When using Pen tool take a look at Options bar. From Path operations drop-down you should have New Layer (Shapes) or Combine Shapes (Path) selected. In parenthesis I have added tool mode which is available from the first drop down list in the options bar where you can choose to draw: Shape, Path or Pixels.

Actions can record almost any action (command from menu) which you can perform in Photoshop. However, to use some command there are always some requirements like: active selection, layer in the Layers panel selected and so on. For example: you can not ask in step to create selection based on layers content if layer does not contains any pixel, it will display error message. Each step in action is individual command but you must ensure in previous step(s) that requirement is met. To fix your issue you must expand action and action steps to see what is recorded, which step is causing error message and if that step or command requires something like pixels on layer then look at previous steps(s) to determine why that requirement is not met.

Your assumption about downsampling images is correct. There are ways to automate process or in other words to batch process images if that's what you mean by more efficient way. You can use Image Processor Pro for that job.

It is possible. With Pen Tool active press Ctrl to switch to Selection tool and click on shape to activate it (if path outline is not visible). Release Ctrl and click with the Pen Tool on the end point then continue clicking to add anchor point or to continue drawing shape. If you have path in Paths panel then click on it to see paths outline, navigate Pen Tool over end point and click once then continue clicking to add more anchor points and to continue drawing path.

If you send me dimensions of all crops (presets) I can try to record that action for you. Just to mention that images which you want to crop must be at least in height and width as longest and highest preset dimensions. Another information that I need is which command you want to use to save images?

It is doable but I would like to ask you some questions: is that action for yourself or for distribution (you are mentioning the user in original post)? If you plan to distribute actions then you must consider flattening, conditional actions or stop to inform user about requirement like only one layer in the file... you are mentioning presets, does presets needs to be specific and what is specific exactly (aspect ratio, specific dimensions...) have you ever used Insert Path and Insert Menu Item from Actions panel menu when recording actions? It will be more difficult to record action for distribution because you must take care for many possible situations = more thinking in essence and different approach.

You can run action while batch processing images. Can you record action in Photoshop? Start recording action and do things as you would do normally to resize image then stop recording action. See screenshot below: check Run Action and specify set with previously recorded action (first drop-down) + recorded action (second drop-down list).

You are correct, C, M, Y and K stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. Those are percentages of CMYK colors which are measured from 0 to 100% while RGB values are represented with numbers 0 to 255. Numbers for RGB values are creating color inside circle or inside square in the middle in your screenshot and those numbers translated to CMYK colors are represented on the right side: C: 4%, M: 28%, Y: 28% and K: 0%.

I realize that after recording video. Try to draw rectangle crop selection after specifying dimensions which must have px after number, do not forget that and tell me how that works. Note: you will have problem when using images with different aspect ratios. To record action for just any aspect ratio of image please watch alternative method (using path) which is posted below.

You must have color swatches in Swatches panel to be able to save them as explained. That's why I am asking where you have created palette. Usually I am creating palette (couple of colors for my project to maintain consistency in colors) in Swatches panel then saving it to Libraries. The very last option, if you have problem with other recommended options and you do not have color swatches in Swatches panel is: open Libraries panel then click on color from your color palette to set it as foreground color. Click on Create new swatch... (page icon in Swatches panel) and save as new swatch. In other words, move all swatches or colors to Swatches panel and then you will be able to save from Preset Manager.

If I can understand your question then use Variables and Data Sets. Variable should be: Text Replacement and you can load text file with all 1000 headlines then to export 1000 files with different text (variable assigned to layer with text and loaded data set) and the rest of composition will be the same for all exported files. Please read this tutorial: Creating data-driven graphics in Photoshop
