Depending on what your mix of colors are, they won't all darken at the same rate. This gets into the arena of color correction. Try using curves instead. or "apply image" with a blending : multiply

I had this happen. It only happened on RGB files. When I turned on "use graphics processor" and "legacy composting" at the same time the problem went away. but note: I am on a mac, (in settings>performance>). The problem only existed when I turned off only one of those settings.

thank you Ged, they figured out it was between the graphics processor and the legacy composting. when I turned them both on, the problem went away. Previously I only had the legacy composting on and the processor off. The other guy at work only had the graphics processor on and the composting off. so when we turned both the processor and the composting on, it solved the problem.

is there a way to report this bug to adobe? it's getting annoying to put a white layer in the file to get the transparency to show up correctly.

the black area has no dot value as if it is actually transparent. . when I put a white layer underneath it is displays properly. I dont use the transparency grid by the way, I find that distracting also. and like I said, this works fine in CMYK mode.

The black area should be transparent. (outlined the image and command J, hide the layers below it). In cmyk it displays as it is supposed to. This is happening on the computers at work and at home running the new photoshop. Older versions work as they are supposed to. work arounds are not needed for this post. putting a white layer underneath makes it display properly, but I would rather have photoshop work properly in RGB mode. any thoughts? system 10.13.6 High Sierra graphics intel Iris 1536 MB Mac mini late 2014 3ghz intel core i7

This is what the jumped layer looks like. there are no dot values outside of the masked area but you can still see it. grrr. this just started since I updated two days ago to photoshop version 20.0.3

when I jump up a selection there are large squared off areas that visually appear on the layer that shouldn't be there. there are no dot values to them but it's distracting to see things that are not supposed to be there. see the screen shot. The model is masked and then command J. the layer shows squared off areas that shouldn't be there. only the selected area should appear on the new layer. This happens any time I command J. even with just a lasso of the area. also the preview doesn't work on the apply image command unless you click it on and off a few times. sigh.. I'm running photoshop 20.0.3 on a Mac. system version 10.13.6

maybe if you use time machine on your Mac you can get your layered file back from an older date. Just a suggestion.

as bob suggests, the best way is..replace the whole face from another photo. There is too much missing detail in her face. you can take a new pic with your phone then in photoshop, strip it in keeping her original hair line that is against the tree and his shirt. then just color correct it to match. we call that the "Frankenstein ". I do it all the time.. lol.

Try “image>apply image” instead of any copy function or command j. . is what I’m saying.

The latest update is 20.0 The new one is "content aware scale". it's under edit menu. shift f6 still gets you to content aware fill. It's also under the edit menu.

are you using "paste in place"? command shift v? mine works just fine. worst case, use the "apply image" command and it'll go right in place always. perfectly.

See where it says "channel", that is what you are loading. "layer 0 Transparency" . If you flatten the image this will no longer be an option.

You are loading the transparency from the layer 0. but You can save that to a channel if you wish. or command click on the layer in the palette... same thing as loading the current layers non transparent pixels. . If you flatten the image the channel will still be there, but the layer 0 transparency will be gone. Use channels to save your selections.

it sounds like you are not using your pen path as a selection. in order to make a path a selection, command click the path. it looks like you're loading the transparency on the layer as a sections. A path selection will be a hard line unless you feather it.

If you liquify for example your dogs head on the RGB layer, the alpha 1 channel will not also liquify unless you select the alpha channel and run the filter again. you can see example 2 the original dog mask has been untouched and will no longer select your entire dog image. example 3 has had the alpha channel liquified using the command control F (for running the last filter used.) alpha channels are just saved selections.. in case you want to reload your selection or flatten your image and be able to keep your selections. otherwise if its on a transparent layer just command click the layer on the palette and it'll select everything that isn't transparent.

if you use liquify on the dog. the alpha channel will not liquify with it, you would have to run the filter again on the alpha channel also. (command, control f) the mask channel is a separate black and white saved selection. If you erase parts of the dog, the alpha will not be affected. the alpha channel is just a saved selection. if your image changes you will have to save a new selection (alpha channel) and delete the old one.

in illustrator, place your grey image under your jersey line art. place red bars on top of grey image set to multiply and then use your jersey as a clipping mask for all the items. clipping mask must be on top of all items.

in photoshop, you can use the rgb image (apply image>using the red channel to get the most contrast) , then use a layer of color set to multiply. or you can assemble the red multiply layer in illustrator and just use masks. You'll have to manually lighten the bottom though. use the pen tool to mask out the darker bottom half and lighten from curves or levels, or apply image using screen mode. Hope that helps.

the "pickup where you left off" screen is super annoying and won't disable either. but fortunately you don't have to hit escape or the red button to close, just ignore it and open your next image from the finder and it'll just self close.

or if they are in a group folder and you aren't using auto select, you must be clicked on the folder to move the whole group. or shift click all the layers in the group. your auto select is on if the checkbox has been checked. and of course you can always link your layers too.. : )
