This topic is from Aug 2024. I doubt very much that the OP is still looking for a laptop. 🙄

I have to wholeheartedly agree that the compatibility vs. current tech/performance issue is real. InDesign is still basically single-core, and no Adobe apps can take full advatange of even my 2020 Threadripper Pro system's capabilities. I've never had to reinstall an OS for performance reasons, though. I have extensive experience with editing the Windows registry, and keep tabs on all processes. I also benchmark my home systems with Passmark pretty regularly, to be sure that nothing is changing. That's not to say that it won't someday be necessary, of course! The Windows 11 installation on my 2020 system was plucked out of my (at the time) dead 2018 system. I got the motherboard on that one repaired and bought a separate Windows 11 license, and resumed use a year and a half later, with nary a hiccup. I have 3 NVME drives on the older system and 11 on the 2020, although 8 of them are in a RAID10. The only real bedrock feature missing from both systems is AVX512. The older one is sometimes better for certain non-Adobe video editing, because of its identical dual GPUs, despite them being a previous generation and only PCI-E 3.

Make custom shortcuts to avoid the whole problem.
Honestly, the menus are full of commands that do the wrong thing if you click the one next to it. Save/Close, just to take a random example. It really isn't realistic to move all that around because you might make a mistake. It's much more important to have similar commands grouped so that it's logical and you know where to find things.

Hi, I couldn't find a forum article on this, maybe I missed it? I have the following permanent problem: I am using Photoshop on a MacBook Pro 16 GB RAM, 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 with macOS Sequuoia 15.3.1 always with the latest Photoshop version. Almost every time I use the Camera Raw filter to process an image, the taskbar stops working. Since I don't know all the keyboard shortcuts, I have to restart Photoshop after every image editing session, which is quite annoying. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Thank you very much, Angela

Export now uses a newer jpeg encoding module which only has 7 steps. "Legacy Export As" is available in Windows and older Macs, but not supported on Apple Silicon.
This needs to be said for anyone else reading this. The file size : image quality ratio for jpeg is a highly moving target, and the final file size depends more than anything on image content. A given size limit will require highly variable compression levels to reach that size. In other words - to get 500 kB, one image may need quality level 2, while another, exactly same pixel size, arrive at that size with quality level 7.
These two are the same size and compression level - the first is 52 kB, the second is 438 kB:
The point is - maybe a fixed size limit isn't the most efficient way to approach this. Maybe it's better to allow some to go under and some to go over, averaging out. And then the number of steps isn't critical anymore, they will correspond more to differences you can actually see.

This is exactly what I did and it doesn't change anything. I can find it in my programs, click on it and confirm and it still shows the older version. Like nothing happened.

I always copy photos onto an external hard drive and onto NAS. Once imported through Lightroom from the HDD, I disconnect the HDD and lightroom tells me photos aren't available. Use the 'relink folder' and select NAS as source. Longwinded maybe but, yes, possible. Have the NAS and PC connected through ethernet cable and works a treat, extremely fast.

Instead of a dropdown, there's a checkbox that says something like "Enable Legacy "Save As""

Agreed. Why have this limit. We pay enough money monthly for the full version and then they limit it. What a rip off. First they get rid of the hugely useful edit players in the app function then limit how many times qe can use the Ai.

There is no bug, and all this is much simpler than some would have it be.
This is what you need:
an embedded color profile in the document. This embedded profile will override the working space in Photoshop.
a valid monitor profile that accurately describes the monitor in its current state.
an application that actually supports color management, and converts correctly from document to monitor color space as defined by the monitor profile.
If you can check these three, the image has to display correctly, by definition.

Several typos. Biggest is I'm using my 14" travel laptop instead of my desktop with two screens, one for the photo and one for my tools.

How can you program a software that can not be uninstalled? I don't have a licence anymore (so can not log into Creative Clouds), I don't want to look in App folders for uninstall codes.. It should be just possible to remove, period. If can not, it's a terrible programming and bad customer approach.

I'd love to share some of my successes and failures, but the system is now telling me that the maximum allowed file size for attachments is 9.79 MB (that's really low). I certainly can't attach my RAW files with that kind of limit ... but I'll try to upload to a file sharing service instead. Sigh.

@Heidi_Lawson2837 try using the Adobe Creative Cloud app uninstaller tool to see if that resolves the issue

Hey Aytaç! Thanks for getting back to me! I dabbled a bit into experimenting with this stuff today again. Sometimes I just hope that it fixes itself hahah. I tried contacting both Apple and Adobe, but as expected from big companies; they didn't reply at all 🙂 I also tried the Apple forums; but no luck either. I still find it hard to believe that this is really a MacOS bug, as I just can't imagine that only a handful of people on the internet are noticing this. Also, lots of friends don't have this problem; but after switching it up between multiple Macs and monitors and calibration tools I don't see what I should try next hahah! I will try your fix, where did you download DisplayCAL for Silicon macs? On their website I only find a version that doesn't work with my MacOS! Hope to hear from you!

I would be looking at upgrading. Apple is aggressively cutting off support for Intel machines and a new Mac Studio will run circles around that old Mac Pro. Your machine still has some resale value but in a couple of years that is likely to drop quite a bit.

Thank you very much for the info MissLiz. This confirms what I found with the Drobo. I found no way to change to NFS and assumed it was because it was an older drobo. Thanks again for your help in understanding what has been happening.

That's fine if your original is a PSD or TIFF, but what if the original is a PNG or jpeg? Then you will overwite the original unless you're very careful.

As Chuck says. Nothing has ever been visible outside the canvas, unless you expand the canvas to include it.
Yes, it's still there, there can be content outside the canvas boundary - but you don't see it.

I would say this is a bug with export as. I've never cared for that feature and still prefer to use save for web. Save for web was suppose to be removed, once Adobe got export as refined — doesn't look like that has hapened or will happe. Any time soon. It sounds like you need a workaround. I've been using Bridge's file export a lot, for multiple files. That way I often don't need to even open PS.

Not weird. Your card is charged monthly - but you make a commitment for a year and can't cancel until the year is up. That's how phone subscription, internet and TV are all billed nowadays too. Even my new prescription eyeglasses follow that model.
There is a month-to-month subscription without the commitment, which is unsurprisingly a bit more expensive.
It's also possible to pay up in full for the whole year.

Just watched a Youtube video about the latest updates in beta for the Hue/Saturation. Adobe is thinking in this direction, so I hope this my suggestion will also be implemented 🙂 Though the topic isn't even "under review", it's a pity.

@c.pfaffenbichler "The neutrality is fairly assumed but the luminance may vary. "
oh, yes indeed. for sure
Using Lab would get around that RGB numbers issue - makes me think about what RGB Photoshop uses when setting the interface via the color picker as I described in the other post, I guess it's fair to presume it’s the default in Color Settings.
