Thanks for sharing this! I had updated After Effects to version 25 and was running into a lot of memory issues, even though I have 32GB of RAM and a solid machine. Adjusting the virtual memory settings completely solved my problem. It’s crazy how even after 15 years using this software, sometimes when things break, we still end up not knowing what to do. Your insight was really helpful!

The main reason I currently run Windows 11 is the lack of Adobe's support for Creative Cloud in Linux. I find Windows 11 very annoying, but it is completely stable. (I've never experienced a crash on my two home systems or work system, despite having modified the registry in quite a few instances. Still trying to get rid of Edge!) I just prefer using Linux. The idea of using Proton to enable CC in Linux is appealing to me, but I seriously doubt it will ever happen, and even if it did, there would be no technical support. I don't foresee Linux ever being a supported platform for CC. I hope I'm wrong.

It seems the "greyed-out parts" apper only when you split a video layer. When you split a shape layer for example, no such part appears.

It sounds awesome! I've followed the installation instructions, installed the whell and the plugin but when I start AE, shows this error alert: "After Effects error: Couldn't find main entry point for PyShiftAE.aex (48::72)"

For many years I had the same question until I realized what the problem was. increase the sensor size in the camera settings. the standard is 35 mm. set it to 70 or 100mm. and the projection quality will be sharp.

Using a TV as a monitor for Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator can be a budget-friendly option if you need a large screen for creative work. However, there are some key factors to consider before making the switch. Pros of Using a TV Monitor for AE, PS & AI: :white_heavy_check_mark: Affordable Large Screen – TVs are generally cheaper than large PC monitors, making them a great choice for budget-conscious designers. :white_heavy_check_mark: Wall-Mountable Setup – Since you want to mount it on your wall, a TV can provide a convenient, space-saving solution. :white_heavy_check_mark: Good Color & Contrast (with High-End TVs) – Some 4K TVs with high color accuracy (like OLED or QLED) can provide a decent experience for editing. :white_heavy_check_mark: Multiple Connectivity Options – Most modern TVs have HDMI ports, making them easy to connect to your PC. Cons & Potential Issues with Using a TV for AE & Design Work: :cross_mark: Higher Input Lag – TVs often have more input lag than monitors, making UI interactions slightly slower. :cross_mark: Refresh Rate & Response Time – Most TVs have a 60Hz refresh rate, which is fine for basic work but not ideal for high-frame-rate animations. :cross_mark: Scaling & Text Clarity – TVs are designed for distant viewing, so text and UI elements may not appear as sharp. :cross_mark: Color Accuracy – Many TVs oversaturate colors, affecting design accuracy. Look for TVs with a "PC mode" or "Game mode" that disables post-processing. :cross_mark: Limited Ergonomics – If you work close to the screen, a TV’s size and positioning might cause neck strain compared to an adjustable monitor. Best TVs for Adobe After Effects & Graphic Design Work If you decide to go with a TV, consider one with low input lag, good color accuracy, and proper scaling. Some great options include: :small_blue_diamond: LG C2 or C3 OLED – Excellent color accuracy and low input lag. :small_blue_diamond: Samsung QN90B – Great brightness and contrast for detailed work. :small_blue_diamond: Sony Bravia XR A80K – High-quality display with great motion handling. Final Verdict Yes, you can use a TV monitor for Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator, but it’s essential to choose a model that minimizes input lag and color inaccuracy. If precise color work is crucial, a professional calibrated PC monitor is still the best choice. By the way, if you're looking for a reliable streaming app Download MagisTV APK. Hope this helps! 👍

I just had this issue in AI and it was because one of my artboards had mixed color profiles. I had copied something in from InDesign and it had some spot colors. Even though I rasterized that whole artboard in AI, when I exported to PDF it didn't want to show anything but the spot colors (I'm guessing because I had "preserve spot colors" enabled when I exported). I converted the spot colors to RGB and everything showed correctly after I exported to PDF again. Not sure if it was just my specific issue, but figured I'd add my issue here just in case it helps someone else.

Hi @GoGraphix ,
Thanks for writing in.
You can use Gen Extend in Premiere Pro to extend your videos and audio clips. Here are more details: https://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/extend-video.html
The feature is in beta as of now. Here's how you can install Premiere Pro beta.
Let us know if there are any questions.

Like this maybe:
m = marker;
t = time;
startKey = thisComp.layer("Controller").effect("Start")("Slider");
stopKey = thisComp.layer("Controller").effect("Stop")("Slider");
try{
tStart = m.key(startKey).time;
tStop = m.key(stopKey).time;
t = linear(time,tStart,tStop,tStart,tStop);
}catch(e){
}

Thanks Steve, it usually takes a bit longer to make myself understood. I was getting ready to get out my wallet to make a wager🙂. I guess if you've never had that facility then you can't imagine the delight in using it. I was absolutely in shock when I first started using Maya but, of course, you find ways of working around it. You might be interested to know that sidefx used to consult with us on their trips to London on how to improve their appeal to animators and I like to think we played a small part in them adopting this fcurve functionality a few years back. Up until then their curve editor was similarly limited. Going back to the original complaint about after effects you should try Davinci Resolve's curve editor!! You would pull ALL your hair out not just some of it. It takes the prize for worst curve editor ever.

Hi @AM!,
@AM!
Use a monitor that has less resolution than a 4K monitor. You don't need to operate a monitor like that to work with After Effects in most cases.
Take Care,
Kevin

Your condescending attitude in nearly every response is unnecessary and unhelpful. Telling someone their work is ‘botched’ without offering any meaningful guidance does nothing but discourage people from asking for help. If you actually want to contribute to this community, try offering constructive feedback instead of acting like everyone should already know what you do. This kind of dismissive, superiority-complex approach is unacceptable in a space meant to help others. Either be helpful or don’t respond at all.

Hi thought I'd give some more details to explain my issue and would really appreciate a response!!! I'm making a whiteboard animation video, and want to copy the position keyframes from the path of the write on effect, to the position of the whiteboard marker tip so that it looks drawn on. Most of them work but some of them don't and pop up with an error box like the one I've attatched here. Is there a way to solve this?

Hi @joey24144029flcv,
Thanks for the message. Welcome to the forum! This codec is very old and not supported anymore. I am sorry you are relying on using that codec in Premiere Pro natively. The advice on the thread is to use FFMPEG or one of its variants, like Shutter Encoder. Can you try a test there by creating a new file and see if your group can work with it? Let the community know.
Thanks, Kevin
