I agreee with Monika it is the align to pixel option and you must have it turned on. If you are making a web document it is turned on my default the transform panel reflects this unless you do not have the options of the transform panel opened. here it shows it Here it doesn't Here witht the option I choose .5 pixels in the stroke panel The result is 1 pixel This is the only way this situation manifest itself. That means your printer is probably reading the pdf part of the ai file and not the postscript. Is the rip for your printer postscript if so then it would be odd that it does not read the eps. ... View more

Well you kow I am not really so amused by your interpretation of the problem as much as it is a reminder to my own problems in the past when I first purchase my first Mac. Never owning my own personal computer before I was a little naive and kind of thought everything was going to be perfect and work smoothly. And everything did especially when I loaded Illustrator 8 disabled the Apple software. And then i found these great utilitities that really help me a lot including applications like launchbar. But everytime they fixed a problem they create three others and i started to turn things on and off at Adobe's suggestion and found I could locate the issues. But then I found though most of the developers where really gald to have the issues pointed out to them, some would deny the obvious truth and I had to send my concerns to them thre e or four times before i would get the e-mail back stating, oh yes thsank you we  were able to reproduce the problem. We will have fix  shortly and most times they would fix the problem. But some of these developers are really not concerned about the fact that tthey are hindering their customers workflow and would  not really bother to fix the issue. Their only concern was the money they could get and the cost to them to fix the issue. And so they are out of business and someone more resonsive has com along. Having said that I have a utility that i use and can recommend that might be helpful. It is aclled DragThing You can use it as a launcher from the desktop, you can assign keyboard shortcuts to launch applications and scripts. you can copy text to the the drawers as well as art and then paste it at a later date even after you restart your computer it is not copied to the clipboard. You can save urls links folders and it is a very cool utility I have never encountered a conflict with using it for over a decade. You can arrange drawers for applicatioins and for folder and art and for text you can make sets of draws. it folds int ot he side of the screen out of sight until you need it. But I like that fact that I can launch any application with a keyboard shortcut the most. It is an old time favorite, they claim over the yr=ears that there have been a few conflicts about four I think in all the time I have been using it but it never effected my work. maybe they did, it seems to only work on a Mac. They have never asked me for an update fee. Perhaps it is time to look for something similar for Windows or ask them to develope it for Windows and offer to test it for them. ... View more

I get back the my other 8 GBs of Memory and I bet it flies. I say you have a font cache problem that CS 5 is not seeing. Clicking witht h text tool or drawing a text frame is the right way to paste text because it locates the text relative to wher eyou wwant it and not using the text tool and pasting might yeild under certain conditions unexpected resultts. Depending from wht program you are copying from. then just select the tile path and make certain it is on top and then select all and command or control 7 that should do it as well. If masked srt will work that is easy as pie. Here it is clipped here it is with four tiles piece together manually as viewed in Acrobat if i can do this manually then the softwaare ashould be able to stitch it without a hitch. Yes this is a user to user forum and i am trying to steer you in the right direction so that you can solve your own issue. I am only speaking from my own experience. For istance there was time back in Illustrator 8 wwhen Illustrator would crash after inputting text for more than ten minutes, almost alwaays and for a lot of users. It was incredibily frustrating you do all this work and then it was gone, what kind of application was Adobe selling us and it was not just me but a lot of users. And really the only plug in I had was Spell Checker which had nothing to do with fonts or typing. Ah! You say well itis obvious that something like spell checker could have a profound effect on text input, you are correct. But not back in 1996, when who would have thought such a thing and after all it was just a plug in why woould that have an effect on Illustrator and wasn't Adobe's responsibilty to fix it if it were  a plug in for their application? I took me a few years to get around that and I finally gave up on Spell checker about 1999. Even when I finally gave it up I couldn't believe it. But now zI am glad I am rid of it because i clearlyt do not need a spell checker plug in, how else would he world know I ma the world's worse speller? Huh? I don't think Adobe is blaming you but it simply does look like there is nothing they can do after there are laws that prevent them from altering other developers software and there are so many applcations out there they cannot be responsible for all of it. I get this type of reaction in my business often where I will rtae photograph of a building and the architects will love it and then get angry with me because their photographer failed to capture the building in the same manner. It is some how intheir minds my responsibilty for the other photographers failure where as the other photogrpher is a favorite of theirs and so they can't possibly be at fault. You might do better with wmf or emf as your format and if you are not resizing the art once in Word then .png will give surprisingly good result. I do not believ word supports cmyk and if you use an eps then the cmyk I believe will be converted by word to rgb. I think. So it might not be a good idea in the first place. ... View more

The tile I am showing you is the same as a seamless tile made in any previous version as far as I know there is not difference it has the no fill no stroke rectangle defining the tile. If you are saying you need the art actually trimmed that is easy enought to do. I do not really see the problem do as you yourself suggest drag the swatch to the canvas turn on smart guide select the tile rectangle copy paste inf front Object>Artboard Convert to Artboard as as an AI file but select to export artboards and select a range and select the artboard Or copy and paste in front Object>Path>Devide Objects below and delete the extra parts. Before you erase the text make sure it is a flattened tiff. Because if it is not a flattened tiff the text may still be alive. As you can actually now have text in a tiff and you can have that text converted to an AI object when opening the file or placing it. Although in this case it sounds like it is a flattened tiff. In any event it is not necessary that you input the text in AI you could always work directly on the image in Photoshop and create the text there as well then save as a layered tiff and place and convert the text in AI when placing the tiff into AI. This is a tiff placed in AI and I had inputted the text in Photoshop saved with layers and placed in AI converted layers to AI Objects and as you can see live text. One of the advantages of doing this, sometimes, is that you can zoom in more efficiently on the image in Photoshop for better inspection of the image in Illustrator it might be as clear. The text is fully editable in AI. Also if you have to scale the image you can do this in photoshop and text will be scaled with the image and still remain editable upon placing it. However from what you describe it does sound like it is a flattened tiff. But if you have difficulties creating your type in AI in relations to your image then be aware that you can create the text in Photoshop and save out either as a psd or layered tiff. ... View more
