Thank you for your patience, @YvetteK while I followed up with the product team. I understand this has been a time-consuming process, and I appreciate your continued cooperation.
Here’s what I’ve learned from the product team:
1. We do handle clip Path differently. That is as designed. Instead of:
<defs> <rect id="SVGID_1_" width="474.3" height="589.6"/> </defs> <clipPath id="SVGID_00000068645000764953185200000016609319239509951140_"> <use xlink:href="#SVGID_1_" overflow="visible"/> </clipPath> <g clip-path="url(#SVGID_00000068645000764953185200000016609319239509951140_)"> ... </g>
we use
<defs> <clipPath id="clippath"> <rect class="st0" x="59.19" y="131.05" width="474.27" height="589.61"/> </clipPath> </defs> <g clip-path="clippath"> ... </g> 2. Functionally, there is no difference. However, the newer version is supposed to be more compliant with the SVG spec and more compatible with embedded SVG viewers.
That said, since this is affecting your workflow, the product team would like to understand if there’s a specific compatibility issue with another application you’re using. While the general structure won’t be reverted, knowing more about the impact might help us explore potential solutions.
Please let me know, and I’ll be happy to assist further! Best,

Hi @defaulth6mr28fadwdg,
I understand how challenging it must be to lose hours of work, and I can imagine how frustrating this situation is.
As Monika mentioned — and she’s absolutely right — recovery files are helpful but shouldn’t replace regular backups. That said, I’m here to help you recover what we can.
I received your DM with the .aid recovery file link, but the link is currently set to private. Could you please update it to the public so I can access it and explore possible recovery options?
We’ll do our best to help you get your work back. Looking forward to your response. Best,

Thanks for sharing the file, @Janice31147844a81r.
Since you mentioned encountering issues when exporting PDF files for print, could you share more details about the problem? Understanding what’s happening with your PDF exports might help us find a better solution.
Regarding image exports, increasing the PPI will naturally increase both the resolution and file size, which is expected. If you want to maintain the original resolution and a smaller file size, you have to export at 72 PPI.
Also, please update to Illustrator 29.3.1 and try exporting PDF files for print again. If the problem continues, please share your observations.

Hi @mareikeFR,
Monika brought up an interesting point about initial colors, which is a good place to check.
It looks like the darker tone you’re seeing is due to the opacity settings of your gradient stops. Since some of your stops are at 40% opacity, adding a new stop resets its opacity to 100%, which can create an unexpected shift in the gradient. If you use gray at 100% opacity from the start and continue working with it, you should no longer see the dark transition.
Also, in this specific case, the Content-aware default settings don’t influence how the Freeform Gradient behaves, so that won’t need any further adjustments.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you need further clarification! Best,

Hi Lucia,
Thanks for sharing the SVG. I see how this could be unexpected. When saving as SVG, if the image extends beyond the artboard, it may not retain the scaled transformation as expected.
Could you try adjusting the artboard size to cover your image fully before saving it? You can do this by selecting the image and going to Object > Artboards > Fit to Selected Art or Fit to Artwork bounds. This should help the SVG maintain the correct scale when opened in other apps.
Let me know if this helps or if you’re seeing something different!

Hi @blue_9429,
I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I understand how concerning it must be to encounter this issue, especially with an important project at stake.
As Monika mentioned, this can sometimes happen if the file wasn’t saved completely—perhaps due to an interrupted save, an incomplete file transfer, or if Illustrator was forcefully closed during the process.
Did you check if the file opens in Acrobat (if saved with PDF compatibility) and try saving it with a different name. Additionally, disabling “Save in Background” in Illustrator’s Preferences under File Handling could help prevent similar issues in the future.
That said, I’d be happy to take a look and attempt a recovery. You can upload the file to WeTransfer, Google Drive, or Dropbox and share the link here or via DM if it’s confidential.
Let me know how it goes!

Hi @GregorTa,
Thanks for sharing those details! The large file size is definitely a factor here. When saving an Illustrator file, Illustrator also generates a PDF-compatible version by default, which can significantly slow down the process, especially with very large files like yours.
Could you try unchecking “Create PDF Compatible File” in the Save As dialog and see if that speeds up the saving process? This should help reduce the file size and improve performance.
Let me know if that makes a difference!

Hi @Noobie Kuan,
That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially with the impact on your workflow. I see that you’ve already done some troubleshooting. Thanks for confirming your Illustrator version as well.
To better understand what’s happening, could you share a screen recording demonstrating the freeze? It would also help to know where your files and linked images are stored—are they on your desktop, a network drive, an external drive, or a server?
Additionally, could you try launching Illustrator in Safe Mode and working on a file locally (without an internet connection and without opening any other apps) to check if any third-party interference might be causing the issue? This can help rule out conflicts with external factors.
Looking forward to your response so we can narrow this down!

Hi @Agency28877967fe2f,
That does sound inconvenient. If you have already enabled Scale Strokes & Effects in Preferences but find that it gets unchecked unexpectedly, this could be due to:
1. Sometimes, Illustrator preferences get corrupted. Try resetting your Illustrator preferences (https://adobe.ly/4i7uEmD) and enabling the Scale Strokes & Effects again.
2. Check if this happens in all new documents or just specific ones.
Let us know if the issue persists after resetting preferences!

Hi @Janice31147844a81r,
I haven’t come across similar cases before. Could you confirm if you selected 72 PPI and checked “Use Artboards” while exporting? That should help retain the original image size.
If the issue persists, please share your .AI file and the exported image via Google Drive or a similar service. We’ll take a look and try to understand why this is happening.

Hi @Ruby5EB4
I tested this on my end and was able to replicate the same behavior—when exporting artboards as AI files via Export for Screens, the artboard name appears twice in the filename (e.g., icon1_icon1.ai).
I’ll check with the product team to confirm whether this is expected behavior or if there’s a way to prevent it. I’ll update you as soon as I have more details!

Hi @joegillibrand,
I see what you mean—the Free Distort tool still relies on an older dialog-based workflow, which can feel a bit outdated, especially compared to more modern, real-time transformation tools. Having a live, on-canvas version of it would definitely make adjustments more intuitive and contextual.
If you haven’t already, I’d recommend sharing this as a feature request on Illustrator UserVoice (https://adobe.ly/4hACvJv). That’s where the product team tracks and considers user feedback for future updates.

Hi @Mike32232381ugye,
From what I’ve observed, Illustrator’s Proof Setup always defaults to CMYK, regardless of whether you select a WEB preset when creating a new document. I tested this behavior across multiple versions from 2019 to 2025, and it has remained consistent. I can’t comment on versions before 2019, but this seems to be how the feature has worked for a while.
Even if you save a file with a different Proof Setup, when you reopen it, Illustrator will revert to Working CMYK. This is not the most efficient behavior, as it ideally should remember your last selection.
If this behavior just started for you recently, could you confirm which version of Illustrator you’re using? Happy to explore further if something changed in a recent update!

Hi @vika_6116,
That sounds really unexpected! Just to clarify, was the file opened in Photoshop by accident?
As this is a Cloud Document, have you checked the Version History to see if an earlier version with separate layers is available? (https://adobe.ly/3Qp7P1T)
If possible, could you share the file with us? We can take a look and see if there’s a way to restore your layers.

Hi @oriol_8149,
I’ve translated your query, and from what I understand, you’re referring to the Image Trace feature, which is called Vectorize in the iPad version of Illustrator. If you’re looking for a way to convert bitmap images to vectors, vectorization from photos to vector already exists in Illustrator on the web.
Here’s a screenshot—could you confirm if this is what you’re referring to?
Looking forward to your thoughts! Best,

Hi @solihina19525466,
That sounds frustrating, especially since you’ve never installed a Wacom driver before. In some cases, Illustrator relies on the Wacom driver for pen pressure functionality, even for third-party tablets like VEIKK.
I’d recommend installing the official Wacom driver from their website and checking if that resolves the issue. Some users have found that this helps enable pen pressure when other drivers don’t fully integrate with Illustrator.
Let me know if that works for you!

Hi @ElaborateBeast,
I understand how frustrating it must be to deal with constant crashes, especially when it disrupts your workflow. Thanks for detailing everything you’ve already tried. That really helps narrow down potential causes.
Would you mind providing the following details to better understand and address the issue?
System Specifications: Can you confirm whether you have connected any external devices (monitors, styluses, etc.) while using Fresco?
Crash Dumps: When Fresco crashes, it generates crash dump files that can help diagnose the issue. Please navigate to:
C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Packages\Adobe.Fresco<app id>\AC\Dumps
If possible, upload these files to Dropbox, Google Drive, or a similar service and share the link here.
Additional Information:
• Are there specific tools or actions (brush type, layer adjustments, etc.) that seem to trigger the crash?
• Does this happen in both new and existing documents?
• Have you noticed any patterns in when the crashes occur?
If the issue is reproducible, a screen recording of the crash along with a sample file would be very helpful for investigation.
These details will allow us to escalate this more effectively and work toward a solution. We appreciate your patience and cooperation!

Hi @Linda.R.Smith, @Ajlouny, @Beep Sparrow, and @david_6755,
Thanks for reaching out and sharing your experience. We’ve seen similar reports of linked or placed images rotating unexpectedly, and we understand how frustrating this can be—especially when working with a large number of images.
To help us investigate further, could you share the following details?
• Does this happen with all images or only certain formats (JPEG, PNG, etc.)?
• Are the affected images taken directly from a smartphone, or have they been edited/saved in another app before placing them in Illustrator?
• If possible, could you share a sample Ai file along with images where this issue occurs?
• Your system specs (OS version, CPU, GPU, RAM) and whether this happens consistently across different documents. • A screen recording of the issue would also be incredibly helpful in diagnosing the problem.
We want to ensure this is properly escalated to the product team for a fix. Looking forward to your response!

Hi @Darkcat Studios,
Thanks for bringing this up! We’ve seen similar reports from other users, but so far, we haven’t been able to replicate the issue on our end. This has also been reported on UserVoice, and I’d recommend upvoting and adding your experience there for any updates: https://adobe.ly/4k9j8cj.
From what we’ve seen, the issue seems to have started with v29.2.1, as the first report came in on Feb 3, and v29.3 was released on Feb 12. To help us log this directly with the product team, could you please share the following details?
• Does this happen with all files or only specific image formats like JPG or PNG?
• Can you share some sample Ai files along with images where this occurs?
• What are your system specs (CPU, GPU, RAM)?
• A screen recording of the issue would also be really helpful for investigation.
We’d love to investigate this further and address it. I look forward to your response! Best,

Hi All,
I understand how frustrating it can be to lose work, especially after hours of effort. While Illustrator has an Auto-Save feature for Cloud documents and a recovery mechanism for unexpected crashes, it doesn’t function the same way as Auto-Save in some other applications. Illustrator’s auto-recovery feature only works if the application crashes unexpectedly and gets tuned off for complex files for better performance.
If your file was saved to the Cloud, try checking Adobe Creative Cloud documents to see if an earlier version is available. If the file is local, you can search for temporary recovery files.
For those experiencing frequent crashes or missing files, it may help to:
• Turn off “Save in Background” (Preferences > File Handling)
• Manually save regularly using different file versions (v1, v2, etc.)
• Consider external backup solutions, such as Time Machine, OneDrive, or Dropbox
While Illustrator’s recovery system works under specific conditions, having multiple backup strategies in place is always a good safeguard.

Hi @cash_2184,
Thanks for sharing the details! I understand how important it is to maintain the original font encoding. This happens because Illustrator isn’t a full-fledged PDF editor but rather a vector design tool. Also, Illustrator processes text differently from Acrobat or InDesign, which can sometimes lead to changes in font encoding when saving as a PDF.
One way to retain the original appearance is to outline the text before exporting. If further text editing isn’t needed, you can select all text (Ctrl + A / Cmd + A), go to Type > Create Outlines, and then save it as a PDF.
Let me know if this helps or if you’d like to explore other options!

Hi Didier Mazier,
You’re right—the editing functionality has been removed from Retype. The tool now focuses solely on helping you identify hard-to-find fonts in images.
With Retype, you can easily identify fonts used in static text or outlined text from raster images. Once you spot a font you like, take a photo of it, import it into Illustrator, and let Retype search through over 30,000 Adobe Fonts and your local font library to find the closest match.
Hope that clears things up! Let me know if you have any more questions. Best,

Hi @NinaRa,
It sounds like you’re looking to enable more placing options, specifically for photos and Creative Cloud. To clarify, the Creative Cloud option has reached its end of life, as the Creative Cloud File service has been discontinued, so it is no longer an option in recent versions of the app.
However, you can enable the Photos option by following these steps:
1. Go to your iOS Settings.
2. Navigate to Apps > Adobe Fresco.
3. Under Photos, make sure to select Add Photos instead of None.
If you don’t see that option, as you have a Teams account, I recommend reaching out to your admin to contact Adobe support through the Admin Console.
Let me know if this helps!

Thanks for sharing the details and files via DM, @YvetteK. I’ve shared them with the product team, and here’s what they’ve shared so far:
Regarding your AI file: We will need to investigate this further and get back to you.
SVG code format choice: The team is working on providing a UI option to choose the SVG code format.
Large file sizes and rasterization issues: We are currently addressing this with the new UI, which will allow us to specify the rasterization format and resolution. In the meantime, you can try the following steps to avoid large file sizes: • Go to Asset Export. • Under Format Settings, select the JPG 80 tab. • Disable the “Embed ICC Profile” option. This should help with the file size issue. For PNGs, this should not apply.
Background image shifting: This is likely caused by the Decimal Places setting in the SVG Options dialog. Try setting it to a value greater than 2. We’ve also discovered an older issue with the ALT+S keyboard shortcut, causing issues with decimal places. If you encounter this, use File > Save As for now, and we’re working on a fix.
Let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance. We’re here to help you through this!

Hi @stitchsds & @Thomas Böttiger,
Thanks for sharing these details! The product team has investigated this but hasn’t been able to reproduce the issue when selecting SVG 1.1 in Illustrator 29.x. Could you clarify if the original document was created with SVG 1.1 in Illustrator 28.x?
We did find one way to reproduce a similar issue:
Create a new document.
Draw a shape.
Go to File > Save As.
In SVG Options, select SVG Profile: SVG 1.0.
Close the document.
Open the generated SVG.
Draw another shape.
Press CMD+S (Save).
If this matches your workflow, let us know! Additionally, if possible, please upload the original Illustrator (.ai) file to Google Drive and share the link here. That would help us investigate further.
Looking forward to your response!
