It turns out that the problem is associated with my Wacom tablet. When I perform the above function with just the mouse, they still work fine. The Wacom tablet seems to have a lag, and sometimes it just seems to ignore my pen drops. I'm working this our with Wacom now. It has nothing to do the the 15 plugins I have. It never has, but that was a good idea to check. I also went through the performance checklist and found no issues.

I have been using LRC for years, and something is not right with this release. No, it's not related to antivirus SW becuase this problem has never occured before like this. I have NOT changed anythings between releases of LRC. So, something is probably wrong with this release as opposed to my settings. Two major issues: masking and cropping seem to stutter.
Masking. If I try to edit an existing filter or add a new filter to a mask, nothing seems to happen for several seconds. Sometimes all too often when I add a new object, I have to wait forever for the selection cursor to become available. Then, I trace the object, and nothing happens. Then, I retrace it, and it works fine. This happens over and over again. I can see the same problems in brushes as well. Cropping also lats. Actually, even zooming the view can take forever. This is really strange.

I did it a bit differently, but to the same effect. After seeing where the plugin was being installed, I redirected the install location to the proper location for PS24. It worked fine. Kevin's solution would probably have worked as well.

I came across this thread, trying to figure out why my desktop (Win10) would not import images after the LR Classic October 2020 upgrade. I tried everything. I tried it on my laptop, after upgrading to the October 2020 release, and it worked there! Then I started to notice that I was having trouble with the file tree browser function in Windows Explorer, and then system shutdown started taking over 10 minutes! I couldn't figure it out, but I suspected that maybe the LR issue was related to everything else. After trying many things mentioned in this thread to no avail, I disconnected my only peripheral drive, a Sony XQD/SD Card Reader. Just removing the card reader fixed every problem I described above. My suspicion is that I had an XQD card in the drive. The XQD card was disconnected, but maybe it was making intermittent contact to the reader, causing some interference. But, once I disconnected the drive, removed the card, rebooted, and went back into LR, everything worked fine. BTW, I was also able to reconnect the card reader. So, I suspect that it was an intermittent contact issue.

I fully expect that most requests are for new features, and I certainly always want new features. But, that doesn't mean that simple, small improvements to existing features could greatly improve the human factors involved in program operation. I guess the bit question is how do you get a completely simple solution to a known problem fixed without having hundreds of comments about this feature.

I use Wacom tablet, and it will not adversely affect performance. In fact if you are real fast, I tend to get "close" sometimes, and then the whole panel will disappear.

This topic gets hit from time to time. Lots of comments about the same problem. But, Adobe never responds. Do they read these at all? I often wonder. There several suggestions for a simple fix, but nothing is ever done. While there have been lots of great feature upgrades, this is a general usability issue, and apparently it's not important to Adobe.

There is no way to lock the panels. But, read the comments about "solo" mode above. That doesn't fix the actual problem, but it did alleviate my aggravation quite a bit. While I haven't worked on a Mac in years, so I cannot compare mouse use on a PC versus a Mac. But, I have had no problems with my mouse's scrolling behavior on the several Windows boxes I have used. It may be a function of the particular mouse you are using, though. I doubt it is inherent in Windows. How old is your mouse. I assume it's optical, but does it use lasers for tracking? In 2009, Logitech came out with "darkfield" technology" which uses lasers for tracking. They work on virtually any surface, even glass, and are extremely accurate.

Yes, I have also learned that scrolling problems of the tools panel can be avoided by using solo mode. It works quite well, and it's my preferred way to work in LR. However, it is still unfortunate that Adobe cannot address a problem for many that has such a simple fix.

Thank you, dj_paige. Interesting comments about the graphics card. Checking Adobe, while my card is not on the "suggested" list, it does seem to meet DirectX and OpenGL specs. Direct X is 12, OpenGL is 4.6 (from specs below). Adobe says that other graphics cards may work, but they don't have time to test. So, saying the card is not supported may be a bit extreme. Also, when I reinstalled LR Classic CC, the GPU acceleration feature was not disabled. The documentation says that LR will disable if the graphics board does not meet spec. I did not think that getting a larger monitor may affect graphics card performance. But, the documentation implies I may need a beefier card now. I could disable the User Graphics Processor and see what happens. I should add further information to my first post. 1. I started noticing performance issues with the first update of LR Classic CC. It actually seemed to work fine at it's initial release. i actually thought that it did work faster, although I never timed it. When I noticed the performance issues, I completely uninstalled LR, deleted any presets, rebooted and then reinstalled. Unfortunately, that did not fix the problem. 2. RAW file size. Typically, I am processing Nikon RAW files from a D-750 or a D-610. Both are 24 megapixel cameras.Maybe one could expect some slower response with large files. However, recently I went back and processed some Nikon D300 RAW files, which are only 12 megapixels. I have never experienced any performance issues with those files on this computer. Adobe Photoshop is not experiencing I did notice that my standard previews were set to 1440. I just changed monitors a few months ago, and I neglected to reset the Library settings. I have reset the standard preview size to 2880 pixels to see if that makes a difference. So, I will retest and see if rebuilding the previews improves the situation. I do find it hard to believe that this is the root of my problems, but stranger things have happened.

You are no help at all, and i don't know how you came up with that conclusion. There are lots of posts about performance problems with LR Classic CC, not just mine. Timing issues are not related to skill, experience, Anyway, I will add more information today. if you do not have any substantive information to add, please do not reply.

Running Lightroom Classic CC in a Windows Environment with an i7 and 32 GB RAM is running so slow that i am seriously being hampered in my workflow. While this is not the latest i7, LR should perform better than it is. I also have SSD for main drive and for scratch disk. Theoretically, things should be better. Since the conversion to LR CC Classic, I can no longer get my work done. I can wait seconds to see sliders react. Editing a mask is painfully slow. The lag time in unbelievable. This shouldn't be that way. Also, as i continue to process photos, LR gets slower and slower. It's behaving as if there is a memory leak. In the past I've been unhappy with LR performance, but now that LR is supposed to be faster, I'm finding just the opposite is occurring. Not only am I unhappy, I am becoming very frustrated. Lots of little niggling things occur. Switching to the next image or zooming in, even with 1-to-1 previews created, takes many seconds, The image quality looks like it's progressively being built, kind of like a jpegs did when internet connections were real slow. The image quality gets better over 5-10 seconds. Also, sometimes, all too often, the screen goes black for a few seconds, or bright yellow polygons appear. It may be a nice light show, but what's really going on. When cropping, the previous image I was working on gets displayed for a few seconds before the one I'm working on comes back. I'm sure I could come up with other problems, but it's getting late. Lightroom Classic CC is seriously flawed and is so slow that I am considering giving up the boat, and I've been with LR since it was first released. I will hate to do this, but I do have to get work done.

I have asked for this feature improvement for years. How hard would it bee to provide a way to lock down the panels. Yes, it is too easy to cause the entire panel to disappear when trying to move the slider just to the left of the "minimize carrot?" When I am rapidly editing images, using my Wacom tablet, I spend more time bringing back the entire adjustment panel when it disappears. After all, you can choose which segments of the panel are minimized or not, why not enable the ability to lock the panel from disappearing accidentally. This should be so easy. Again, as others have stated, why hasn't this been corrected?
