Here's how System> Library> Java folder looks after running the terminal codes: (I'm slightly curious if uninstalling/reinstalling Illustrator would have worked without installing Java since it seems Apple doesn't like Java)? Now I have to watch I keep Java updated (I will be switching another 2011 Macbook Pro over to 10.10.2 and will try the reinstall without installing the Java)...

THIS WORKED FOR ME RATHER EFFORTLESSLY (installed the latest Java from Oracle and running the 2 terminal codes) from Kals #7:
Why not install the latest version of Java from Oracle (currently Java 8) and try the solution I linked to? You can create the folders manually in the Finder, or just copy and paste the following commands into the Terminal (one at a time of course) to create them automatically:
sudo mkdir -p /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk
sudo mkdir -p /System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle
Saved Me from uninstall/reinstall Adobe...

My 10.10.2 system navigates like this HD> System> Library> Java (shown below): i don't have a JavaVirtualMachines> 1.6.0.jdk or a Support> Deploy.bundle in the java folder above, am i supposed to make a new folder "JavaVirtualMachines" and make a new folder in that folder called "1.6.0.jdk" -- for example, is that what you mean? do you have a screenshot in column view of how it is supposed to look? thanks...

so confused with all the advice over this everywhere i'm looking just updated a 2011 macbook pro to 10.10.2 - now illustrator cs6 won't open it gets "To open “Adobe Illustrator CS6.app” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." the link goes to Java for OS X 2014-001 also About Java for OS X 2014-001 - Apple Support but those pages say "Download the latest version of Java for OS X directly from Oracle. Download the latest version of Java for OS X directly from Oracle." i did downloaded from here https://www.java.com/en/download/mac_download.jsp?locale=en and rebooted several times still no joy all os and apps up to date -- i'm really going to hate this is the fix is to uninstall all my adobe apps and reinstall them -- does reinstalling actually work -- is that what i'm missing (it worked great before I upgraded 10.10 over 10.8

pixel images are rastered images, i recall Photoshop has to raster Illustrator vector data into pixels to do what you are doing probably better to read up on the subject from a more qualified source... using my suggested method -- open the .ai directly in Photoshop -- and pick the target raster settings (your pixel width or height) for the sharpest raster -- i avoid resizing those types of raster images because the process can degrade them pretty rapidly

. i don't see the problem - it is what i would expect is the 600 pixel the freshly-rastered image in Photoshop or the Save for Web document reopened maybe a different font would translate better to that size? again, remember always evaluate pixels in Photoshop at View> 100% (actual pixels)

here is an example sceenshot of the opening dialog (.ai opened directly in Photoshop) your illustrator vector should be rastered sharp at 100% actual Pixels in Photoshop that is where you want to evaluate sharpness in Photoshop... then File> Save for Web & Devices (and drag that saved file icon into an open web browser) still no joy, embed your saved image here using the forum's camera icon...

my test print for 8 months now, is of a flower of an extremely unusual color. Since I know the color of this flower in nature I am using this as my benchmark. On the screen it is the vivid and true sky-blue-hue, and background is vivid coastal Australian green first it sounds like you may have OUT OF GAMUT COLORS that SOFT PROOFING (Photoshop View> Proof SetUp> Custom) may be able to help figure it out i would start you off troubleshooting your workflow with a copy of the Getty-Photodisc Image PDI WHACKED RGB .JPG and review the PHOTOSHOP MANAGES COLORS WORK FLOW basics...

i would suggest downloading the Photoshop demo and opening it in trial mode, that will give you the latest camera raw plugin and the ability to work on and save your images out in .psd, .tif, .jpg (i think the trial works for 30 days)

pixel dimensions are what count (not resolution ppi/dpi) if you don't change pixel dimensions, i would not expect to see any changes in Ps preview (or document size) or i missed something...

so sure things won't work! just my gut feeling, Noel my first Mac was a Centris 650 (system 7.5) and i bought G3 and G4 boxes when they first came out (i skipped G5) and still have a 1,1 Mac Pro 2006 working 10.5x was a disaster with Ps CS 3&4 on the 2006 Mac Pro (in hindsight probably due more to the Apple OEM 7300 video cards that never got fixed) i've also bought every Ps from PS2.5 and seen my share of bugs... but to illustrate my point, you only need to look at the GPU video driver problems Ps CS6 had with BOTH Windows and Mac (and how many updates from Apple/Windows/video manufacturers it took to get them working together) i just don't see Adobe, Apple or video manufactures spending any time at all with next generation bugs/conflicts on discontinued software, including CS6, and i expect to see them early on when the new OSes and hardware come out...

if you think in terms of ten or twenty years. i am thinking in terms months when the new Mac Pro ships with 10.9.0 just look at the problems (especially Apple OS-X GPU issues) Ps had with 10.5.0, 10.6.0, 10.7.0 and 10.8.0, some never will get fixed but the people who find themselves in a hard place will be those who buy new machines (my example, the new Mac Pro) i would bet against Ps CS6 running reliabley on new Mac computers in 2-3 years, and can't imagine trying to run CS6 on a new machine 10-20 years from now so i am not sure your point

don't worry, your copy of CS6 will be viable for some time to come. unless you move to a new GUI (video card), unsupported camera, or OS bugs that Adobe will no longer workaround (on discontinued products) just look at the new Mac Pros how do you expect CS6 (CS5) will run on one of these under 10.8 (if it is even possible), or 10.9 progress is inevitable... TomBrooklyn, the wider-gamut, high-bit color spaces are useful for utilizing the hardware that can capture them, and editing/archiving in those color spaces is useful for preserving as much information as possible... if you were in the audio recording business, and had the equipment to record/edit in a much higher professional quality than current consumer players can output, would you not +++++ the only thing your monitor (and printer) do is allow you to 'proof' your theoretical source colors (i wouldn't think too hard on this one any more than if your stereo speakers aren't playing every sound) but personally, i kinda like short direct answers when i'm lost because it's nice to know where i made the wrong turn or simple directions how to reach my destination most effectively

if you upload an image (or write) to a discussion board such as the one you find yourself on, Adobe now will have the right to a "worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, transferable, and sublicensable license" (to adapt, display, distribute, modify, perform, publish, reproduce, translate, and use Your Shared Material)...?!! Holy Sh¡t!!! Not only can they appropriate your image (and writing) to use for themselves, but they can also sublicense it to third parties! ya, very scary i recall reading that Micro$oft has the legal authority (by agreeing to their software installer licensing terms) to come to your house or business and seize your computers if they have evidence you are violating the agreement... and there are news stories that seem to validate they actually do this on a regular basis personally, i'm not too worried about Adobe plagiarizing my pros (enough people steal from me on a daily basis i would go nutty going after all the thiefs), and i've always used legitimate licenses to fear knocks on my door

when Monitor RGB is selected in Proof Setup it is not possible to activate Gamut Warnings toggle Proof Colors off then View> Gamut Warning (the warning color highlights your out-of-gamut colors) if you want to see the visual difference between your monitor space and sRGB open a tagged sRGB document (use the embedded profile) View> Proof Setup: Monitor RGB toggle on/off the color change is the difference between your Monitor space and sRGB Soft Proof OFF, Photoshop is using "monitor compensation" (Photoshop is converting the Source colors to your monitor profile) Soft Proof ON (Monitor RGB), Photoshop is sending your RGB 'numbers' straight through to the monitor uncompensated for...

okay, i am pretty sure Photoshop reads a profile and converts colors to the monitor profile (Source>MonitorRGB) it sounds like you are saying Bridge is adding an extra step in the process, but let me speculate on what you wrote: Bridge generates a 'preview' image in its cache (Source>sRGB), and displays its 'preview' (sRGB>MonitorRGB)?

all previews in Bridge are in fact in sRGB i probably don't understand what you mean, but if you are saying Bridge only converts tagged RGB documents to sRGB then shouldn't your previously posted wide-gamut screenshot show an obvious red oversaturation in your Bridge preview because it looks identical to Photoshop to me
