I just want to verify something I am seeing in Captivate 2107. Not sure if this happened earlier versions. Are advanced actions the only way to put actions on a button that will not change Captivate's play state (playing or paused)? I tried to describe the problem below but it is a little abstract, so here is a Captivate file as an example to help: Dropbox - actions_VS_advancedActions.cptx If I add a Smart Shape or Button to the stage and check the "Use as Button" option, then depending on which action I choose, I can get the "Continue Playing the Project" option. I also get the "Pause After" option on the timing tab. I am using the Hide and Show actions and they both have the "Continue Playing the Project" option. So a button can either stop Captivate from playing by having a pause added to it under timing or by clicking on it when the "Continue Playing the Project" option is UNchecked. Conversely a button can make Captivate begin playing if the "Continue Playing the Project" option is CHECKED. I cannot hide something, while using a button and regular actions, and have it only hide something, without either pausing or playing the movie. If I want the object to be hidden regardless if Captivate is playing or paused AND I want Captivate to remain in what ever play or pause state it is in, buttons and regular actions iare not going to work. Buttons, with regular actions, either have to pause or play Captivate. Whereas, if I assign a button to execute an advance action, I enter the hide action in Advanced actions, and I do NOT check the "Pause After" option under timing, and I do NOT add a continue command in Advanced actions, the button will now work independent of Captivate's play state. Captivate can be playing or paused and when the button is clicked, the object will hide and Captivate will either continue to play, or remain paused. Am I missing something? Or are advanced actions the only way to put actions on a button that will not change Captivate's play state (playing or paused)?

Did you copy and paste the CC text from Word? I have found that pasting from Word sometimes adds extra formatting to the text which, on publish, really hoses the CC. If you did paste from Word, I would delete the CCs with issues, paste the word text into notepad or textedit and conver the document to plain text, copy the plain text and then paste back into the CC of Captivate.

Brackets is good! You could also use Dreamweaver. Both have options to search and replace across multiple files. Here is a link to a video that goes through how to do that with brackets: Brackets Editor Find & Replace Exclusion Sets | CSS Snippets , at 5:40 she talks about multiple files. Just be sure you have tested all your search and replace "terms" on one lesson and ensure that it opens and works as expected before doing in bulk.

If all of your published lessons are HTML5, you can open the CPM.js and search and replace the fonts. Lilybiri, I do have a gap of a couple of frames at the beginning and end of my audio on each frame. A fun feature of Captivate on a Mac - the "ruler?" of the timeline will often go blank. There are times I cannot see the time, other times I cannot even see the tick marks. My slides average 30 seconds-ish. This one in particular is 22.7 seconds long. I get that the audio is being loaded on each slideEnter, I just cannot figure out why, on an iPad, the player begins playing before the audio is ready... Patch: Are you sure that patch is for Macs? I do not see any update notification when I select "Updates" under the help menu. Thanks!

You could try over-riding the CSS that Captivate creates by adding the font-family: typekit font, fallback font 1, sans serif !important to the CSS. I have been testing some of our lessons on an iPad using a bandwidth limiter to see how they perform on slower connections. One thing I am consistency seeing is that audio becomes out of synch with the captivate timeline. It seems to delay the audio for 2-3 seconds before the audio plays. But the timeline begins to play during that delay. This throws off our carefully timed slides. All my audio is on the timeline for the slide, NOT and event audio attached to an object. This is Captivate 2017 on a Mac, version 10.0.0.226 I do not see any lags on a fast connection on the iPads I do not see any appreciable delay on my desktop computer, even when I have throttled its bandwidth down to the same amount. I am throttling my bandwidth down to typical 3G connection speeds using Apple's Network Link Conditioner app. I have put in some JS and I can see the current frame changing during those 2-3 seconds before the audio begins to play. I have also put in a smart shape and animated it from the beginning of the audio, I can clearly see it moving for a couple of seconds before I hear the audio. Any ideas what's going on, or a fix? Also, be wary of multistate button on mobile devices, I have found that when you have a KC or Quiz slide, the buttons go wonky, they quit working as expected. See this post: Knowledge Checks disabling custom buttons on iPads

You are experiencing the long click. It is set to toggle between play/pause in the Captivate player. You can either turn off ALL the gesture controls: Window --> Mobile Palette OR After publish you could edit the CPM.js file to disable just the long click: find: cp.m_gestureHandler.enabled&&cp.toggleMoviePlayPause() and replace with: /*cp.m_gestureHandler.enabled&&cp.toggleMoviePlayPause()*/ If you change the CPM.js, dont' forget you need to do this every time you publish!

Script to tell Captivate to goto a certain slide number? yep, there is! window.parent.cpCmndGotoSlideAndResume=X; Where X is the slide number you want to jump to. But I don't understand why the play button for the OAM would be on another slide? You could hide it when it is not needed, or only put it on the timeline of the slide with the OAM.

Leaving score aside, is there a way to set up a pass or fail based on reaching a particular slide? In your publish settings, under reporting, you can select Incomplete --> Complete then use some JavaScript on the particular slide On Enter action: SCORM_CallLMSSetValue('cmi.core.lesson_status', 'completed'); SCORM_CallLMSCommit(); So whenever a user hits this slide, the lesson will send a completed status to the LMS. Be sure to make sure your lesson logic is sound and users cannot skip slides with the next button or use the menu to jump over content you want the to see. You might need to change your question types to Knowledge Checks so they will not count as a quiz and the lesson try to report the score when the quiz is complete.

Is this happening on the first play of the lesson, or when the user resumes a lesson (exits the lesson and then relaunching the lesson and the LMS tells the Captivate player to resume at the last completed slide)? I sometimes see objects that are marked to display for the rest of the project not load on resume, but then show up on the next slide and there after.

Here a link to an example file: Dropbox - AnimationControlExample.cptx Preview the project in HTML5 browser and use the developer console to explore the resulting HTML. If you nameed the animation object "Animation01" in the properties panel, the resulting iFrame id is usually "myFrame_Animation01c". So the javascript would be "document.getElementById("myFrame_Animation01c").contentWindow.exportRoot.play();" This can be on a button or as part of an advanced action, or anywhere you can run a javascript in Captivate.

Lilybiri I have seen your tutorials on micro nav, very helpful. I think the issue the original poster and I both had was that we had actions on Enter Slide, which is not triggered when you send the playhead back to the first frame of the slide.

if you are using Adobe Animate, And know the name of the iframe that is created by Captivate, one line of code to stop: document.getElementById($(this).attr("id")).contentWindow.exportRoot.stop(); to start: document.getElementById($(this).attr("id")).contentWindow.exportRoot.play(); go to and play frame 300 document.getElementById($(this).attr("id")).contentWindow.exportRoot.gotoAndPlay(300); Basically you are targeting the iFrame content created for the web object (animation), exportRoot is a method to access the animation from the document level.

What I do is have a one frame long slide at the beginning of my captivate and bounce off of that back to the slide I want users to go to. You can do that by setting a var before you go to slide 1 and on enter slide 1 goto the slide you want. Need to set up some logic to make sure users who are entering the lesson for the first time just pass on to slide 2. You also need some logic to help with when users resume the lesson, by that I mean leave and the resume at a bookmarked location. I do the same thing, bounce off slide 1 to make sure all the javascript and advanced actions are set up before the user starts view the lesson. Sorry, I am walking out the door for vacation or I would put in some example code.

I have been trying to publish one of my lessons and every time I did, Captivate would crash during the “Generating Slides” phase of publishing. I did a lot of deleting of content and hiding slides until I came to looking at the problem slide and its Closed Caption text: Note the bullets in the CC text. Once I removed them, the lesson published successfully. ISSUE: Captivate crashes during publish. POSSIBLE CAUSE: Bullets or other special characters in the closed caption text. FIX: Remove special characters.

According to the documentation, if your users are interacting with the site before coming to the lesson, the audio should play. A gotcha would be if you have a direct link to a lesson and users do not get to interact with the LMS before hand.

Yep, this is being caused by having Self-Paced Learning CHECKED. Luckily we are using an LMS, so we can turn this off and everything works. But if you are creating stand-alone lessons, this is still a bug.

HTTP 400 Error (Bad Request – Request Too Long) Issue in Captivate Lessons We have found a bug in Adobe Captivate on lessons that have 40+ slides in them. Once the user has viewed around 40 slides or so, they begin to get HTTP 400 Error (Bad Request – Request Too Long) errors on slides when video, audio or web-objects are being loaded. This error has been reproduced in Safari on a Mac, in Safari on an iPad Pro and in Chrome on an iPad Pro. This error is usually caused by corrupt cookies. In our tests, if we experience this issue we can exit the course, clear the site’s cookies and re-enter the lesson and everything will be working again, until we view another 40 slides or so. These 40 slides can be previously viewed slides or newly viewed slides. The desktop version of Chrome will save the data in the value half of the name/value pair and leave the name half empty. In Safari desktop and on the iPad browsers, they treat the data coming in as the name half of the name/value pair (see screen shot below). So every time the Captivate lesson sends data to document.cookie, these browsers are saving the data as a new cookie. Hence the large amount of duplicated data seen above. And this is what is causing the 400 error. I've submitted a bug report. Anyone else seen this?

After doing some tracing, it looks as if every time I push the button, after arriving at the KC slide , the button is firing twice. If I go back to the KC and then forwards again, the button fires 3 times. Every time I hit the KC slide, after that the button gets another instance of the button even when its clicked.

I have found an unusual issue, might be a bug. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this issue before? This only shows up when viewing the lesson on the iPad. I am publishing to HTML5 It is a non-responsive project, a fixed size. I am using Captivate 2017 on a Mac The Captivate file: There are some content slides with text, audio and images, then I have a Knowledge check slide, then more slides with text, images and audio. I have made my own movie controls, the default playbar is turned off The pause/play button is one button that has 2 states, pause and play. There is a variable and advanced actions to pause/play the movie and to switch from one state to the other. The movie pauses at the end of each slide, there is a next button to move to the next slide and a previous button to go back. What is happening: Everything works great until the user hits the Knowledge Check page. The pause/play button is hidden on this slide. Then when the user moves away from the KC slide the play/pause button appears. But the button no longer functions. As I tap it, it no longer switches states or pauses/plays the movie. If I tap it enough, sometimes it will pause the movie, but does not always switch states. It will not play the movie again, if it had paused it. Again, this works fine on the desktop, its only on iPads that this issue happens. Thanks!

This thread answered my question. Make Captivate play again after pausing - with Javascript Which basically restates what the OP says, that the "Continue Playing Project" check box has to be checked. And when its checked, you don't need any script to play the movie, Captivate will do that for you.

Well, poop. That solved it. That is rather counter-intuitive, if I am explicitly calling cp.movie.play(); it ought to play. With "continue playing the project" check box checked, you don't even need to call cp.movie.play(); The movie will continue to play because of the checked box. I think I will file a bug report. I hope I am missing something simple. I have 2 buttons: play_nav and pause_nav. Play_nav is hidden. Both buttons, when clicked call the same javascript function. The function hides the calling button and shows the other. The function is supposed to pause or play the movie. But... I can only get the movie to pause, nothing I do will make the movie play again. Below is my code, you can see all the commented out parts are different ways I have tried to make the player start again, but nothing seems to work. I am using Captivate 2017 on a Mac.
