extra characters appear to the right of insertion cursor. I understand your pain caused by this issue. Thank you for your patience.
If this is not Zhuyin Traditional Chinese IME, please let me know what IME you use.

With Photoshop, do you see "Lorem Ipsum..."? If so, open Preferences > Type. See if "Fill new type layers with placeholder text" is checked. Uncheck it if it is checked.

Thank you for reporting the issue. If this issue is using Zhuyin Traditional Chinese input method, the issue has been reported, and an Adobe engineering team is investigating it. If you see the issue with other input methods, let me know the names of them.

@Amy Pace Thank you for reporting the issue with Pauline Didone Variable font in Photoshop. I was able to reproduce the issue. It seems the alternate glyphs with this font have never worked with any past and current versions of Photoshop. I will report this as a bug so that our engineering team can investigate the cause and solution.

@Dan27069967k3pl Do you have this issue with all fonts in your system, or all fonts created with font forge, or particular font(s) created with font forge? Do you mind sharing a font with this issue with us?
If that is possible, please report the issue and attach the font.

@shaver80 Yes, if you paste Simplified Chinese characters when Ps UI is set to English, the font used for Chinese characters is Kozuka Gothic. There is currently no way to change it other than setting the UI to Simplified Chinese. You mentioned "If I paste first and then change the font, I also see boxes." When this happens, select a glyph appeared as a box. What is the font name appeared in the font menu in the tool options bar? Do you still see Kozuka or you see the proprietary font name?

@shaver80 It might be an issue with the loading the font, and a fallback font might be used. Can you see the font in the font menu of Photoshop? Select the type layer with the pasted text and select the font. What happens? Do you see boxes still? Where is the font installed in your system? Can you locate the font and make sure it has been installed properly? Please let me know the file path.

Do you mind telling us what the client font is? Again, if you set Photoshop UI to Simplified Chinese, pasting Simplified Chinese text should appear correctly without selecting a font explicitly.

Hi @shaver80
What is the font you use? The text you mentioned is in simplified Chinese. Japanese (Kozuka for example) or traditional Chinese (Adobe Fan Heiti Std for example) do not have some glyphs in the text, hence the boxes appear.
Use simplified Chinese font such as Adobe Heiti Std.

Not sure this helps, but can you try setting the type layer's layout to "Latin and East Asian Layout" in the context menu of the Paragraph panel? Le me know if it makes difference. Also, if you can post the test file, it would be helpful. Thanks.

The Stylistic sets control is not in Character panel. Open Properties panel and find the icon. (See the panel picture I posted.) Click on it to open the pop-up menu. Make sure none of the stylistic sets is selected. Deselect it if any.

@Muhammed5E44 You wrote:
>> When I double click any letter from a sytlistic set, what I type from my keyboard will follow that style. The thing is when you go "Basic Latin and Latin 1", and select for example letter r, that gives the letter r from the "Stylistic Alternatives" letters.
In order to control what you type from keyboard rather than directly selecting glyphs from Glyphs panel, there are two controls you need to pay attention, "Stylistic alternates" and "Stylistic sets." Here I did some experiments with Raustila font. Note that the behavior may be different for other fonts with stylistic alternates. You need to try it out how the font you are using behaves by setting these controls.
The "Stylistic alternates" and "Stylistic sets" controls are found in the Type Options section of Type Layer Properties panel. Select a type layer in Layers panel, and open the properties panel. Scroll down to Type Options section.
Below is the result of my experiments. As you can see here, in order to type glyphs in default "Basic Latin and Latin 1", Stylistic alternates must be off and none of the stylistic alternates is selected. If you see glyphs from stylistic alternates as you type, check the both controls. Notice that when Stylistic alternates is On, the glyphs from the Stylistic set 1 appears regardless of the stylistic settings selected.
Again, this behavior may or may not be true for other fonts. Try it with your favorite fonts, and find out how those controls work.

Can you check the Digits setting in the "Middle Eastern Features" section of the Type Layer Properties panel?
1. Select the Type layer in the Layers panel.
2. Open the Properties panel.
3. Scroll down to the Middle Eastern Features section.
4. Open the section and expand it further by clicking ... icon.
5. Check the Digits setting.
Does it say "Farsi..."?
If it does, set it to "LTR Arabic", then try typing.

Character direction can be set in the flyout menu of the Character panle. Please check below. Make sure Default Direction is selected if you selected English as UI language.
If you still have difficulties setting the character direction from the menu, reset Preferences settings by opening Preferences dialog (Cmd+K on Mac, Ctrl+K on Win). In General tab, click on "Reset Preferences On Quit" button. Click OK twice and restart Photoshop. This will reset all the customized settings to default settings.

Hi tomogun, Thank you for reporting the issue.
I just tried this with my MacBook running the latest Ps 23.0.2 on Big Sur, but I could not reproduce this. I don't have AXIS fonts on my machine though.
Can you please tell me which versions of Photoshop have this issue and which versions of Photoshop do not? Is it possible for you to try this with the latest Photoshop 23.0.2 just released?
Also, is this happening with particular fonts such as AXIS you named, or any Japanese fonts such as KozukaGothic? Do you have any issues with selecting Latin fonts?
Thanks.

A caution to the workaround above: It can be applied if the script is Latin or CJK. If you are using Middle East or North African scripts, you cannot use this workaround. Rasterize type if that is the case.

この問題はPhotoshopではサポートしていない古いG P Uに起因するもので、立ち上げ時にG P Uを完全に無視することによって、回避できる事が確認されました。手順としては、
Photoshopを終了する。
添付のPSUserConfig.txt をSettingsフォルダーに入れる。
[Installation Drive]:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\[Photoshop_version]\[Photoshop_version]Settings\
3. Photoshopを立ち上げる。
試してみてください。結果をお知らせ頂ければ幸いです。

I was able to reproduce your issue with Glyphs panel. This might be a bug in Glyphs panel. I will open a but report. As a workaround, you can use a feature which allows you to select alternate glyphs on canvas. To turn this feature on, open Preferences and select Type tab. Check the option "Enable Type layer glyph alternates" and close the Preferences dialog. You do not have to restart Photoshop. With this feature turned on, you will get a list of alternate glyphs when you select a character and mouse over thick gray underline. Selecting the base glyph from the list works fine based on my experiments. A caveat is it replaces only one character. You have to do it character by character. Please try it.
When you are really stuck or many glyphs are affected, what you can do is to select text and perform "Reset Character" from the context menu of Character panel. Then, set the font and its attributes again. I know it is a pain, but at least this saves you time for retyping or recreating the type layer.
