Katherine, I see the problem in your example file, but cannot replicate it with new artwork.
Currently using 29.3.1 on a Mac.

But the CMYK version created by the Create Swatch Info has already thrown away all the advantages of printing to a printer that ha more than 4 colors.

They same thing is happening to me, even though I didnt give any permission to Adobe to record my screen. This is an illigal invasion of privacy. If this issue dosent stop I think the best for all users will be to take legal action.
Apple is lying to you. The message just means that Illustrator has the permission , not that it is actively recording the screen. Just turn off the permission in the system settings.

Another approach with a 2 color gradient across a single stroke:
Color changes are best done with Recolor Artwork, which will automatically create a new 2 color gradient.

Can you give some more details about what is happening? Some screendumps and info on Color Settings can help.

The fact that they keep stating they are "unable to replicate the issue" is almost as frustrating as this issue itself. Of course they are unable to replicate because it is something that happens randomly! Sometimes I go days without it happening even one time and other days it happens between every single new file I make (for context I am creating around x10-x25 new files per day, all with different sizes and bleed settings as well). This has been happening for over a year now, and is extremely dangerous for me specifically because I am working with print production files for large format event signage which need to be extrememly accurate in order to fit dims provided by our CAD department for custom structures. I have to triple check every time I make a new file that my sizes match what I intend to avoid expensive reprints. I have gotten into the habit now of verifying my entered sizes, but this should not be happening with software that we pay so much for. Its actually unacceptable.

If you need Illustrator for that specific purpose, you can install an older version like the 2024 version.
If you want to let the developers know your problem, mention it here:

"There may be large format printers to do CMYKOG"
There are many.
In fact, my own printer (an HPz3100) has even more: it has 12 inks in total, which include M (Magenta) Y (Yellow) PK (Photo Black) G (Grey) LG (Light Grey) LC (Light Cyan) LM (Magenta) R (Red - which is really more of deep orange) G (Green) and B (Blue - richer and more vibrant than Cyan), along with a MK (Matte Black) and a GE (Gloss Enhancer).
(The extra Blacks and Greys are mostly for superior full-range B&W photo printing, but are also used for full colour work)
It's imperative that this be a color-managed workflow and requires RGB data to take advantage of the wider gamut.
(You will notice there's actually no Cyan – Between the Blue ink and the Light Cyan ink, it covers everything a Cyan would do, so it is unnecessary.). I typically send AdobeRGB data and it's gorgeous.
Also, for my design work, the extra inks allow me to print more than 90% of the Pantone library accurately, whereas a typical CMYK printer can barely handle 20%.
In these printers, the "Light" inks are there to alleviate the problem with sthe catter-dot process an ink-jet uses, as the inkjet "dots" are a fixed size, so at the light end of a color gradient (say between 0-5%) theses dots are very obvious and far apart, so the light inks "fill things in" for a much smoother result.

Definately a bug. I also cannot scale or rotate pattern. Checking the "Transform Patterns" Option also checks the "Transform Objects" checkbox so they both rotate. If i then click OFF on the Transform Objects button the item rotate to its original position as does the pattern. Scale pattern also only works intermittantly. This happens when I have just a single object selected.

Thanks for answers all. The group thing didn't work for me (I know it would in other instances). In my case Solution was: Select object > Go to Appearance tab > Double click on the line that says "Contents" (see attached pic). Within that the object had three or four "Opacity" instances applied to it, one of which was set to 50%, I selected it and deleted it. I think the issue occured due to importing .svgs to AI from Matlab. Good luck!

I just had this issue with a file and made a very brief video tutorial. https://youtu.be/vDgH7TEFqVA?feature=shared Essentially, you can rename your linked file causing the issue so it breaks the link, then you can open the file in illustrator and place the image after you save it as a JPG or another supported file type.

Hi @miah_7717
Apologies for the delay! I hope the issue is resolved by now. If not, I'm here to help. Ton's suggestion to preview on CPU is a good one, as it might just be a graphic glitch rather than an issue with the actual artwork.
If switching to CPU Preview hasn't helped, could you try placing the same PNG on a new file with a colored background to see how it looks? If that doesn't work, please share the PNG file with us so I can check it on my end.
Regards,
Srishti

Note, that when you place and Embed an image in Illustrator (say a JPG), it will store the image data uncompressed, so your options when Unembedding are either PSD or TIF in its original resolution when embedded. This in itself is good, however, any embedded image takes on the Color Space set for your document (either CMYK or RGB) using the corresponding profile in your Color Settings.
e.g. if you embed an RGB image with AdobeRGB profile into a CMYK document, the image data will be converted to the CMYK profile set in your Color settings (e.g. SWOP Web Coated), and this is what will be exported when you Unembed. You will not get back the original wider gamut Adobe RGB image as it no longer exists.
(This is another reason I never recommend embedding images, especially color-managed ones.)
