This issue has been fixed and you can test it in public beta right now. We have implimented a "Save As" dialog instead of just a simple location picker which we had before. This allows you to set the name in the same step as choosing the location including the ability to click on a previous file to copy the name. We ususally don't promise when a fix will be released, but I can say that we intend to get this into the very next patch release since this is causing such a headache for so many people. Many appologies for the inconvenience.

We made some adjustments to the watermark. We felt the watermark was too prominant and distracting so we removed the blue box and dropped the opacity. Most of the time you shouldn't notice it while editing, but if you look for it, it's there. Any feedback is welcome.

The new Fade Position slider lets you adjust the position of fades when applying Auto Ducking.
Ducking is a great feature of the Essential sound panel that allows you to automatically reduce the level of music when dialog is present (or any other combination of audio types). This is a common task when balancing audio and it can take a long time when done by hand. Auto ducking automates this process and does this for you very quickly. But to make the fade sound really smooth it’s common to have the music fade overlap with the dialog a bit. Now, this can be automated too.
With the Fade Position slider, you can choose where you want the background audio fade to land in relation to the dialog – outside the dialog, inside, or in the middle.
Of course, you can manually adjust the results of individual fades after performing Auto Ducking, but this way you can get closer to what you need faster.

Thank you for the fast feedback! It's very helpfull. The reason we didn't go with the word PROXY is for localization. We'd like a visual solution that works across all languages.

The audio issues you raise are also very valid concerns and we are working on those as well. We want to provide an option to match the audio channelization of the original which should take care of the audio issues you mention.

The watermark burn-in is completely optional. I like your idea of a virtual watermark overlay. We've talked about that as well. Having the permanent watermark is completely unambiguous and there is no potential for confusion. But I also completely agree that if you want to export your proxies (a totally valid workflow for many reasons) you probably don't want the watermark burned in. That's why it's optional at the proxy creation stage.

@Kes Akalaonu thanks for the feedback. We feel the same way! FWIW I have been editing with this setup for a few months now and like it a lot . . . even on a larger monitor.

There is a new workspace called “Essentials” that can be accessed by clicking the workspace switcher icon in the top right-hand portion of the header bar.
Essentials workspace
The new Essentials workspace offers a clean and simple layout, makes better use of space and is ideal for editors working on laptops or lower resolution displays.
The panels have been rearranged according to a new left-to-right workflow. Find content on the left, edit and view work in the center, and adjust properties on the right.
This is the new default workspace after a clean install or after resetting preferences.
Project panel, Effects, Libraries, Text. This is where you inspect content that you need to add to your sequence.
The Source and Program monitor are docked in the same panel and switch automatically as needed. This gives the appearance of a single monitor layout, but don’t worry, we did not get rid of the source monitor. This is a much better use of space especially on small displays.
Effects controls, Lumetri Color, Essential Graphics, Essential Audio, Metadata. All the panels needed for core workflows are docked in the same panel. This reduces the need to switch workspaces when moving through the different stages of work (color, audio, graphics, etc.) You can think of this area as the place you adjust properties.
A nice big timeline 🙂
A few questions for the beta community
How do you like the experience of editing without the source monitor always visible?
Does the automatic switching of Source and Program work for you and your editing style?
Are you able to achieve all the key workflows without switching workspaces(editing, color, audio, graphics) ?
When would you choose to switch to a different workspace and why?
Do you still think the Learning workspace should be the default?
We want to know what you think. Please join the conversation below.

Proxy Indication: Proxy Badge in Timeline
We’ve improved the ability to determine the state of proxies in your project!
Quick proxy recap:
What is a proxy?
A proxy is a low-resolution version of your video file used for the editing process
Why create proxy?
To have a lightweight version of media assets that is fast to play back!
How do I create a proxy?
Project Panel: Right click on clip or multiple clips in the project panel –> Proxy –> Create Proxy
OR
Project Panel –> Media Browser –> Click the wrench to the right of the Ingest check box to open Ingest Settings –> Find “Create Proxies” in the drop down menu.
The proxies automatically attach to source clips upon creation.
Learn more about proxies in Premiere Pro on our Helpx page on proxies.
***NEW in Beta Now***
Proxy Badge on Clips w/ Proxy in the Timeline
As of Premiere Pro Beta 22.5 build 008, upon creation of the proxy, you can now tell the state of the proxy for each clip by referring to the proxy badge on the clip(s) in the timeline.
The icon states are as follows:
Grey Icon if there is proxy attached and Toggle Proxies off
Blue Icon if there is proxy attached and Toggle Proxies on
Red Icon if proxy is offline (i.e. renamed or deleted).
No Icon if no proxies were ever created or proxies were detached.
The badges will appear by default upon proxy creation. To turn these off, you can deselect “Show Proxy Badges” in the sequence’s wrench menu.
Watermark: Added to proxies at creation
We’ve made it easier for users to add watermarks to their proxies.
This handy feature is in the “Create Proxies” and Ingest “Project Settings” dialog(s). Adding watermark will be off by default, but once checked it will be sticky for future use.
There will be a visible watermark in the lower left corner of the frame. This is only on the proxies. When proxy playback is turned off, there will be no watermark present on Original Camera assets.

Thanks for your insights. We've defintely identified that it's related to audio. You can roll back to 22.2 by following these steps here https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html. Or if you are comfortable giving it a try, the fix is live in public beta right now. You can install that from the creative cloud desktop app. Look for the Beta Apps section. It's open to everyone; no need to be invited.

Just want to let everyone know that the fix is in public beta now. Windows was available this morning and Mac is available now. Check for updates in Creative Cloud Desktop - 22.5 build 3. Project files are compatible between beta and the release version so if you are stuck and need to get a project done, this is a good option. We will roll the fix into an official release soon.

For some users, playback or rendering may stop around 00:34:46:00 in the timeline. After this happens, audio and video will no longer play back anywhere in the timeline. Exports in Premiere Pro and Media Encoder also hang at about the same point.
This issue is fixed in Premiere Pro version 22.3.1.
