@patricktheart  If you lose your preferences in minor dot updates, something's wrong, like not having full administrator privileges in your user account.   With a major whole-number version update, preferences do not carry over, they never have. There is an option to migrate preferences, but I don't recommend it because of the high risk of accumulated errors carrying over as well.   As for actions, brushes, anything that can be saved out - save out and keep it in a safe place. I'm having a problem where none of my Photoshop or Illustrator files are saving with the correct file extension unless I manually type the dot psd or dot jpg, etc. etc. This never happened before. I checked the preferences in each creative cloud program and double checked that my imac uses file extensions all the time, but this has only started since I upgraded to MacOSCatalina. Feh...all power to the independently wealthy.  My monthly costs have risen massively because of all the software companies making this move.  I will soon have to choose between my car and my tools for making a living.  I have NO options.  I can't buy an older version of the software (have been doing this for years).  I cannot resell my older software.  I have no way to keep a version that I have learned and that works for me and am forced to keep up with ever accelerating changes with NO way to forecast when they will occur or what the re-learning will cost.  I see a whole legion of people like me who saw the promise of project based internet work and staying off disability or helping pay for their long life whilst being considered too old to work.  This model is simply going to add to the growing discontent and animosity towards big business.  There have been many, many times in history where the overly greedy got what they deserved. ... And yes, I do have InDesignCC now, but I want to work on my project in a college classroom that only has CS6 on the computers...and so I want to use it at home to transport back and forth and without saving to CS4-level. ...
