Hi, If you open multiple files and select Automation/Photomerge, you will be shown multiple options for the merge. If you are working on a file that you have made changes to and then open other files and attempt to do Photomerge, the file that was worked on will make Photoshop ask you to save this file before it continues with the Photomerge action. Hi, I am sorry to hear that. Do you have any backups, like a TimeMachine or Carbon Copy Cleaner, something that is backing up your data? Hi, My appologies for not understanding your issue.  I have been able to open a file in Ps, select and copy a layer, then open another file and paste that layer, open another file and paste the layer again.  Is this what you are trying to do? Hi, I did read your original post that you had issues while saving locally, but you seemed to still be saving with spaces or other characters in the file name. I would suggest that you: Save for Web with no spaces or characters other than an underscore pick a different location other than where the origianl or similar files are, for testing See if you still get this error. Trying to eliminate the charcater issue as well as the similar file names in the same location issue. Hi, It could be that they are confused with this.. " Desktop and mobile apps WHAT OPERATING SYSTEMS ARE SUPPORTED For optimal performance with Creative Cloud apps, we recommend you keep the operating system of your computer or mobile device up to date. For desktop apps, use no earlier than two versions back of Windows or macOS. For mobile apps, use no earlier than the previous version of iOS or two versions back of Android."   As you can see, Android is listed for mobile apps, but NOT desktop.  For desktop apps, i.e. Photoshop, the only two OS are Mac and Windows.
