That doesn't resolve the problem at hand I think. We're in 2023 now and the problem still stands... Is there any way to draw a dot or a small area without moving the pend and without using the airbrush ? (sorry but using the airbrush is just a workaround).

@June1234 I have Cache Level 8 Cache Tile Size 1024k I doubt that here lies the problem, I already tested several configuration on that front.

After a few days of practice, I rolled back to 24.7.1... Too many sideline bugs on 25.0 (software freezing, lines becoming weirdly aliased -I guess it has something to do with the GPU use...). The 24.7.1 is a bit more stable.

@JqqerryActually with more practice, I can say there's no difference between 24.7 and 25.0 regarding this bug. It doesn't bother me too much, as it disappears after a while (and reappears when you switch to another layer etc) but it certainly isn't fixed.

@JqqerryAt one point I thought the bug was (finally) entirely gone but I still noticed it after a while. As you said it, it happens more occasionally and randomly than before. Before, it showed each time i switched layers but now not so much... I'd have a hard time figuring out the reasons it appears.

@JqqerryI usually work on PSD around 4000x6000 px or 6000x9000. Now I work on the latest version of photoshop so I can't make comparisons to older versions. The only thing I reiterate is that the bug seems to disappear after a while on the same layer.

@JqqerryI don't want to say it too loud but the bug seems... fixed with the latest update (24.7) ? I'm curious if others experience the same thing.

@JqqerryThe problem is not due to smoothing... Again it's a bug that happens only when the canvas is rotated, I don't have this lag otherwise. But it's not like you rotate the canvas and all of a sudden you dan't draw, it seems to be after a while... Maybe my cache settings are a bit peculiar, I've cache levels:8 and cache tile size:1024. I appreciate your effort but I recognize it's tricky, I don't manage to understand what's the cause, it doesn't happen automatically. Maybe you'll see it someday 🙂

@JqqerryI try to make it happen and it seems difficult, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, it's not automatic. Here's a series of events that resulted in the bug but I did it again afterwards and haven't managed to reproduce the bug : >create new layer >rotate canvas >draw on the new layer several strokes so you have 10+ new history states >in the history menu, go back on the "new layer" state >now you should register a big lag when trying to draw again Maybe it happens after you work on your drawing for a while... It seems to have something to do with the cache ? Maybe the fact to draw with a quite 100%+ zoom is a factor.

@Jqqerry Ok so i'm not sure if it's really helpful because I haven't recorded the series of events that led to this but here is the brush lagging like hell when on a rotated canvas : Actually I'm not quite sure what series of events leads to this - I think you have to create a new layer then rotate then put a ctrl+z... You can see at the end that the brush strokes don't even register. And I'll add that when I hit Escape after that (not shown on the video), the canvas went back to its non-rotated form and all those strokes appeared at once, as if they were stored, waiting to be displayed.

Hi, I haven't been reporting this bug before because I haven't been updating regularly (I was on Photoshop 24.0 for a while) but now i'm on Photoshop 24.6 and I can say that this bug still remains : if you rotate the canvas (R on the keyboard) and you start to draw, there's no problem BUT if (still in the rotated canvas) you cancel the last stroke (Ctrl+Z) and start drawing again (still on the rotated canvas), you can experience a bug where the stroke doesn't appear immediatly. There's like a buffering, like there is a huge lag between you drawing a stroke and the stroke appearing on the canvas. Not sure why. I'm curious if others had the same experience.

@Jqqerry @chad.rolfs Little precision regarding 24.6 after I've worked with it a bit longer : I said that the flickering disappeared when you reached a certain number of history states and that seem to be true but it reappears when you create a new layer and draw on it (it then disappears after a few history states like before). Just to be a bit more precise about the bug.

@Jqqerry @chad.rolfs I think the problem originated before 24.1... Less prominently but I can see the brush cursor turning to a white arrow or disappearing when drawing fast strokes in 24.0, too. I think the problem originated with the new brush cursor options in Preferences... It seems that the brsh cursor is more stable (less flickering) with the "show crosshair in brush tip" enabled, for instance.

@JqqerryYeah as I said the bug remains but (in my version) disappears after a certain number of strokes. I'll stay with 24.6 because in 24.0 the bug still appears when you do fast short strokes, which isn't the case in 24.6.

@Jqqerry: There"s "Bug fixes" listed under the 24.6 update in Creative Cloud so that's that. Then again, as I said, the bug is not entirely fixed : the brush still flickers when you start working BUT it stops flickering entirely after you've reached a certain number of history states (20 ? 30 ?) (notice that the brush flickers again for the same amount of history states if you pick up another brush). Go figure. So the bug is still there but for such a very short amount of time that I think it's manageable. Also on the plus side, as I said, the brush seems more precise and reactive than on 24.0. I'd be very curious to know your feeling about this if you update.

So after 1/2 hour of drawing, I can say that -except for the first strokes after you open your file- there is no brush flicker at all. Actually, the brush seems more precise and reactive than before, I think i'll stay with 24.6. Yet this weird problem of flickering before you've made enough strokes to fill the history menu should be investigated.

Regarding the cursor flickering/turning to an arrow there's some new in the latest update (24.6 , june 2023) : the brush cursor still flickers at the start BUT it seems that when you've done enough actions and the history menu is full, the flicker disappears... Strange behaviour and I would like to know if the other people who experienced the bug have the same experience this time around. I think i can work with that for now but a complete suppression of the bug would be better.

@Jqqerry: My opinion is that if this bug is fixed someday, i doubt it will be listed beforehand (it will probably be fixed incidently while they're trying to fix something else 😄 )... Have you tried upgrading to the latest version ? I'm a bit tired of trying so I personally haven't yet...

@Matcha_Latte19: the cursor bug is still here in 24.0 (I have it when I draw fast short strokes) but less so that in the later versions, I think.

Reposting this bug because the first post has been merged with another unrelated bug report. https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-brush-outline-circle-disappearing-when-working-with-masks/idi-p/12570028/page/4#comments ) : since Photoshop 24.1, the brush cursor is flickering as if there is some lag/buffer when I'm drawing. Usually when i draw small lines rapidly (like hatchings, to give you the idea). The usual cursor of the brush shape disappears during one 10th of second or 1 second and turns to the normal white arrow mouse cursor. I signal this bug because it doesn't seem to happen on Photoshop 23.5.3 that i have also installed on my computer. Both versions are up to date and I checked the same performance settings on both. I'm on Windows 11 and my graphic card is an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3070. It looks like that (not my video but it looks exactly like this bug) : https://www.reddit.com/r/wacom/comments/fxryv6/brush_or_other_brushlike_tool_changing_to_cursor/ This bug has not been corrected since. I'm currently working on Photoshop 24.0. In 24.4.1 the bug is still here and there is even a bug with the shadow behind the floating canvas flickering with each stroke of brush.

Also for the shadow bug to appear, you'd have to work on floating canvas/windows not on new tabs.

The shadow bug appears and disappears. It seems very inconsistent and you have to click on a new layer in the layers menu for it to show, apparently, so maybe you didn't stick long enough for it to show. Anyway it sill doesn't explain why I had a drop shadow behind the canvas in the first place when it's disabled in the preferences.

@Jqqerry @PECourtejoie So I updated to 24.4.1 and 1-the bug of the brush flickering to mouse arrow is STILL HERE and 2-there's even a new absolutely annoying bug : the drop shadow behind the canvas gets darker EVERY TIME you draw a stroke. So it's like you have a flickering shadow behind your image when you're drawing. What the heck ? This bug doesn't seem to happen right away, you have to click on a layer on the layers panel first (?). The funniest thing ? I don't even have "drop shadow" enabled on the screen modes in Preferences>Interface (never had -first time I see shadows behind my canvas). COULD YOU PLEASE FIX (ALL OF) THIS ????
