UPDATE: Further testing leads me to believe that it's audio issues. I copied the sequence and deleted all the audio tracks and now it plays fine. Even if I fill 5 tracks with .wav audio, it still plays fine. So I think I need to render and replace some of the other compressed audio formats. Weird that they didn't cause issues until everything was on one timeline. Now the question is: what would be the best audio format (I'm guessing uncompressed .wav or something). I would mark this "resolved" or even delete this post, but can't see how to do it. Mods feel free to do either. Hi! I'm at the stage of my project where I need to put all the small sequences on one big timeline and make transitions, etc. I did that by copying/pasting them all into one big timeline. The problem is that now I constantly have to wait between 8-15 seconds when I hit the spacebar for playback (I have timed it). This only happens in this long sequence. This happens whether or not I've made any adjustments to anythig, or if I just scroll to another section on the timeline. All the separate shorter sequences still play just fine. I was actually loving Premiere up until this started happening. Now I'm totally freaking out about my deadline. Here is what I've tried (none of it has helped). Playback resolution 1/4 (lowest it will go) disabled all fx no no nesting imported entire sequence into new project video card drivers are updated Things I've not tried yet Rendering out the dynamic link AE projects (just some text animations) Rendering and replacing source files (it's a behind-the-scenes and I've got footage from a bunch of different sources and framerates) I am losing soooo much time, and it's unbearable to keep working like this. System info Windows 10 pro (latest update), 32 gb RAM, i7-3770 3.40GHz, cache on an ssd (separate from OS drive), NVIDIA GTX1060 with 6 gb ram, source files on a fast RAID, Premiere Pro version 14.1.0 build 116 -- there is an update available but I'm afraid to update and make things even worse. Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi! Alt + scrollwheel zooms tracks horizontally in Premiere Pro when you're in the timeline, but I would love to use something like ctrl+scrollwheel or shift+scrollwheel to zoom an audio track vertically while in the timeline (like you can when you hover over a track header). I can't find any way to assign this behavior in PP. Is there a way to do this that I'm overlooking? Kind regards, Lori

I'm having the same problem with the rectangular marquee tool since updating to 2020 version. It's completely unusable now. Hand tool is also behaving as you describe, except it's not consistent. Sometimes it works as it should...I can't find any pattern to it, though. The alt for sampling colors seems to be working for me so far.

Hi Ann, BTS = Behind the Scenes I don't have to author the discs myself. I just supply the final versions of the videos that will be on the disc. A third party does the actual authoring, creates the menus, etc.

Hi all, I am about to start editing a BTS video that will need to be put on a Blu-Ray AND and NTSC DVD. I live in PAL land, and will be dealing with footage from various sources in different frame rates. The question is: How should I set up my Premiere Pro project and sequences to make it easiest to export video/audio for Blu-Ray AND DVD? I'm mainly concerned with frame rate issues. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm on the full CC plan and use PS a lot for photo editing. But not for working with text-heavy docs. No idea how I'd approach working on a big text document in PS. I was hoping to get some guidance based on my original question about what kind of formatting I can expect to carry over from a text editor when pasting into PP. No worries, I'll figure it out on my own through trial and error. Note for me next year when I have to do this again and start Googling: If you want the type of credits that are in two columns, with the left column right justified and vice versa, do your original doc in TABLES in your word processor. That way you can select the right and left sides, and paste them into boxes in the graphics editor. Make master styles for left, right and any centered texts you want. You still have to line stuff up manually, but it's really the only way I've found to do it. (Greater minds feel free to chime in!). It appears that there is no way to put right/left justified or centered tabs into PP, so doing it that way in your word processor is setting you up for a frustrating experience.

Thanks, Ann. I get the credit info as a word doc. It's such a mess. They want some credits centered, some with right/left justified tabs with the text on the right normal style and the text on the left bold, etc. There are about 300 lines total. There has to be a simple way to do this (if not, it's a business opportunity for somebody).

Hi Everyone, I am tasked with creating a very long credit roll. I understand the basics, but oh man, the formatting is making me crazy. Here is my question: Are there any tricks for formatting my original text document so that PP will respect the formatting when I paste in the text? For example, keeping paragraph alignment, right/left justified tabs, bold, italics, etc? Anything at all? I am having to do so much manual formatting after I paste...and the formatting the credits author did in the original document (tabs, etc.) is just making everything a much bigger headache. Thanks in advance for any tips, Lori

Wow, Steve, thanks! If this works I will be sooooooooo freaking happy! That inexplicable ding that happens sometimes has been driving me CRAZY. It happens in Photoshop and Premier pro. I use shortcut keys as much as possible, so I'm hoping that it's a case of my inadvertently triggering some kind of "access related" beep. The instructions for finding the settings didn't work for me in Win 10, however. Here is how I found them on my machine: Click the magnifying glass in the taskbar to search Type: access The search results give you the option to open the Ease of Access settings. Once that dialog opens, just go to the keyboard settings and make the desired changes. I unchecked all the options to have shortcuts enable Ease of Access Settings. Fingers crossed that this works!

Hi...I found this thread when trying to figure out how to resize a text box because I changed my mind and want to add more text. I can add text, but the box doesn't expand, and the extra text just disappears down the bottom of the box. Is there seriously no way to resize a text box that you created by just clicking and typing?

Hi Shivangi, thanks for stepping in! The timecode is not present in the resulting render from AME, nor can I see it in the preview in AME. If I render directly from PP, the timecode shows up in the rendered video. The weird thing is that I can see the timecode in the "export media" preview in PP, before I hit the "queue" button and send it to AME. But over in AME, it's gone. If it is some kind of setting mismatch, where should I look in AME? Oh, and to be abundantly clear, it is a timecode effect added to a transparent video layer in PP, not the timecode effect that you can add later in the export dialog. Hope this helps figure it out! Cheers, Lori

Hi! I made a timecode overlay on a transparent video layer in Premiere pro, and want to export to the AME queue. But when I render from AME, the timecode does not show up. I see it in the Premiere Pro export dialog, but once I hit "queue" and AME opens, the timecode is gone. Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks in advance, Lori

OK, after a couple of hours trying EVERYTHING with adobe support, I found a solution that worked on my Windows 10 system. I was getting this error suddenly and inexplicably in all projects, and could not work with any text at all even in new projects. A low-level exception occurred in: Text (AEVideoFilter:11) The solution was to delete a third party text I'd installed the day before (Arial Narrow), and REBOOT. Problem solved. Hope this helps someone...there is another thread about this from 2017, but it's still relevant today. Apparently, some third party texts can cause problems. I have several on my system, but this Arial Narrow is the first one that has been a problem. Luckily I remembered installing it...if it had been a while since I used PP, I'd have no idea which font might be the culprit! The original thread is here: A low level exception occured in AE.ADBE Text

This problem started for me today, suddenly, out of the blue, on a project that has been fine. The solutions about disabling hardware acceleration and Mercury Transmit didn't work, unfortunately. I can't see any text now in my project, nor do any work on it. The error is "A low-level exception occurred in: Text (AEVideoFilter:11) On to trying the next solution...

Thanks, Averdahl...those give you the same end result as Alt+[ or ] work in AE, but with crucial differences. 1) I have to have the track activated 2) I have to keep track of "next" and "previous" With huge projects with many clips, it would be way faster (for me) to select the clip I want to move (regardless of which tracks are "active") with the mouse, and then use a keyboard shortcut to move it to the playhead. I am coming to the conclusion that this is simply not possible in PP. Thanks for trying, anyway!

Thanks, but Q does a ripple, affecting all the clips on your timeline along with the one you selected. So this answer is definitely NOT correct (sorry!). In the interim, I've found that if I select a clip's edit point (highlighed red bracket), I can use the key e to extend the clip to the playhead. (After Effects Alt + [ or ] ) But this involves using the mouse as well to activate the edit point. That's another keyboard shortcut I'm missing (select current clip's in/out edit point). Further googling and searching leads me to believe that there is NO WAY in Premiere to select a clip and use a keyboard shortcut to MOVE it to the playhead, like in After effects (select layer and press [ or ] ). By way of background, I work with a lot of audio. Often the best way (for me) to find where I want to put something is to play the audio and stop it at the exact moment where I want an edit. I would then like to be able to select my clip, and tell it to jump to the playhead. Simple in AE (except working with audio in AE is horrible...thus I have to use PP). Weird that there is no easy way to do this in PP. Part of the problem is also inconsistent terminology, for example, Premiere pro = "playhead" After Effects = "current time". So often I'm just not sure what I should be searching for.

Hi all, I have logged many more hours in AE than PP, and find myself really missing the ALT + [ and ALT + ] shortcuts for "Trim In point or Out point of selected layers to current time"). I'm referring to working on the timeline. I also really like the [ and ] shortcuts in AE for "Move selected layers so that their In point or Out point is at the current time" Are there equivalents in Premiere? Thanks in advance!

I am having the exact same problem. Oddly enough, it was fine until yesterday, when this behavior suddenly started happening. I will need to do some testing to be sure, with a new project, but for now I have to render the audio of the master sequence (OP's "sequence b") every time I open it. And if I edit any of the nested sequences, I have to re-render the whole thing. I am hoping this is a bug!

Hi all, I hope there is a simple answer to this. I have an instructional video that needs LOADS of texts in it. There are about 5 styles of text that are needed, with specific colors and positions. For example, centered lower, upper right right justified, upper left left justified, etc. I want to be able to create presets that contain the font, color, and position, but can't find a way to do it. Saving a "master style" doesn't carry over the position data. I also need to be able to edit the presets and then re-apply those properties if the client changes their mind about the font, color, position, etc (keeping the SOURCE TEXT intact). Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Lori

Thanks, Yairb999's solution works, and I marked it as correct because it matches the best with the normal way I add clips (from the source monitor, then dragging to the timeline). Richard's solution also works, but I didn't know you were able to drag clips to the program monitor. Thanks a million! to both of you.

Thanks, I've already done that. If it would work when I use the track forward tool, it would be perfect! But the tracks move and the markers stay in place. Is there a way to select a little section of video in the source viewer and ripple insert it into the beginning? I have tried this a zillion ways, but the video ends up inserting way down my timeline, even if I have the CTI at the beginning. If I understand correctly, being able to do that should move everything forward as well as the markers when I have "Marker/Ripple Sequence Markers" enabled.

HI Everyone, I need to add about 5 seconds of blank space at the beginning of a sequence. I want all the clips and all the sequence markers to move 5 sec to the right on the timeline. In Vegas (which I've recently moved over from ) this is super simple to do. But I can't find a way to do it in PP (2017, latest release). Track Fwd moves the clips, but not the markers. I've tried inserting clips in the beginning, but am not getting the results I expect. I can't even find a way to select all the sequence markers and move them together (that would be a work around). I am sure there must be something simple that I'm missing...would be grateful for any help. Cheers, Lori

Hi Kevin, It's an intermittent problem, so it's been frustrating to troubleshoot. I actually got on the Adobe chat the other day and shared my screen with the service rep. He deleted the Media Cache folders and then cleared the cache in AE. Since then it seems better, but I'm still getting more crashing/not-responding problems than I had with 2016 (which was pretty darn stable!). I've tried keeping tabs on the system activity, but as I'm usually working hard with deep concentration when this happens, it's not been easy to spot things. When I get the "not responding" problem, it doesn't seem that the CPU or RAM or Discs are maxing out. I don't know how to use the "event viewer" that Mylenium suggested...I can start it, but don't know where to begin to look. I'll get back in here if I find anything useful or definitive. Thanks for your help!

Hi all, Ever since I upgraded to the 2017 release, AE keeps intermittently hanging and "not responding." It doesn't matter what project I'm working on...it happens in all of them, even new ones with just a couple of simple text layers. I don't see any pattern to the behavior...it just suddenly freezes on me. If I wait long enough (a couple of minutes) AE usually recovers and works fine again for another few minutes or so until it happens again. I didn't have this problem with version 2016. System Basics GeForce GTX 1060 (latest drivers) Windows 10 Pro 32 GB Ram Intel 17-3770 SSD drive for OS and Disk Cache (plenty of space) Any ideas where to start troubleshooting? Thanks in advance, Lori

Thanks, Rick! I'm not sure how I would go about solution 1, so I'll have to go with option 2 - total modification! 🙂 The content of the edit is a lot more important than the titles anyway, so better I spend my available time on that rather than goofing around in AE trying to make pretty things 😉 Thanks for the cinematography info! I mostly film run-and-gun documentary footage, but even then try to pan as slowly as possible when I can. I'm in the EU and film mostly in low light situations with a GH2. Cheers, Lori
