As explained by @Trevor.Dennis, to edit a smart object layer, simply double-click on the SO thumbnail to enter editing mode in a separate tab. However, you won't have a "live preview" of the changes made. The only trick I know is to arrange two tabs using Window > Arrange > 2-up Vertical, and to save changes after modifying the Smart Object content by using File > Save to update changes and see the preview in the parent document. ... I don’t have personal experience with the FF-680W. Keith’s review linked above says the image quality isn’t the best, that the scanner is great if you just need to get a lot of scans done that are good enough for quick family sharing. He says if he wants to scan to create a source for high-quality correction, retouching, and enlargement, he’ll re-scan that original on his Epson flatbed scanner.   His review has some comments about its bulk feeding, pointing out features such as its “Slow Mode” in case there are problems, and also says For delicate prints, there is a transparent carrier ‘wallet’ to put pictures in. Use this for damaged prints where the feed mechanism may have issues or potentially damage your print.   But yeah, I don’t totally trust automatic document feeders too, based on my experience with common office copiers/scanners.   Also, I forgot to mention something earlier about VueScan, in case you’re considering it. Although its main purpose is running scanners, you can also load images into it. So if you already have a scanned image that totally failed with Photoshop Crop & Straighten and you want to see if VueScan can do better, you don’t have to re-scan it. Load the scanned image you already have into VueScan and have it process that file. Below is what it looked like after I loaded into VueScan the screen shot you originally posted, and enabled Multi-Crop. VueScan is already ready to split them up into multiple files. At this point I had not adjusted any of the proposed crops. VueScan seems to mistakenly think that some image groups are the same crop, so I would have to go in there and set up a separate crop for each one, but that won’t take long to fix.     It actually didn’t like the screen shot file as downloaded, I think because it was a PNG. But when I re-saved it as JPEG, it worked fine. I think this is because VueScan expects a file format that would come out of a common scanner, such as JPEG or TIFF. ... View more

I think I know how to upload an image in the Generate Image dialog but I had a frustrating time of it. My expectation is that my result looked as if the reference image was just a suggestion. I'm running Ps 26.2 under MacOS 15.2. It'd be an unfair guess to blame it on your system. My steps to try to reproduce your experience: 1. open Ps 2. press the B key the Brush toolbar appears, even though I haven't opened an image. Oddly, when I tried to record a QuickTime movie, pressing B didn't invoke the Brush tool. Furthering the oddness, when I opened a file while recording Ps, B immediately invoked the Brush tool. Because you’re coming from After Effects, are you looking for the ability to create something like an Essential Graphics MOGRT (motion graphics template)?    There isn’t exactly an equivalent in Photoshop. Currently, the closest equivalent is designing a graphics layout in Adobe InDesign, and saving that as an Adobe Express template. Then, someone using Adobe Express can open that template and adjust specific properties, replace text placeholders, etc. You can lock elements so others can’t change the basic layout of your template.   If instead you’re looking for a way to save time by applying a saved set of graphics properties to layers in Photoshop in one click, then you want to use the Styles panel (if not visible, choose the command Window > Styles). ... Okay, I did find all the legacy arrows, but how to copy to clickboard so I can use it in a text field? By @SSL-ADT   To put a graphic into text is called an “inline graphic” in some applications. I don’t think Photoshop can do that. (Adobe InDesign can.)   If the goal is to add an arrow that flows with the text, then ignore everything about custom shapes and drawn arrowhead options, because Photoshop won’t be able to put a graphic into a type layer.   The best way to do this in Photoshop is to add an arrow glyph from a font that has arrows. The appropriately named Glyphs panel lets you do that. In the demo below this is what I did: 1. In a type layer, click a flashing text insertion point where you want to add an arrow.  2. Open the Glyphs panel (Window > Glyphs).  3. Find an arrow glyph. I found one in the font Wingdings 3. 4. Double-click the glyph you want, and it’s added at the text insertion point. 5. Use the Character panel to make any typographical adjustments to the glyph. I thought the arrow was too high on the line, so in Baseline Shift I used a negative value to move it down a little.     As for the line tool, I do not have one in the toolbox. My toolbox is only half-way full. How can I add some more tools? By @SSL-ADT   You probably don’t need to. By default, the Line tool is grouped with the Custom Shape tool that’s already shown in your screen shot. Click and hold the pointer on the Custom Shape tool and the other tools grouped with it should pop out, including the Line tool.     But again, if you want to put an arrow in text, it looks like the Line tool arrowheads won’t be useful here. ... Larry, thank you for your input, unfortunately Ism not saving photos I have edited, I am trying to import photos from my DSLR's card to a specific location on an external HD.  In PS Elements 2025, I can go to, on my iMac, PSE/preferences/files and change the lication and when I click OK, and get out and come back the new location has been sabed HOWEVER, wen I go to PSE / cameraOrCardReader and change the location and cluck OK amd lravevznd come back the location is the default location and NOT the new location I had entered    hope this was clear   It is frustrating that I have to enter the new loaction everytime   Michsel ... Removed Affinity, Topaz Photo AI, Topaz Gigapixel AI, ON1 Photo Raw and any and every PS related program, plug-in, extensions, preferences etc. Then Creative cloud uninstaller, Creative Cloud Cleaner, installer. Now installed one program after another: the PS crashed because ON1 Resize AI. ON1 recommends to buy program to create plug-in in PS.
