thanks...I'll have to go back and check into this. I'm fifty steps beyond, doing other aspects. I got it to work by starting over with clean doc, but i really want to nail this down. I don't want to deal with it repeatdely. I have 60 books to update. Thanks for your input, I'll come back to it and check it out when i can swing back around.

IT does import, but when placed in the default export apps in InDesign, it is supposed to open automatically after export. I even saw instructional videos about InDesign, wherein the users have it open automatically. I have done it before, and it workled fine. Maybe it's the Kindle Previewer 3 version. I'll have to see if i can get the previous versiona nd test it. As for Thorium Reader, first, I am not looking for an ebook READER, per se. I am seeking a solution to having Kindle PReviewer open after export, as it should. And Thorium is not at all the same. Kindle Previewer is made specifically for Indie Authors to test their books while they are in the formatting and completion of ebook process. The interface works very well for this. The other reason against Thorium, is it does not play well with large monitors. I have to use a large monitor for the type of work I do, plus, i have some visual challenges. Thorium UI does not allow for that, and the app is HUGE, and thus, cannot be navigated. Thanks everyone, foryour input. I'll watch this thread and hope maybe someone knows what the problem might be with auto-opening Kindle Previewer from InDesign.

It's in the default app screen, but it won't open automatically from indesign after export. To open the exported epub file, i have to open the program and import the file manually.

I've spent many many hours researching, trying every suggestion, and have come up empty. Nothing seems to work, now. (I've had this work several times in the past, and wrote it all down, followed it, and it was just fine. And then, sudden;y, it doesnt' work anymore. I've even done the nuclear methods of clearing preferences, uninstalling ID and reinstalling, etc.). I'm trying to update my novel manuscripts by putting them in Indesign for publishing. Been having fits with the gutter and inset settings. I want to avoid the errors in KDPP, when they say there is overset text. I have changed my margins to allow for the space they need by using inset settings. SOmetimes they work, sometimes they don't. I have a template that has all the document settings: margins, 6x9 document, etc. Tried both using a primary text frame in the setup, and not using it. Neither works reliably. Here are my steps to create these documents. (Tried not creating text boxes on parent pages, but making sure doc is set to right ones. Tried creating the text boxes on the parent pages, with the proper settings, and even threading the first box on the facing pages, to the second box on the right of the parent page). But--Auto sizing height and width is on Edited file/document presets with settings I want, and Edited file/document setup Edited object/text frame options to include the inset spacing and gutter with autosizing turned on for all settings above Applied parent page settings to all pages Place/docx file by clicking into first text box on first page (not in parent, in the document), it autoflowed text as expected. But in the document, it ignored the Inset spacing on the right-hand pages. IT seems there ought to be a global selection to apply changes to the entire document, but try as I might, I cannot find a way to do it. Going through a 300 page doc and correcting each frame is a ridiculous waste of time. Can someone PLEASE tell me the secret to addressing this issue?

I've been away from ID for a while, but i need to continue now, and have many manuscripts that need to be converted and formatted in ID. Problem is, what i used to do isn't working anymore. I have files converted/compiled from Scrivener into various formats. I've tried them all. RTF, Doc, Docx, etc. Instructions say to create the ID file, with all the settings, etc, and then PLACE, do SHIFT+click into the first page. Not only does it not autoflow and create pages, it doesn't paste the text AT ALL. Nothing happens. Has something changed with ID? (please, don't tell me to use Word or create books in ID, I use Scrivener. I also have 60 books, and they are already created, so I need a solution that addresses what I'm actually dealing with. Thanks in advance for any help).

Somehow, my transform/resizing handles disappeared when working on a layer, after selecting the layer/image. I wanted them to appear when I clicked on a layer, so I could resize on the working screen. To fix this, Go to your preferences under performance: make sure the legacy compositing box is ticked. (see image). In Preferences/Workspace, also UNTICK the Enable Narrow Options Bar. This allows you to see the Show Transform Controls tick box. (see image). Hope this helps someone.

Just in case this helps anyone...I was having trouble with Photoshop CC freezing up right after i started working on a project. I have to use task manager to close the program. I tried all the usual stuff, including updating PS, removing a secondary older version from 2020, ran virus and maintenance programs, soft booted and hard booted. Unchecked the graphics processor, and everything else i could find on these forums. Even tried five other versions, uninstalling and reinstalling each time. Nothing worked. Had a support chat, and solved that problem, as well as the issue of no longer being able to see the transform/resizing handles on certain images (on a separate layer). So, first, Photoshop freezing: He guided me to reset preferences...To reset, Photoshop and hold control+alt+shift keys together as you open Photoshop. You will see a dialog box to delete settings. Click on Yes to reset preferences and then check if it helps. (I did this through my creative cloud app). Hold the keys even before you open the app and please hold the keys until you see the dialog box. Now go back to preferences>performance and increase the memory usage to 80%. (see image) Click OK and restart Photoshop again to check if it works. For me, it did. He said this was happening because the preferences were corrupted. Hence, we reset them. I will repost this next part in the appropriate area, too, but just as an extra, he managed to help me get my transform/resizing handles back. I wanted them to appear when I clicked on a layer, so I could resize on the working screen. Go to your preferences again under performance: make sure the legacy compositing box is ticked. (see image). In Workspace, he also UNTICKED the Enable Narrow Options Bar which allows you to see the Show Transform Controls tick box. (see image). I saw so many posts about these two issues, and i hope this will solve the problem for someone else, too. I know how it feels to need to get work done, and be halted by this sort of thing. I'm computer savvy, but i find this option so technical and confusing. I downloaded the Exiftool and tried to use it, but it's like Greek to me. Isn't there a more modern, user-friendly way to extract the Bridge keywords from my photos and update my current Bridge version with them? This whole thing seems so difficult and convoluted. Especially for those of us who are not geeks.

this only helps in that it clarifies who's at fault. So now, how do we solve the issue? Is Adobe going to do anything? I'm PAYING for CC and can't use Premiere Pro because of this very thing.

I need some clarity on print novel formatting errors from KDPP. Amazon suddenly started rejecting print manuscripts due to infringement on the gutter by text. (I've never had this issue before). I have always set all the margins and gutter to their specification, but still, the problem persists. I tweaked it enough last time to get the project through, but i have another thirty-two novels of mine that i will be updating in ID, and need to understand why this is happening and how to avoid it. Adobe support has been no help at all on this. They either address something i did not ask, or they condescend by explaining to me what a gutter is. Here's the screenshot from Amazon KDPP and here are my settings. So perhaps the question is, what is the difference between margin/gutter settings AND the text frame that might be on the page? I place my text frames according to the guides created by the settings. Since most of these issues with KDPP seem to be about text infringing on the gutter, even when the page settings are correct, how do I keep this from happening? Don't the guides for the text frames match the appropriate space where text is allowed? If the proper settings won't do it, what will? I appreciate any insight.

thanks everyone...i managed to solve the problem, and hopefully this will help someone else. I noticed i could not drag and drop in windows explorer--and that was a pattern. did some research. Apparently this is a windows 10 bug of some sort. SOLUTION: I did task manager/details found explorer.exe and right clicked to END PROCESS TREE. Then in tass manager, I did file/run new process, typed in "explorer," hit enter, and it reloaded explorer. Then i could drag my files in explorer AND also in indesign.

Laubender--yes, i've been using that workaround, but it creates extra time and inconvenience, and i'd really like to know why the original feature stopped. thanks! Michael Bullo-- as for resetting my preferences--does that mean i have to start over setting everything the way i like it? destroying all those painstaking settings is not really viable for me. any other options?

I'm trying to apply master pages to document by dragging master onto a page layout (done this many time before) but the master page won't drag. Any reason why this feature would suddenly disappear?

I'm all for doing things the right way. That, however, isn't the issue, nor part of the question I asked. If you had said, "No, there isn't a way to globally change the display performance of pasted-images" that would have sufficed. It is a feature i believe ought to be available for time-management purposes when dealing with book manuscripts. I have, AS I SAID, changed the display performance for the whole document. This is, AS I SAID, not addressing the problem. I merely wanted to know if there was a shortcut to globally change the image quality, rather than doing them all one at a time.

This is a manuscript, and when, for instance, doing the interior file for a box set of manuscripts already formatted, the entire thing must be pasted in. That will include all the chapter start graphics and the text-divider graphics. My question concerns how time-consuming and tedious it is to go through a 600 or 800 page manuscript and apply the settings to each graphic one at a time. I was hoping there was a way to globally change all graphics to high quality. Also, I have the default set to high quality in all documents, but when they are pasted in, they don't follow that rule.

I often have to paste in documents of text that have images and i need to be able to globally change the display performance on ALL the images at once. Is this possible? It is tedious to go through a large document and do them one at a time.

UPDATE: i saw a suggestion on the web to hold down CTRL ALT SHIFT keys while opening the program. It asked if i wanted to delete my settings, i said yes, and photoshop loaded. Then i went to windows/my workspace and it loaded up my previous workspace. (At some point i think i selected to save my preferences when i reinstalled, or maybe that wouldn't be the case). Anyway, This worked.

UPDATE. after i posted this, i tried to open Photoshop forum and my browser page froze. my whole computer froze. i had to turn off the power and boot again. i tried again to open ps, with same error message. I tried a suggestion on the only other thread about this i could find--which suggested resetting preferences : RUN/%appdata% and select adobe folder, but i couldn't get that far because that didn't open anything. it asked what program to use to open it. I can't seem to locate this manually either, by opening the adobe folder.

When i tried to open Photoshop CC, i got an error that it could not, because some file HAD BEEN DELETED. Using Cretive Cloud interface, i updated and tried again. Another error. I uninstalled it, and reinstalled it via CC and got the error about an end of file. what's going on?

I believe I've done all of that, and tested it. still those two pages are missing. Here are the screenshots of my settings, and i think the frames show they're already connected...oh and EPUB Validator (beta) Results Detected version: EPUB 2.0.1 Results: Congratulations! i am using ID CC, setting up epub of my book. When i exported to epub and view it in icecream epub viewer, the copyright page (in the last few iterations) has vanished. Like a phantom. I can make no sense of this. What i was doing before this happened: the tiny symbol (c) at the top had a style applied to it, (so that i could get that page to start on a separate page, in other version) and i decided to get rid of the symbol graphic and just use some kind of text there. I applied the new style, which was the same as all my other chapter headings that break to the next page just fine, and since i did that, the copyright page does not show up AT ALL in the epub file. It's just gone. I did this again, checking all the settings, and the same thing happened. Anyone know how this could happen? Below are the screenshots of my settings. ADDENDUM: i also noticed the Before Words (author's note) is also gone. these are both pages that had headers with an applied style which i changed to match the style of the chapter headings, since i couldn't get the other styles to work. i wonder if that might be a clue somehow.

I tried what you said, and it simply did not work for me. My chapter titles were butted up under the last line in the previous chapter. I selected the style for digital chapters when i did this, and the split function. in ereader, it does not show the chapters beginning on the next page. Any idea why this isn't working? I'm using ID CC.

okay, still having trouble making this one work. I figured out how to get the graphic to look the way i want it, using contour/detected edges: I just used the arrow keys to refine the position. But now, i still have the same problem with the image not being anchored to that exact location with the text, no matter what else changes in the document. I don't see any selection in ANCHORED OBJECT OPTIONS to anchor that image to the TEXT instead of the frame. I know there must be a way to do this properly. UPDATE: okay, so apparently i have to use the text tool to select the area i want the graphic and do EDIT>PASTE ....then i can use arrow keys to bring graphic down into text the same way. which means i have to do this for every chapter in the book, but at least next time i'll only have to do this to each chapter ONCE.
