Thank you! This seems to work, except that it does not fill the image frames with 100% black. Is that possible to implement?

I have a 364 page book with 322 illustrations, mainly photographs, for offset printing. The photographs will be overprinted with varnish on a fifth plate, and I set this up as follows: On a new layer, (duplicate of Layer 1) all the photos are deleted, but not their frames. The frames are then filled with 100% black. All text frames and page numbers will also have to be deleted. I realise I could have made this job easier if I had placed all images on their own layer to begin with, but unfortunately I didn't. And I don't do scripting myself, so I was wondering if someone has a script that will do this ... Using CC 2015.1 on Windows 7.

No it's not. I guess Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F is a default shortcut for something I never use, which is why I chose it for Flatten. This probably happened when I bought the first version of PS that allowed you to create you own shortcuts. (whenever that was) But thanks for the offer!

I have been using Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F for years, not sure whether it is a default shortcut, or if I assigned it. You can create your own shortcut sets - Edit > Keyboard shortcuts.

No, not seeing green little men, but something quite useful ... so thanks! It turns out that the Discussions view will bold the title of threads I have previously visited, when they have received new posts since my last visit. I thought this was beyond the capabilities of these forums, but it's probably a feature I have missed out on, or a happy accident caused by the combination of my custom CSS and the Jive code (not so likely).

Yes, I see now that the Discussions view displays properly. But the All Content view works in all the other forums i frequent, and an identical problem was fixed in the Lightroom forum, so it should be possible to fix this too.

I use the Content view of the forum, with sort order set to Sort by latest activity, newest first. This particular view is now stuck, with the posts all jumbled. The exact same thing happened to the Lightroom forum some weeks ago, but was eventually fixed.

Some scanning programs (like Epson Scan) have a Descreen option, which is designed to remove these patterns. But the way I understand your post, these are photos (prints?) of newspapers, so I'm not sure how well it would work. The best thing would obviously be to scan the newspaper itself, if you have access to it.

I did some tests turning the graphics processor on and off, and diagonal lines do become jagged at certain magnifications when it is turned off. So my guess is that this is what's causing the problem. It appears that you cannot work with it turned on, but I wouldn't worry too much about it, since it doesn't really affect the image, only how you see it in PS.

Sharpening and noise reduction can only be viewed correctly at 100% view, Any other view will be incorrect and misleading. So view the image at 100% in Camera Raw, and then at 100% in Photoshop. Do you still see a difference?

The image is Adobe RGB - it should be sRGB for best results on the web. Use Save for web under File > Export, and check Convert to sRGB. You should also resize the image to smaller pixel dimensions - 4000 x 6000 is way too much.

The Galaxy S5 has several display modes, have you tried setting it to Professional Photo Mode? I don't have this phone, but I have a Galaxy Tab S, which I believe uses similar display type and technology, and it's very accurate when set to Basic. Take a look at this article: Samsung Galaxy S5 Display Technology Shoot-Out

Here's a workaround: When the Save As dialog opens, the filename is highlighted, Press Tab, and the file type will be highlighted. Press J, and Jpeg is selected Press T, and Tiff is selected (that's on a 16 bit file, if it's 8 bit, press T twice, Targa comes up first) For Pdf, Psd, Png you may have to press P several times. This works on Windows, probably works on Mac, too.

You can find the serial # in a file called Lightroom 5.0 Registration.lrreg, which is located in C:\Users\[Your username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom This is on Windows, I imagine it's something similar on a Mac.

there are workflows imaginable where it might not make sense, like if the intended use will always be for the web. Absolutely, and especially when using PS only. But in LR, you'd export the image in sRGB, and there would normally not be any need to open the image in PS, unless it is required for some editing. And even then, I'd do the PS editing in ProPhoto, and do the final export from LR.

You need to set Color Management Policies to Preserve Embedded Profiles under Edit > Color Settings. Images coming from LR are in the ProPhoto color space, and should be kept that way. What you're doing now is throwing away information, when the large ProPhoto space is converted to the smaller Adobe RGB, or even smaller sRGB.

Hi Anshul, I've published a new document that shows the problem more clearly at https://indd.adobe.com/view/60963cd1-ac4a-4fed-b9a6-fd2a731dd500 This was made with Image Settings set to Auto. The problem varies with the width of the browsers window, and is not visible at most widths. I'm on Windows 7, and the problem only shows in Opera and Chrome - Firefox and IE are OK. I include a screenshot from Opera. Look for blue or black lines below and on the right edge of the images.

Pretty cool. But something strange happens to the right hand egde of images. See https://indd.adobe.com/view/69fbee65-435d-4dbd-8ee6-f1b1d61a7cd1 It happens with jpg as well as png. Edit: It only happens in Chrome and Opera - Firefox and IE are ok.

I must have written this on auto pilot, because I do of course use LR to do this now. But I used to do it a lot in PS before I started to use LR. I use LR JPEG Quality settings of 77-84% for outside printing and LR 62-69% for web posting. I've yet to see any compression artifacts using these settings and I am a pixel-peeper! I'm a pixel peeper too. I have a few images on my website that require the 77-84% setting. They're all from black & white scans, with clear skies that will show blockiness at lower settings.

My view on this is somewhat different ... Jpgs should never be edited, except as a last resort. And it defeats the purpose of working with raw files if you export a jpg, and then edit it. If someone gives me a jpg to edit, I always save it as a tiff and convert to 16-bit, to minimize furhter deterioration. I realize that this will not be true 16-bit - no information is added to the image - but my impression is that it will withstand heavy editing better, and not end up with a comb-like histogram. For printing, a 100% quality jpg will usually be fine, although I prefer to use tiff myself - being more nitpicky than most ... For screen use, 100% quality is overkill, 60 is usually fine, some images might need 80, and for others 40 will be enough.
