if you have the latest version of cc2017 you can span footnotes across two or more columns in a multi column text frame (one text frame with two or more columns) (if you have two or more single column text frames in this case you can't span footnotes)

Did you placed file word with automatic bulleted lists? For automatic bulleted lists Word use a different font (symbol for example) and this could create problems in indesign. You could place file word in indesign by converting bulleted lists in text and then with find-change you could replace missing glyph. Or in Word you could replace the font used for automatic lists Or create new bulleted lists in indesign

You could duplicate your paragraph style that you actually use for your titles and rename it in, for example, "Title for summary". Then you should apply this paragraph style only on the first occurrences of your titles.
