So quite obviously, the program that DOESN'T work well, should be that which is thrown out or fixed, wouldn't you say? No! I'll try to explain. This is caused by some utilities that are not original to your system and laters your system and the way it functions as well as how it works with other applications. If the developers of these application did not follow the guide lines of the SDK, which is lkikely what they did, then it will interfere with other applications thyt do follow the SDK and therefore they are required to fix it. But it goes further than that, yoou see Adobe is responsible to make its applications work with your system as it was designed to work once your sytem is altered in such a way as one of these utilties might do then Adobe is no longer able to do anything about it ince the software that alters the system is owned by another developer. Adobe would have to alter the system as well in order to make this software work, which of course theu=y are not entitled to do since they have no ownership and their shareholders would be un happy if A dobe spent money fixing the problems caused by other developers and so would management and of course the users would wonder as well why not spend the resources fixing Illustrator bugs instead of bugs by other developers. Now you may want it to be Adobe's fault and you seem to think you have a good argument but clearly it does not address he problem you have a software installed that is conflicting and if the users of this software do not report it to the developer thant it will not be fixed aand they sre the only ones tht can fix it. There is no way Adobe can fix it. Let me explain further You can also decided which is more valuable to you Illustrator or the utility software, if it is the Utility software then I guess you would then not use Illustrator and if it is Illustrtor then you will remove the ultility softwware. Now the OP  decied they would not upgrade Illustrator until this problem was solved so they will be keeping the utility and CS 5 and not CS 6. And they will wait till CS 7 comes out and if the utility still conflicts with CS 7 they will I assume not update but other users on this thread made a different choice. So it is actualy your choice. Always suspect updates, new fonts, new installations, utility software and the like as a possible source. And no matter what you might think and as far unrelated as you can imagine that such situations can effect another application totally unrelted consider one thing, all of them make a preference of some kind and all of those are contained within the systems or users preferences folder and it is there were the conflict can take place. The way that works is if it writes the preference the wrong way the poreference may then be directed at the preference from another application, the other application may not interpret that directive to mean what it is supposed to mean and you got yourself a short circuit. The instruction sounds a little odd they are referring to a bleed that is normally 1/8 inch larger than the caual trim size. Their description is misleading from what isee since the neglected to mention bleed. Of course if everything is within the safe area then there is no need for bleed. No reason to expand the spot color gradient they separate fine. The explanation about overprint and it being an older persons tool is that many younger professionals are not taught production, the idea of overprint is totally foreign to them amongst other production wise work flow. There are users in their forties that have production experience. That does not mean all young people are ignorant of their craft but it is less of an issue for them as other people take up the slack. We see it all the time on the forum, unusual things like users not converting RGB image files to cmyk in photoshop before placing them into an Illustrator file nd wondering why the color is off. They often confuse dpi for ppi. the do not know the difference between spot colors and process color equivalent, don't know the difference between vector and raster! the list goes on. They don't understand why you can't overprint to cmyk process colors. There aree really an interesting lack of apprentiship in the filed these days. However even the less eexperience do know heir trade as it is today and oftebn surprise us with interesting techniques and knowledge of software and hardware issues. It is not the xeon processor I have a MacPro original and an A3 size Document alt (option) scroll wheel zooms in out really fast, I would say way to fast. Did you check your settings for you mouse? To some users this is becasue Illustrators ways are archaic…they might have a point in some cases but if one has followed the forum for as long I have one would recall that improvements to the the type input mechanism was not something that too many ILlustrator users ever approved of and the main reason was that they though of Illustrator as an art creation tool and not a layout program. For instance any form of multiple page or multiple artboard feature was fought against vigorously, even though it seems to be a popular feature now. Improvement to the text engine was even less enthusiastic and Adobe was just listening to the users and not spending as much time on the developement of the Type engine. You might not see this a logical or even believe it is possible but that was the case and might still be and the onl waay to change it is to make it known that you want the type engine upgraded and tell the team why. Here are the two criterias that will convince them if  presented well. 1.How will this feature save you time 2.How will this improve your work flow with (Application's name) If you give a strang straight forward agrument, by argument I mean a strong rational explaination, you have a strong chance of gaining acceptance. One approach I know will not work and that is to argue that you could do it in FreeHand, that is not a compelling reason or even a reason. I have tried myself to to sumit this feature request several times in the past but you see they will not change the type engine for one user I submitted this proposal even before I have ever heard the complaint by former FreeHand users, so I think it is a good feature as it is useful as long as it can be done without causing issues. And if non of the users who come to this forum do not make this a feature request quite frankly I agree with Adobe if they do not care enough to take a few minutes to make such a feature request than they really don't need it. It is a good feture. There is one thing that always helps the team it seems if you can describe how you might think that several of the existing features in Illustrator can be combined to create such a feature that is helpful. And what is important about that aspect of your feature request is you don't have to be right just as long as it gets the team to think that hey this might be possible. I have seen users come to the forum with such an approach and be successful, or at least those features have been implemented after the user made the feature request. You clearly have a cache problem and or a permissions problem and why you are not reading the article I posted I do not understand it will offer you the remedy you need but you have to read it and yes you have to do some work and if you do this it will bhe fine. I dumped my cache because I lost some performance which I had initially gain with CS 6 but once I repared the permissions and dumped the personal cahe files all was back to normal and now that I got  my additional 8 GB of memory back so that I now have 17 GBs things are working really well. This won't be the first time that pantone and Adobe have miss the requirement for consistency. And I hate to m pint the finger if you know what I mean but I think this about Pantone making money by confusing the user and requiring them to purchase updates their printed sample books. You can also simply open the web rgb document turn it off and replace it then it will always be that way. You find the document profiles here you need to right click or control click on the Illustrator Application and choose Show Packages. You make the changes then resave the file by doing a save. I am not certain if it is possible to do a Save As to the packages so do a simple save. They're are in the required folder. Well, it appears you do not know the difference between raster images and vector graphics. I suggest you read about the two different types of file. You would more like create a vector art in Illustrator or perhaps even Fireworks and then save it that way but be aware hat even in a vector program when creating artwork even vector art there are some things that will be rastered such as Effects like drop shadows. OK I'll try to explain. A raster image is created in pixels the pixel is fixed as a pixels, For instance a photograph is captured as pixels and edit as such as well. Technically they are not at all scaleable. But they are often resampled to be larger. The larger files is the result of interpolation that is a reconstruction of the image file based on the existing pixels, the software for doing this is very well developed but the results depend on the quality of the original the pixel count of the original and the quality of the information the file has in regard to those pixels it is guess work and can be effected by previous edits and methods of saving the file. So for all intents and purposes it is not considered scaleable. The reason it is a raster image in the first places is so that it can contain many colors, shades and tints and hues in order to represent the subject accurately. Like shading and highlighting on the human face each neighboring pixels is a different though often very close color in order to get that smooth transition. So in a high res image you are talking about millions of colors and millions of pixels… Vector files on the other had are created with mathematics that create bezier curves which can have a fill of a color or a stroke of a color which are designated as a single color, you can also fill these shapes which are known as path with gradients which are  like a blend of colors and though appear to be smooth are actually created by very small steps from one color to another, I never found the gradient in a vector object as good as a gradient in a raster images or raster art.
