Okay thanks. One comment about the keyboard shortcut list, it's not been updated for cs6. Most of the help files haven't been updated for cs6 and there all mixed together with the help for cs5. My hope is once the help is finished the help files will only cover cs6 like previous versions of help covered only one version of photoshop. It's quite confusing having help for two different versions of photoshop in the same link.

Is the online help the only way to see the help files? No help application as in photoshop cs5? Will there be a pdf for viewing when no internet connection is available? Added: Also there does not appear to be a list of keyboard shortcuts in the photoshop cs6 online help. Message was edited by: R_Kelly

One way is to make a selection of the people, inverse the selection, turn the layer to a smart object and use Image Adjustments>Shadows/Highlights.

Here's a script that should make it easier to contract the selection: http://morris-photographics.com/photoshop/scripts/contract-selection.html

Sorry i should have said select>all after going to quick mask. In the transform boxes you can set the width and height values to pixels. Actually the feature is not broken, but apparently some people didn't like it, so it was put back the way it was before.

Yeah cs3 is the only version that has that. In cs5 you can select>all, quick mask, edit>stroke-inside the amount you want contract the selection, exit quick mask. Or use Select>Transform Selection.

Try resetting the magic wand tool by right clicking on the magic wand icon in the tool options bar and choosing reset tool. Also check what the sample size is set for the eyedropper tool (that effects the magic wand) You probably want one of the first three settings.

You might ask on the cs6 forum, but i think thre's an option under Window or View to remove the application frame. http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/photoshopcs6?view=discussions&start=0 I do have a question if you don't mind. What resolution is your screen?

I haven't tried cs on windows 7, but i do have it installed on vista x 64, in which uac is similar to windows 7 maximum setting and seems to run fine. There are a few small glitches with imageready, but photoshop cs itself seems to work fine. I just installed cs as an administrator (right click on the installer and choose Run as administrator) Once installed it should run normally without having to run as an administrator.

Another way if your image is on a transparent background like the example you linked to, is to use a stroke layer style with the fill set to zero.

Perhaps the easiest way is to use this script: Contract Canvas Selection
http://morris-photographics.com/photoshop/scripts/contract-selection.html
Haven't had a chance to try it in cs6 though.
Yes it does work in photoshop cs6.

I believe this setting in the general preferences is it, although i wonder if there's a way to have both opacity and hardness at the same time available for change in the hud.

That probably has to do with the file being a jpeg, word usually wants to use the Microsoft photo editor for jpegs. What version of photoshop and os? I only have word 2003. You might have to use psd files instead of jpegs.

You can also use the grid to center objects by setting Edit>Preferences>Grid as below. Then with the move tool selected, show bounding box checked, objects should snap to the grid. Enable the grid by View>Grid.

If you just want to center the image (layer) in the document: 1. select>all 2. select the move tool 3. in the tool options bar use the align buttons: vertical centers and horizontal centers. pse 7 doesn't have guides.

Another way that seems to work is to run pse 9 in compatibilty mode for Vista (Service pack 2). Right click on theb pse 9 shortcut and select Properties. I'm really at a loss as to why adobe won't fix this, since some users have reported seeing the same thing in pse 10.

There is a Freeform Pen Tool (Text on a Custom Path Tool) that has some of features that the Freeform Pen Tool in photoshop has, but not a true pen tool per se. You can even use it to modify shape layers and stroke paths with some of the painting tools like the brush tool. I guess it depends on how want to use it, whether you find it suitable or not. stroked path with the brush tool
