Someone chickened out too soon. It seems that life and death of the threads are determined by date only.

Pierre, Claudio,
I had been following things with growing anxiety, this thread being third from the bottom. The latest post here was 13 October, and the threads from 12 October are the next to go. I am not sure whether it is purely a matter of dates or the number of threads counts too. Better safe (and silly) than (stout and) sorry.

Beth,
The hidden folder with the name Adobe Illustrator CS2 (or CS3) Settings is the one to search and destroy while Illy is closed; sometimes it only works if you move it to the Desktop.

Claudio,
Thank for the kind words.
I hope this forum and this thread shall live and not die. Therefore my question in the other thread. The cleanout in the NEW Forum Update News (big changes) seems ominous, but this forum was not created on a temporary basis, and after all there has to be a forum about the forums.
It is too early to say a final goodbye and to drop the cause, so if this thread dies with the forum, we shall have to give it a new life in whichever forum takes over.

Dave, you are welcome.
I believe the (most common) cause of corruption of files in the Settings folder is errors in Windows saving them. Some people experience it regularly, some never, regardless of Illy version. I am still with 10, and I have never tried it.
So there is no reason not to open, and use, Transparency.

Dave,
Have you tried moving the hidden
i Illustrator CS/CS2 Settings folder
to the Desktop with Illy closed?
This will remove a number of files, including the aiprefs file and the Workspaces subfolder; the whole folder is restored with the original default settings next time you start Illy.
That is one of the first things to try when a strange issue suddenly occurs, and removing the Workspaces subfolder has solved the issue for one of the first posters in this thread.

Claudio, I know, but Archives is just a euphemism for Hospice, and as you can see anything from 2006 is already gone, so it is practically a free fall into the deep abyss of all threads from all forums.

Certainly, Don. As you may have noticed across the forums, I have never complained about Adobe. And actually, this is one of the cherished threads in my archives, one of the few I have had to divide into parts because of its length. Was it really sarcasm?
But it was a narrow escape this time: had I not rescued it yesterday, it would have been in a free fall into the abyss now.

>R: Dutch forum? That's good news. See if I can find it
>P: I meant Netherlands forum... And no, there is no new forum.
>R: Thanks. I had been unaware of it until you mentioned it.

Claudio,
Especially during the day you will still have to know the positions at different times.
By the way, did you know that the trees follow the sun, so much so that they twist slightly? The safest way to determine whether timber comes from the north or from the south.

Claudio, I take it that in the north you have not needed to find your way through forests and over mountains and plains by the sun, the moon, and the stars.

Claudio,
>The sun and the moon rise from the East and set in the West, same as there.
I know, but up here the midday sun is in the south, as is the moon at its highest; so when we face it, it moves from the left where it rises to the right where it sets.

I see, Claudio; once again I forgot about your having summer now, and summer time of course.
Never having crossed the equator, I have often wondered how it would be to see the sun and moon rise, move, and set, in the opposite direction. Have you tried it?
