My text just seems so "plopped on." Even with gradients, dropshadows etc. Like the cover I did Betrayed Heroes. It's got a gradient and it just looks so plopped on. Other covers like Saving Baby (I did not do the cover), The Last Monument, Billy the Kid, they all have such great text that looks so professionally done. How can I make text like that? Thanks.

I want to run a gradient through two words (on top of each other--see attachment) on adjacent layers. It can be done on PS but I could find no way of doining it on my PE19. Any ideas? I know I can have both words on the same layer but that throws off the spacing. Thanks

Thanks very much, Jeff. That reset did the trick. I can now use the brush with the eraser tool. And erasing with the brush seems much more nuanced, more feathered if you will, than it did with the pencil. I think you've answered both my questions with the reset. Many thanks.

#1) The brush tool ("type") doesn't work with the eraser tool. Only the pencil and block work. #2) So I use the pencil tool and it has brushes, but I'm used to GIMP which has these really dispersed brushes where it's easy to kind of feather the things I erase. I can't find a way of doing that with PE. Yes, I can lower the opacity, but however I erase in PE there is a clean line of demarcation, which is what I don't want. How can I get that feathering effect with the eraser tool? Thank you

I have a box with three DVDs to install Photoshop Elements 10. I want to install it on a Windows 64 bit computer. There are no instructions other than on the DVDs. DVD #1 says: "To install for Windows start with Disc 1." DVD #2 says the same thing. And DVD #3 is for Mac. Then I found this site https://community.adobe.com/t5/Photoshop-Elements/FAQ-Installing-Elements-10-or-What-do-all-these-disks-do/td-p/4332154 that says DVD#2 is for a Windows 64 bit computer. When I put DVD#2 into the computer, I was expecting on-screen intructions to follow, but there were none. So I opened the DVD with the file manager and there are all these files. I did manage to find an .exe file, and I assumed that I needed to double click that to start the installation, but I figured I'd ask here first to see if that was the best (or wrong) way to go. I was at a used book sale and I bought what I thought was a book about Photoshop. When I got home and went to read it (lol), I realized it was DVDs. I figured they were tutorials on how PE works but the DVDs wouldln't play. Then (lol) my lightning quick mind realized they were actually installation DVDs. My question is would this be a free trial or full version? (It seems quite elaborate for a free trial. There are three DVDs in a nice case and there's a serial # on the back of the case that says Photoshop Elements RET.) Thanks.

Thanks Jeff. If the .png is flattened and I then enter it into a psd, the the png (its layer) will still be able to be manipulated (using the transform tool, reducing image size etc), right?

Couldlnt' save my .png file as a png file or mabye it did save it, but the asterisk was still there as if it hadn't been saved, so I Googled around and found this 'save as web' workaround but that of course changed the res to 72. (It was at 300.) Then I finally Xed out of the screen and when I did it asked me yet again if I wanted to save it. I did and it saved. All I can think of is I converted and .eps to .svg in Zamzar converter. https://www.zamzar.com/ Maybe that did it? Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you have the suggested crops option turned on, it looks to me like the first suggestion does crop the WxH pixel dimensions from the center, but I couldn't be sure in my quick experiment. Yeah, I couldn't be sure either, and the more I experimented, the more I thought it didn't. Given these problems, and my assumption that BadStar had probably already tried the crop tool, I thought the Resize>Canvas Size was a simple and elegant solution. Indeed, it was. Thanks. And thanks for explaining about it cropping, rather than re-sizing.

Thanks hatstead. I did just what you said following these instructions perfectly. But when it came to #3 the bounding box did not go over the entire image. Specifically it would only cover 1838X2757. I tried over and over but that's what kept happening. Experimenting, I noticed that working with a smaller image the bounding box covered the entire thing.

I took a file that was 1.3 MB in PE to crop it in GIMP 2.8. I only cropped a very small amount. I wanted the same image quality, so I saved it at 100%. The resulting file was 4.3MB. I tried again and I think GIMP adjusted things automatically because it was set at 93% and the file size was 1.2. But I'm trying to understand how my 1.3MB file could end up a 4.3MB. The 1.3MB file was saved at the "maximum setting" in PE. Thanks.

I'm in PE2019 and I want to take an image that's 1838X2775 and crop it so it's 1800X2700. So shaving 9 px off each side and 37.5 (or round up to 38px) from both the top and the bottom. Thank you.

Great explanation, Michel. Thank you. My biggest concern would be the quality of the image online (since I sell very few print books). But regardless, it seems like one way or another the vector layers in PE are going to be turned into bitmap either by me (by flattening) or Amazon or a printer, right? So the main advantage of the text being vector (and is the text vector in GIMP?) is the flexibility of being able to change its size without loss of clarity, right? But the idea of it being a sharper image is lost because the vector is rasterized, right? (Or perhaps it's sharper because it starts sharper?)
