You also might want to run the following below, which are the offline installers, which is what I prefer for a multitude of reasons: This is an uninstaller for ALL flash versions: http://download.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash_player.exe Then download and install the true installers: Flash Player for Internet Exporer - ActiveX Flash Player for Firefox - NPAPI Flash Player for Opera and Chromium-based browsers - PPAPI I would still go an yank the system files after doing the uninstall , then running the installers below. btw if any mod sees this they need to correct the spelling of explorer on the offline install page. Hopefully you are confident to delete those system files if not, then just try the uninstaller followed by the installs i have listed. Let me save you some time and headache Go here: https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html Windows, plugin based browsers, then choose the msi install, run it ( make sure Firefox, plugin-container, and flashplayer are not running in task manager ) That should get your flash player installed a little easier. this is what I use 100% of the time and bypass the other one. I was asking about something like this earlier this week, not b/c I am having an issue but to help better understand the reason not to delete the system activeX files in win 8.X I recommend not from what I have been told. I am assuming that you went here already: Flash Player Issues | Windows 8 Yes, Chrome has flash player integrated into it, I guess Microsoft is trying to follow in foot, but seems to be failing big time from what I have been seeing. I personally do not have a win 8.X machine in from of me, but you could  try uninstalling an I.E update and re-applying it, or you could try going into the equivalent of turn windows features on or off and uninstalling ( un-checking ) the latest Internet explorer version. I know that's what I would try if I have something borked with IE on a win 7 machine or just image it. I would really just say use Firefox if they can use it b/c its a lot less temperamental and a lot less of a pain than Internet Exploder. You can try a clean install of flash outlined here: How do I do a clean install of Flash Player? However , b/c of you skill level as stated in the original post am reluctant to do so. I have been doing onsite technical support for edu for a decade and can feel when a user is not comfortable doing things like outlined above. I do have a script to DL and will literally mimic the entire process outlined above. It will even download and automatically re-install the flash files so you do not have to do it over again. IF you want to try the adobe method outlined in the above link feel free to. I have one idea left. In the upper right corner of Internet explorer is a gear wheel icon looking thing(depending on your IE version it could be tools),, never the less under that menu is the manage addons menu, click that and once that window opens , you will see a pulldown box towards the lower left, pull it down and make sure that it says all addons like in my screenshot, and towards the top there should be adobe shockwave activeX control, make sure they are enabled. Go to the start orb in the lower left , and in the search box type ' uninstall a program ' click on that. attached is a screenshot of an example of the adobe flash versions You should see npapi and/or ActiveX . The ActiveX version is for Internet Explorer and the npapi is for browsers like firefox . Since you are using IE make sure the ActiveX version is there. If not then we might have to manually download the ActiveX installer from the distribution site and install it from there. How about download the install, and re-boot your machine, log back in and do not launch anything just run the exe to install adobe flash. This way anything that is closed will obviously be closed during a restart and as long as you do not open it after the boot HOPEFULLY you should be fine. Try that ... View more
