This in no way solves your lost file problem but, in future, I would strongly recommend using the Photo Downloader from Bridge. This is generally foolproof and copies files rather than moving them leaving your camera cards as they were. It has lots of options such as choosing a destination folder, renaming files, adding metadata etc. It has long been my go to method for obtaining photos from my cameras. One dubious option it has is to delete the original files as they are downloaded! DON'T do that - get them downloaded and backed up before you do anthything else with your camera cards. ... Why not simply rename the Raw file BEFORE you generate a jpeg then both will have the same name? That is what I do with my many thousands of images so there is never a problem should I wish to find the original Raw. ... View more

Are you adding the SAME description to multiple files? If so, simply select them all (if they are located "all over the place" then try placing them in a Collection first for easy access) and then type in your description in the "Description" field in the IPTC metadata section in the Metadata Panel within Bridge. If that is not visible then look in Preferences>Metadata and make sure that IPTC and Description are both checked. For different descriptions with each file you will be struggling. If you are accessing the Camera Raw Plugin from Bridge, rather than Photoshop, then clicking on Done should save all edits and return you to Bridge. Is that not happening? ... View more

Hi Gary, The function keys F1 to F10 can be remapped to various tasks I believe but, to be honest, that is something I have never attempted - never felt the need! The programmable keys I referred to  Microsoft calls "Favourites". There are five of them on the very top row of the keyboard. Hi Gary, PCs are inherently customisable with regard to hardware. In particular there are literally hundreds of different keyboards available from many manufacturers. Clearly, I can’t speak for them all but I have a Microsoft 5050 keyboard and, in answer to your question, this one does allow one to adjust certain computer-level activities directly from the keyboard with single-button control e.g. volume, sound muting, music playback functions etc. There are single press buttons available for opening commonly used apps like mail, browser and so on. There is also a very useful bank of five “Favourite” buttons which can be programmed to open other apps or files e.g. Bridge, Photoshop or a particular spreadsheet for example. You are not saying whether you are referring to the  Camera Raw Plugin or the Camera Raw Filter accessed when have already opened an image in Photoshop.  Also which version of Camera Raw are you using? If you have version 17, then look in Camera Raw Preferences>Technology Previews and check the box "New AI Features and Settings Panel." You will then see the Enhance tools in the Detail Panel where they can be used via sliders non-destructively (unlike in the past where a new DNG image was generated.)  Note that the Camera Raw Filter does not have this feature.     ... You have selected a folder, Downloads in this case, and are then looking in the Filter Panel under the File Type filter category. When you check a box you will see just the files from the selected folder within the category you checked.  Presumably the shortcuts you see are that type of file i.e. ISF. ... View more

This is an ongoing criticism to which I have seen no solution. I don't think getting a better machine would make a jot of difference. There is little lacking on my machine which works light lightening in all apps apart from Bridge where I too have the same issue. I can only offer my sympathies and I share your concerns. ...
