Hi Jarek, Looking briefly at the thread that you referenced, I don't see the correlation at all. My best guess is that I am using an improper object reference. If I choose to use "HyperlinkTextSources" instead of "HyperlinkPageItemSources" I can successfully link the first source by using "aDoc.HyperlinkTextSources.Add(curTextItem.Texts.LastItem) but when it gets to the second source it errors with: "The object you have chosen is already in use by another hyperlink." I've been at this for about a day. If I were a smarter guy I might have given up a while ago, but I am stubborn. I know that I am missing something simple. Actually, mine works just fine in Javascript too. TestScript(); function TestScript() { var aDoc = app.activeDocument; var fullName = aDoc.fullName; app.activeDocument.close (SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES); app.open (fullName) } Have you tried closing AI and reopening it and running the script fresh? AI notes that there are suggested limits for the number of times that you can open/close documents (can't put my finger on it now) -- might be worth a try.

I have over 60 illustrator files per project (and 20 projects in total) and I need to combine them into a single Illustrator file. Ah, okay -- I didn't know that part, although it may still be advantageous (at least in my mind) to have a flattened version of the source file that you could then place or copy into your new single document. The notion of flattening the artwork simply "flattens" all layers to a single layer. I am assuming there is scripting support for the flattening feature. To see how this works, simply create two shapes (or whatever) and put one shape on one layer and the second shape on the second layer. Now go to the menu dropdown of the Layers panel and choose "Flatten Artwork" and you will see everything go to one layer, which you could rename the layer at that point (per your instructions), save the file to a new name like "OldFileName_Flattened.ai". Do that for all 60 files, then create a script to place (if you want to retain the ability to chgange the source and have the changes manifested in the new composite file) or probably place and embed (again I am speaking hypothetically here as I don't remember the scripting support availability). See I started out in AI and now do that as well as ID, but my head is in ID, as I mentioned before. Virtually EVERYTHING is available in ID to script, whereas AI is somewhat limited. But I am sure that you could find a way, even if it is through actions or DoMenus. What do you think? -TT PS: (edit) I also script in .NET (a rare commodity) and prefer to avoid JS (a bad idea admittedly) which may also be why I may sound a little vague and lacking on scripting details, although I am happy to help.

Howdy big_smile, You are doing a great job at answering your own question, it seems! 😉 Glancing at your post and (of course) not knowing what your original (source) docs look like, one thought occurred to me early on... might it not be easier to 1) open the source document, 2) save it under a new name, then just flatten your atwork and save? It seems to me that would save a lot of work... I'm recently doing more ID scripting so that's where my head is, but would it be worth considering? -TT

All along, when I was referring to the UI equivalent, I was speaking of View > Display Performance > High Quality Display, and (incorrectly) trying to accomplish that with change with: app.DisplayPerformancePreferences.DefaultDisplaySettings = idViewDisplaySettings.idHighQuality In my OP, I mentioned "I am trying to change my display to High Quality in a script after I create a document" and what I meant was that I was looking to change the quality of the display in front of me, despite trying to fix it with an incorrect script line. Sorry for the confusion. So when you said: "That doesn't work for the same reason that the same action in the UI doesn't work" I believe that is where the misunderstanding began. The UI equivalent that you were referring to at that point was (on PC) Edit > Preferences > Display Performance and changing Options:Display to High Quality, thereby changing the defaults. Howdy Again, Dave. First of all, Yahoo!!! on the viewDisplaySetting! After my reply, I googled viewDisplaySetting and you are correct on the SCRIPT fix: here's the VB code: app.ActiveWindow.ViewDisplaySetting = idViewDisplaySettings.idHighQuality So MANY, MANY thanks for that. When some of my hair grows back in, I'll retry the MenuAction attempt to get to the "High Quality Display" on the Menu -- which brings me to my second point... Like I said, the UI High Quality Display DOES work (at least for me), which was why I considered trying to get to it via a MenuAction in the first place after being initially unsuccessful. Had the UI "not" worked, I wouldn't have even pursued the MenuAction approach. I certainly respect your startement, but I'm just throwing this out there for what it's worth. Now here's a caveat -- my "images" are usually AI imports, so maybe THAT makes a difference. Once, again, though, thank you for your help. Kindest regards, TT

Hi, I am trying to change my display to High Quality in a script after I create a document. I am aware of the limitations having to do with previously placed images, but the InDesign menu item isn't even getting checked to the High Quality Display. I have tried moving to a MenuACtion, but I am having problems with that too... 😞 Is there any reason why this shouldn't work? I am not getting any error = it is just not doing anything. Howdy Dave! You are correct... I found a work around in the interim and was getting around to posting it, but I am glad that I waited because it makes sense. I think that I just need to slow down... 🙂 Here's the syntax (for anyone who needs it) on your suggestion that works: If Not HasValue(curRow.Cells(gitc + 1).Texts(1).Contents)... Of course you need the function from my OP. Note that .NET COM refs use base 1 instead of base 0. My workaround was kind of similar, using a new function just for Cells: If Not CellHasValue(curRow.Cells(gitc + 1)) Then... Greetings, Folks. This is driving me nuts. I can replicate the problem over and over again. Am I missing a reason why cell.contents would be evaluated differently if in overset condition than not? I don't get it… Here's the scenario. CS6, Win7, VB.Net (but the logic is easy so stay with me…). Object in question is a 3 cell row containing values in the respective cells: Text value, double value, double value. Here's the problem code. (gitc=1 in all these test cases) If Not HasValue(curRow.Cells(gitc + 1).Contents) Then Here's the simple function called by the line above: Private Function HasValue(value As Object) As Boolean If IsDBNull(value) OrElse value = "" Then Return False Else Return True End Function Here's the problem. The code works as intended provided that the referenced row is not in overset condition, the object resolves to a text value and two double values, from which the function returns the proper evaluation. But if the row is in overset condition, the object resolves to three empty Strings ("") and consequently the function returns the wrong evaluation. Here the rub. If I take lengthen (or shorten) the column which puts a DIFFERENT row in the overset place, the same result occurs to that different row, so I know that it is not the values. Hi All, I am trying to select the only TextFrame in a document via the "inport" to load it into the PlaceGun (assumedly) and then place the Textframe with Autoflow option ON at the top left margin to allow it to autoflow in the document. Is this possible? It appears to me that the PlaceGun only accepts file arguments so I don't know how to select the inport or load the PlaceGun with a TextFrame (or if it is even possible). I'll keep looking for a way -- I just want to make sure that it's possible before I waste any more of my time. CS6/Win7/.NET Non-Language Thoughts: aDoc.TextFrames.FirstItem.Select ?? Given your articulate RFP, I suspected that something was amiss here, not the least of which was the fact that the numbers seemed to have been misinterpreted, I knew what was happening and probably why it was happening before I posted, so I was just trying to diplomatically (or not?!?) trying to alert both parties of a problem. You are (in my opinion and I think others' as well) perfectly fine in posting the listing here. How else would anyone know about your need and a possible opportunity for folks here that are able to help? SO that's all good. Where I (at least) felt the problem was/is is the continuing of the "transaction" "on-forum", which you clearly explained how that happened. Empathetic to your potential public disclosure of additional private information (as noted by @Jongware) is why I thought that it might be a good idea to step up and implicitly suggest taking it off-forum, not even knowing "how" it happened on your end. Also good points by @Jongware about the closure of such threads, something that I never really thought about. So, at least from my perspective, keep 'em coming (at least the projects and questions :-)) and please do let everyone know that you were well taken care of by the folks here on this forum by a comment afterwards to "close" the thread as suggested by @Jongware. Hi Guys, I'm not an old-timer here, so maybe I am out of order jumping in here, so forgive me if that is the case. I find it somewhat intriguing to watch business negotiations take place in real time over the forum, especially when the dollars involved seem to be changing (er - edited -- I thought that my mind was playing tricks on me so I had to go back and check my emails) - but it is not my place to get involved in that. Also, while I just glanced at it briefly since I'm busy and not an Applescript guy anyway, it's helpful (and refreshing) to see a pretty job done by Tom on his RFP. Nice job, Tom. But having said all that, here's what I find myself asking myself... is this really the place, beyond a simple request for assistance and/or a brief business proposition, to be posting the details of the proposed transaction? I think not, at least it were my business negotiation. And I don't mean to be overly critical, either, as I said, maybe this goes on all the time and I am just not following closely enough. Hi Folks, Seems that I have found an answer. I thought that I tried this, but I forgot that I had a DIFFERENT routine putting a graphic inbetween two of the tables and the graphic should have been the last table -- and, so, everytime that I saw the graphic in between the two tables, I thought that I had the same problem since the table content all looks pretty much the same. So I may have fixed the problem hours ago and just kept on trying to solve it again... Aarrgg... So while I still really don't understand WHY any tables go whacko after the overset, here's what fixed it for me when adding another table: tf.Tables.Add(idLocationOptions.idAfter, tf.Paragraphs.LastItem) (where tf = a TextFrame) Hope this helps someone. Hi Folks, I have a script that generates a textframe, then a bunch of tables are essentially laid on top of each other within the TextFrame. Something like this (please pardon the html notation – it's not really like that but you'll get the drift) <Textframe> <Table1> <Table2> <Table3> <Table4> <Table5> <Table6> <Table7> <Table8> <Table9> </Textframe> Everything works fine as long as the column length is deep enough to accomodate the textframe info. However, if the info exceeds the column height, forcing the Textframe to go into Overset, that's where the trouble begins. Once the overset occurs, and I try to cut and paste (Autoflow or manual) the text the tables come out like this: <Textframe> <Table1> <Table2> <Table3> <Table4> <Table5> <Table6> <-- This is the last table that started in the column before <Table9> going into overset. <Table8> <Table7> </Textframe> What IS consistent is that the table AFTER the last table that starts before the overset winds up being at the bottom of the heap, with basically everything after the last "good" table (the last table that started in the column before going "overset") being in reverse order. I've been at this all day, trying idLocationOptions.idAfter – just about anything and everything I could think to throw at it, all to no avail. I am using ID CS6, Win7 and scripting in VB.Net. If you can think of anything to try in VB or Javascript (I am not too good with Applescript although I'll try) PLEASE let me know your thoughts. Thank you very much for any help, TT

I am running VS2013, W7, InDesign CS6 on MSSQL2008R2. Beating myself up over the last day with this same error: An unhandled exception of type 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' occurred in CustomMarshalers.dll (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010108 (RPC_E_DISCONNECTED)) As of the writing of this post, the only apparent workaround is what you have described above - to replace for/each loops with for/next loops. Hi Carlos, Thanks for your persistence and also for sharing your results. I tried it again after reading your last post by adding or deleting a preset and then trying to restore the original export (now that someone enlightened me on how to do that! ;-)) and I see changes to the current 'Print Presets' file (date/time/content changes) but nothing is visibly changed to the menu item even after I close and reload the app. Thinking that the changes were particular to the document, I saved a document and reopened it and still no changes. It's certainly not critical for you to worry about this for me, but perhaps if you see something that I am missing or not doing correctly, please let me know. Hi Carlos, Yes, I'm working in VB.Net. 🙂 you can make your own preset file, Edit->Print Presets...->Export... Haha. Wow -- why didn't I think of that? 😞 So I tested it and the same thing happens -- NOTHING. I tried reversing the parameters and got an error. It looks like Pixxxel Schubser's work around might be a solution, although I haven't tested it. I'm wondering how the line app.documents[0].importPrintPreset ('TheNameOfYourPreset',thePrintPreset); will work, since it looks to me to be pretty similar to what is not working now. Carlos, SInce my post, I've been looking for Print Preset files to try to import one and can't find one. I've looked everywhere. Where are they kept? Or can you PM me one that I can try to import? I can do this just fine with PDF Presets - that works. Interestingly enough, the library lists the syntax as: ImportPDFPreset(FIleSpec as String, [ReplacingPreset As Object]) To me - it seems opposite from the PrintPreset Import which is: ImportPrintPreset(PrintPreset As String, FileSpec as String) Just for giggles, have you tried to reverese the parameters? Wouldn't be the first time that the documentation was "off"... I'd really like to help if I can. Thanks, TT

Search TextRange.Contents in the Scripting Reference PDF for accessing the text box text. As far as finding a particular textbox to use as a source, we'll need some more info on what we have to work with. Try to figure out what you think would be the best way to "snag" a particular entity and we can go from there. If it is possible to post an example, that would be helpful too.
