Thank you. You have clearly and completely explained the behaviors I noticed. Your explanation taught me a good deal about the handling of raw files in Photoshop.

I'm not sure what you mean by "doesn't work." I find that there are several conditions where the "Reflections" check box is disabled ("Reflections" is in gray). This includes any time I open a .nef from Lightroom Classic (CNTL- or Command- e), or when I click "Open" or "Open Object" and then try to use it from Camera Raw Filter. I thought this might have to do with the existence of an .xmp file, but If I open directly in PS and there is an existing .xmp file, I can still check the "Reflections" box. Otherwise, it seems to work well in most cases. For an exception, see my reply from 12/26 (last one on that date).

In this photo, the left side features a mannequin head behind a glass storefront window. In the right side, we see another storefront window intersecting at a 90º angle. (There is no mannequin head behind the right side window). The camera is pointing at the intersedtion of the two windows, so the angle of the camera is 45º to each window. Reflection removal does not seem to recognize that the right window mannequin head is in fact a refection. This can be confirmed by comparing the +100 and -100 views.

At the bottom of the application frame in Photoshop (25.11.0), is the image size. In my case, it is given in inches and resolution (e.g. 8.5 in x 11 in (300 ppi). Not too long ago, it used to be in megapixels. How do I customize the information in the application frame?

It appears that LrC does not recognize WebP files as candidates for import. Finder > Open With Lightroom Classic does not work for WebP files. WebP files are not automatically imported when they are added to a watched folder. Photoshop has no problem opening WebP files. This is increasingly important because Midjourney saves images as WebP when they have been upscaled by Upscale (4x).

I am using PS 25.1.0 (not beta) and MacOs Ventura 13.5.2. When I try to create people with generative fill the results are generally disappointing--malformed limbs, defective heads, unrealistic expressions. I have seen some mention in tutorials of how to correct some of the problems by regenerating small sections (e.g. a hand) of a generated layer. What I'm looking for here is either confirmation from the community that this is an ongoing concern or suggestions on how to avoid these problems. I feel like I can't be the only one having this experience. (Take a look at the attached file unless you're concerned about having nightmares--and this is not the worst of the three choices.)

Greetings, Rikk, and Happy New Year. Thanks for taking the time to think about my question. Using the browser interface, I see the same as in Lightroom (cloud-based) on the laptop and on my Android phone. That is, two versions: the psd file without the key line and border and the tif file with the key line and border. In LrC, both versions have the key line and border. Also, I tried the process with a different image file, and the psd version made it to Lightroom (cloud-based) with all the Photoshop changes (key line and border) intact. So this appears to be a one-off. I'm thinking there must be something strange in the original psd file such that it does not sync properly from LrC to Lr.

I've noticed something wierd between Lightroom 6.1 on macOS Monterey 12.6.1 and other devices and Lightroom Classic 12.1, also on the Mac. I begin with a psd file in LrC, using CMD-E to edit it in Photoshop 2023 (Adobe Photoshop Version: 24.1.0 20221206.r.166 be4691b x64). I use Image > Canvas Size to create a key line and border, and the Horizontal Type Tool to add text to the border. The result is saved and shows up as expected in LrC. (See Bluestone XV_THB1404-Edit.IG.psd.) I then add this image to a collection for which "sync to Lightroom" is checked. When I look at Lightroom (not Classic) on the Mac or my Android phone, the added key line and border are missing. (I couldn't seem to get Lr to export a psd file, so I exported it as a jpeg: Bluestone XV-LR.jpg. You'll have to take my word for it that it looks that way in Lr. If, on the other hand, when I am in Photoshop and File > Save As to save it as a tif file and then add that file to the same collection, the key line and border (with text) are present as expected. In LrC, both images appear with the key line, border and text, whereas in cloud-based Lightroom, they appear in the tif file, but not the psd. What could be going on here?

I cannot seem to open .nef images in Photoshop using Lightroom Classic Photo > Edit In > Edit in Photoshop 2023. . . Likewise with Command-e. It appears from an earlier post that this problem has been resolved in some way, but the thread that supposedly contains the answer is not available. Lightroom Classic 12.0.1 Camera Raw 15.0 Photoshop 24.0.0 macOS Monterey 12.6 Invoking Edit In. . . starts Photoshop if it is not already active or switches to the active Photoshop screen if it is active. But Camera Raw does not appear, neither does the image seem to be read by Photoshop. The same problem affects .dng files, but everything seems to work fine with .psd files. My Lightroom Classic External Editing preferences are PSD; ProPhoto RGB; 16 bits/component; 360, respectively. It doesn't get any better if I close Photoshop and restart Lightroom. I'm just self-deprecating enough to assume this is somehow my fault. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I have a folder with three .jpg files, four .nef files, four corresponding .xmp files and one .psd file. I am trying to import these files into LrC, but the import dialog only shows one .jpg file, the four .nef files and the one .psd file. So two other .jpg files are not recognized. They can be opened, however, in both Photoshop 2023 and Preview 11.0 with no problems. Looking at the original folder with Bridge, everything appears as it should, including the two "missing" .jpg files. Notes: macOS Monterey Version 12.6; Lightroom Classic 12.0.1. This began to appear as a problem after I tried to move some of the files from one folder to another in Lightroom Classic by displaying them in folder 1 and dragging them to folder 2. When that failed, I tried some other things (which I cannot remember entirely). I eventually rebooted the computer, created a new catalog and tried to import from the original folder, but again two of the .jpg files were ignored. They do not even show in the import dialog. I have included the two .jpg files. Will someone please tell me what obvious step I have forgotten or ignored?

Curiouser and curiouser! I decided to try Edit > Presets > Export/Import Presets on a Windows machine. It worked just as I would expect it to from the Adobe documentation. Back to macOS, I started clean with a new folder I called “Hidden.” I exported an action set and a workspace, and Photoshop said all was well. But I couldn’t find the exported presets under the “Hidden” folder, or anywhere else for that matter. So just for fun, I ran the Export process again, once more using the apparently empty “Hidden” folder. This time, I got the following panel: Now it’s telling me there’s an existing folder, but it’s one that I can’t see. So I click “Yes,” and get another warning This is good, because it tells me exactly where it intends to put the stuff. Again, I click “Yes,” and again it says it’s successful, and again I can’t find the Exported Presets in the Hidden folder. Photoshop clearly thinks there’s something there, but Finder can’t find it. Even going to the Terminal application, switching to super user, navigating to the Hidden directory and entering ls -lac does not reveal anything but the current and parent directories (. and ..), much less Exported presets. Having been retired for twelve years now, I’m a little rusty on my Unix, but I’m beginning to think this is not so much a Photoshop problem as a macOS problem. I guess I’ll ask the Apple folks about it.

Rather than deal with a whole bunch of presets, I decided to try exporting one simple preset. In Photoshop 2022, I created an action set which I called ZZZTom (to make it easy to find). In that action set, I recorded a new action, called ZZZAdj, which just created a solid color adjustment layer filled with red. After verifying that the action worked, I highlighed ZZZTom, clicked on the hamburger in the upper right of the Actions panel and clicked on Save Actions. . . . After saving the action, I looked in Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop 2022/Presets/Actions and verified that ZZZTom.atn was saved there. Next, I followed the source computer steps under “Export and import presets” found on the pagehttps://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preset-migration.html. These are the procedures I described in the original post. For the export folder I chose /Users/tomhackett/Temp presets. After receiving the message that the export was successful, I inspected the folder and found it empty. It seems to me that I have followed all of the correct procedures. What went wrong?

I am running Photoshop 2022 (23.4.2) on Mac (Monrerey 12.5). I am trying to export presets for safekeeping and to eventually use them in the current Photoshop Beta. So, I open Photoshop 2022 and click Edit > Presets > Import/Export Presets. In the Export/Import Presets window, I click on the Export Presets tab. In the Your Presets panel are a list of presets, some of which I move to the Presets to Export panel. I now either highlight the presets or I don't (it doesn't seem to matter) and click Export Presets. It asks me for a preset folder. I select Temp Presets, an empty folder I created for this purpose, and click Open. In response, I get a little window that says "Presets have been successfully exported." I then look at the Temp Presets folder in Finder (which gives a size of Zero bytes) and find nothing. What am I doing wrong?

That's true, but it brings up an interesting point. I learned to soft proof an image using the ICC profile of the target paper/printer combination. That invariably changes the appearance of the image on my (calibrated) display. I then apply various adjustments to bring the tonality and color of the image back to what it looked like before applying the profile. This is not a fix, but a standard step in the color management process. I'd be interested to hear what other work flows people use to align their images to the particular paper/printer combination they are using. Having said that, the adjustments I now seem to need for a good final print go beyond what makes the proof look correct--less contrast, especially in the shadow areas. This is indeed not a fix. I don't really know what the cause of the problem is. I consider it a workaround.

Thanks to all who responded. The most useful change I made was to creaate a new curves adjustnent layer to reduce shadow contrast. I did this after replacing the MK cartridge, recalibrating the display and cleaning the nozzels seemed to have little effect. The curves adjustment seems to have worked, but I'm still not sure why.

Prints I made today are noticably darker than the last time I printed, especially in shadow areas. Before jumping to the conclusion that my monitor is too bright, please hear me out. I have been printing with acceptable results for several years, including last week. The only changes made since then have been: Upgrading to Photoshop 23.4.1 Replacing the matte black ink cartridge. My environment also includes MacBook Pro (15 inch, 2017) running macOS Monterey version 12.4 and Epson Stylus Photo R1900 (old, but quite reliable). I am using Hahnemühle Bamboo and Canson Edition Etching (with similar results for each). My monitor is calibrated regularly, and I soft proof before sending images to the printer. Just to make sure my monitor had not suddenly lost its calibration of taken it upon itself to adjust the white point automatically, I copied the PSD file to another computer (desktop, also calibrated, running Windows 10 and the corresponding release of Photoshop), and did not see any darkening on that system. My hunch is that something screwy has gone wrong with the matte black. Fortunately, a new cartridge is due to be delivered tomorrow. I can test to see if that makes a difference. Meanwhile, I wanted to ask if anyone else has seen something similar with Photoshop 23.4.1. Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you Johan. So here's how I eliminated the problem: In LrC, with the problem photo selected, I clicked Library > Previews > Discard 1:1 Previews followed by Library > Previews > Build 1:1 Previews. [Earlier, I tried Library > Previews > Discard Smart Previews followed by Library > Previews > Build Smart Previews. This had no effect.] So, I still do not know what caused the problem (and I am unable to recreate it), but now my image is repaired and syncs to Lr fine. My guess is that there was a crash or something like that as the previous 1:1 preview was being built. I would be surprised to see the problem again, but now I have some clues as to what to try in order to fix it if it does.

Hello Sahil, Resetting the Photoshop preferences did not help. I believe the problem is with Lightroom Classic, not Photoshop. I noticed further that when going from the Library module in LrC to the Develop module, the same problem occurs. It does not occur in the Library, Print, Slideshow or Web modules. I have not seen or been able to recreate this problem with any other images or files, including a copy of the image in question by executing Image > Duplicate. . . in Photoshop. So I guess this was a transient error that I cannot reproduce.

I imported a photo into Lightroom Classic (11.1). After some basic development steps, I opened it in Photoshop (23.1.0). In PS I created a composite, adding two layers. I saved the result (with all layers visible) as a PSD file. In LrC, it appeared correct, with the information from all layers included. I then added the image to a synced collection. (I made a few additional edits in PS, always using the Edit Original option.) After all sync operations were complete, I opened Lightroom (on both the desktop and Android) and discovered that the image appeared as if it included only Layer 0. (Additionally, in the LrC filmstrip and on the Android it had a strange aspect ratio. The aspect ratio is correct when I view the full size image in Lr on the desktop.) As an experiment, I opened the image in PS, clicked on Layer > Flatten Image and saved it to a different PSD file. Back in LrC, I added this image to the same synced collection. The flattened image looks correct in all versions of LR. Is it expected that I should flatten PSD images before syncing them with LR? What else might account for this? I should say that I have made many, many composites and multi-layered images in the past and never had a problem with images synced to LR. Note: the uploaded file has been downsampled to fit the 47 mb maximum size requirements of the discussion. (I am running macOS Catalina 10.15.7.)

The space is the key! How it got there is another question! My problem was that in scrolling through the keyword list, I initially found "Lucy Parish" and deleted it. I failed to go further into the list, where, thanks to your suggestion, I found " Lucy Parish". Once I deleted that, the problem seems to have gone away. The funny thing is how this came about in the first place. I seem to have entered the keyword initially as St. Lucy Parish, which Lightroom seems to have interpreted as >St > Lucy Parish I guess the right answer is to leave off the period, typing St Lucy Parish, or perhaps spelling out Saint Lucy Parish. The image that was initially keyworded was shot in St. Lucy Parish, Barbados.
