Great start, Didier! Fill it out with the rest of the story. There's more going on outside the frame that's probably super cool!

Okay Richard. Take it to the next level. Show us what you can do with the rest of your Adobe toolkit to turn this into a full-blown scene. That's what this challenge is about.

Welcome to a new kind of Creative Challenge, where you get the chance to play with all your favorite Adobe tools, and perhaps try out some you’ve never used before!
How to participate:
You don’t have to be an expert! This is for anyone at any skill level. The main thing is to have a go, and let the joy of creating be its own reward.
Generate a starter image or a vector drawing based on the theme of the challenge, using Firefly, Adobe Express, Photoshop, or text-to-vector in Illustrator. Expand the image into a finished product of your choice using at least one other app from Creative Cloud and/or Substance 3D. The point of the challenge is to work across apps, so this is important. Bonus kudos for incorporating Adobe Fonts, Adobe Stock, or Substance 3D Community Assets. Video is okay too.
When you're done, save an image, screenshot, or video clip of your final artwork, post it here as a reply to this post, and tell us your process and which tools you used.
There are no prizes other than the joy of creating and the experience gained in making different tools work together to a final creative product.
Challenge 1: Animal Life
Begin in Firefly, Photoshop, Adobe Express, or Illustrator (vector) Generate a starter image of an exotic animal, fish, insect, or other arthropod (no limits, so long as it's alive). Ancient animals are okay, so if you’re a dinosaur fan, go for it! Create an environment around it, using Photoshop or Illustrator or any other Adobe tools you prefer. Add other creatures or plants to tell a story and complete the scene. Be as poetic or as whimsical as you like!
Here’s one idea: A cuttlefish birthday party!
It started as a Firefly generated drawing of a cuttlefish. In Photoshop, after removing some debris with the Remove Tool, I added the crab and expanded coral reef using Generative Fill after enlarging the image with the Crop tool. The balloon and the party hat are Generative Fill using the Selection Brush at 70%. The birthday cake is from Adobe Stock (the water put the flames out, sadly), with an overall color tint to blend with the scene. Shrimps are Generative Fill (Selection Brush again). Finally, I took the whole scene into the Camera Raw filter to enhance the watercolor-and-ink look with the Clarity slider and desaturate the colors.

@Dario de Judicibus You are completely misinformed on this subject. It is highly illegal in many countries (EU, UK, US and others) to create an image of banknotes or even make photocopies of them. Many high-end copiers will not even make such copies because of the legal issues. Photoshop is simply complying with the laws Adobe is required to comply with.

That is hilarious! Firefly does struggle a bit with reality. It's much better at fantasy, where details like "sharks seldom swim in blankets" aren't so important. 😊

Don't look at the shadow angles too closely. This image effectively places the light source (the sun) less than 100 meters away, which is a problem that shows up a lot and is hard to correct, even with cutting-edge Photoshop trickery.
It's the High Renaissance sfumato rendering of the landscape I find appealing, because it gives the scene atmosphere (no pun intended). Hide the foreground, and the rest could easily be part of a 16th century painting.

"Alien visitors enjoying a picnic with plenty of nice food. Setting is a wide barren crater on an alien world. Orange sky. Wide-angle. Long shot." After spending too long trying to get undistorted humans into a Martian landscape (Gale Crater), I decided to go with aliens on an undefined alien world. Nobody knows what they're supposed to look like.

A context buffer that would allow incremental changes rather than wholesale generation of a new image would make everything Firefly-related 100x more useful. I believe this is on the development roadmap.
In the meantime, the best strategy is to take what Viewer gives you, save, open in Photoshop, and use the usual retouching and repair tools to get to where you want.

Sweet! Straight outta Barbie! It's always interesting to see what Firefly picks up on and what it ignores. Ice cream cone towers made the cut, but the majestic mountains and pastel sky will have to wait their turn.

Stuff does get weird sometimes, and narrowing down the source of the weirdness only gets harder as OS, apps, and hardware become more complex. About 12 years ago, as a sort of self-defense measure, I stopped building my own boxes and now only buy Dell (but it could have been HP or Lenovo). Enterprise-grade hardware vendors are diligent about updating firmware and drivers, and they have excellent support. This makes troubleshooting simpler because there are fewer variables, and if something does go sideways (like that Illustrator hangup) it will show up all over the place and therefore get more attention from the engineers.

Good question. What are your hardware specs (including choice of GPU)? Not all systems are supported, so it's worth verifying that your hardware is on the list, especially the GPU. Use the GPU troubleshooting steps. If you have an Nvidia GPU (assuming it's supported), ensure you're running the Studio driver and not the Game Ready driver. Only the Studio driver is tested against non-game apps, and I've seen the problems that can come from using the wrong version.

The follow-on from that is that if ou need to split the image into layers based on those grey levels, all you need is the Magic Wand tool set to a low tolerance (16, say) with Contiguous unchecked. Then you target the base layer and use Ctrl/Cmd+J to create a new layer with a copy of that part of the base.

As @D Fosse says, Posterize will give you what you specify. Set to 4 levels, you'll get grey values of 0, 85, 170, and 255. It can look as if there are more for the same reason the famous chess board illusion works, or this smoky one from a couple of years ago, but if you open the Info panel and drag the cursor around, you'll see that only those four values exist.

Truth to tell, I've often wondered if I would ever use those wild duck images. They're from a 2008 photoshoot I did for a friend in LA, after said ducks had decided to use his koi pond as a migration waystop. And I've been partial to forced perspective since I got my first camera as a kid! 😊

@Wayne36228588q66h You'll find them here: %appdata%\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2024. (Press the Windows key + R, and enter %appdata% in the data field. "%appdata%" is shorthand for "c:\users\[username]\AppData\Roaming")
Look for the Presets and Adobe Photoshop 2024 Settings folders.
