Layer>Merge Shapes and/or Cmd + E will merge selected vector shapes to a single layer without rasterizing them in Photoshop CS6.
Note: All selected layers must be vector layers for this to work, and the shape attributes (fill, stroke, etc) of the top-most selected layer is applied to the layers that merged.

Thanks for suggesting and voting. It makes my job lobbying for changes easier when I have good, constructive feedback I can bring back to the team for incentive.

Oddly enough, the fact that my request was implemented by making collection-specific flags global has obviated my need for smart collection criteria that can use these flags.
I hate to add fuel to this fire, but I would probably have preferred just expanding the notion of the criteria to be "test for [pick | deleted] flag is true for photo in [any | selected] collection". That is, make the smart collection criteria and logic smarter, but leave the flag behaviour alone.
I don't really have a workflow that depends on flags being local, but it does seem like a scorched earth technique to change it in this manner. The net result is that I probably will not even use picks any more.
That being said, I often ended up doing my initial X/P culling in the handy Previous Import library bookmark view, which was often a mistake. I guess I can't make that mistake now.

I've been a loyal user since Photoshop 3. I've tended to upgrade at every other major version release, because I haven't seen the value in upgrading at every version. Now we hear that Adobe isn't happy with that, so they want to charge full price if users don't think there's enough features in the product to justify an upgrade. I'm mad as H@ll at that idea. I've spent thousands of dollars on Photoshop, and this is the thanks I get?
Adobe doesn't see the unintended consequences of their action. It might spur more competition to snatch angry users away, and even an open-source movement to spring up.
If Adobe did what was done for Lightroom and offer it at about half the price of the previous version going forward, that might be a good way to ask users to stay on the upgrade treadmill without punishing them unjustifiably if they decide to skip a version. Or, make the time between version upgrades longer and put enough decent improvements in them to make it worth the price.

I have the same problem. The alt-tab works but it is not ideal. I discovered this frustrating problem during a Photoshop class with Ben Willmore today and I want to take notes and follow the teacher. This problem makes that extremely difficult and time consuming. I would like to have Microsoft Word open and ACR open so I can easily work and take notes... but no, in a dark room, I have to find the alt-tab keys and relocate Word, take notes, then go back to task bar and hover over BR til I see the ACR screen come up. What a bummer....

I'd like to be able to reset individual colour curves without affecting the RGB curve. For example, if I have changed the colour curves and am applying the same settings to several photos but then decide to convert some to black and white, they will be tinted because of the colour curve adjustments.
Easily corrected with Saturation/Vibrance or HSL controls. The effect is built into the curves since it is desirable in most (more cases). Also see:http://www.luminous-landscape.com/ess...
